FULL-TIME: Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 Borussia Dortmund
Leverkusen secure a crucial win in the context of the Bundesliga title race that sends them second in the league and 4 points behind Bayern Munich. They could have been more clinical to put the game beyond doubt earlier, but a win's a win and after last week's blip against Union Berlin they are back to winning ways. Dortmund, however, appeared dysfunctional and lacking any clear identity.
Has Delaney got away with that?! He pulls Schick down and it looks to be inside the box, but a free-kick is instead given. Not sure if VAR checked it, but that really looks like a penalty to me.
The resulting free-kick from Demirbay isn't too far away and curls just wide of the goal.
Bailey drops his shoulder and draws a foul from Hummels, who gets revenge for Bailey's challenge on him earlier and a yellow card to go with it.
Dortmund make their 3rd change and it's an attacking one. Steffen Tigges, who has been prolific for their second team, replaces Reus on the field.
16 year-old Youssoufa Moukokou replaces Bellingham, who's only a year older. So much young talent in this match! Could this be a last roll of the dice from Terzic?
GOOOAAAAALLLL!!! Has Wirtz won it for Leverkusen?! That's a classic counter attack from them, which starts with a long pass from Tapsoba that Meunier fails to control. Diaby and Schick link up well on the left before passing it across to Wirtz who's wide open with the goal at his mercy and makes it 2-1 with an emphatic finish.
Frustration starting to show now as Diaby is booked for a challenge on Haaland.
SAVED!! Yet another chance for Diaby who's been a threat all game after his opening goal. Burki gets low quickly to make a great save though.
USA international Gio Reyna is substituted on for Sancho, who has had a lacklustre evening.
Bailey given a yellow card for a foul on Hummels. Perhaps a bit harsh considering it was something of a 50/50, with both players coming off worse for it.
SO CLOSE!! How on earth did Sancho not score?! He somehow slices a shot wide despite being unmarked in the middle of the box after receiving a great pass from Reus.
Kerim Demirbay comes on for Aranguiz in midfield.
Double substitution for Leverkusen as they try to get back on top. The first of the two sees Schick replace Alario up top.
GOOOAAAALLL!!! Dortmund equalise with a great strike from Brandt! He curls one in from outside of the box and Leverkusen are punished for being sloppy with their passing out of defence. Hradecky should've done better though between the sticks. He did get a hand to it after all.
Lovely through ball to Haaland, who initially holds off Tapsoba, but the defender recovers to block his shot and it's out for a corner.
Amiri tries to put Bailey through on goal, but a coming together between Akanji and the Jamaican winger put a stop to that opportunity.
Daley Sinkgraven comes for Wendell, who appears to have a slight injury. A like-for-like substitution.
Great stat that's testament to Burki's performance tonight!
CHANCE!! Sancho had been quiet all game up until now! The English winger does a little one-two with his compatriot Bellingham before having a good shot blocked.
CLOSE!! Finally a decent chance for Dortmund. Bellingham slots the ball through to Reus, who tries and fails to go round the 'keeper then has a short cross-goal pass cleared to Bellingham. However, the young midfielder fires well over the bar.
Diaby wins the ball and makes a lung-busting run from his own half, beating three Dortmund players in the process. He then plays a simple pass to Bailey, who cuts inside on his weaker right foot and has a wayward shot on goal.
Brandt turns into space, ignores Sancho's calls for the ball and has a pop but it's wasteful really.
Bailey picks up where he left off as he drifts past two players to reach the byline and rifles a low cross in the box! It's cleared away by the Dortmund defence though.
No changes for either side as the match restarts for the second half!
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Leverkusen vs Dortmund matches are often high scoring encounters, with Leverkusen running out 4-0 winners last February being an example of that. Meanwhile in 2019, Dortmund won both games - 3-2 and 4-0.
Overall though, in their past 28 matches, Dortmund have won 14 times, Leverkusen have won 7 and they have drawn 7 too.
Lots of very strong criticism of Dortmund on social media at the moment. Previous manager Lucien Favre left the club in mid-December and results have hardly improved under Terzic, who has the job on an interim basis until the end of the season. Where did it all go wrong? And can they salvage something from this season?
Burki starred for Dortmund in the first half, but for how long can he keep the goals out?
HALF-TIME: Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 Borussia Dortmund
That's it for the half! 1-0 really flatters Dortmund to be completely honest. They have had the occasional chance but Leverkusen have been all over them, with Diaby's skill and dynamism going forward combined with the passing of Bailey and Wirtz. Will be interesting to see what kind of reaction Terzic manages to get from his Dortmund side after the break, if any at all.
SAVED AGAIN!!! Alario powers a low header towards goal and Burki keeps Dortmund in this game yet again with a fantastic save! Surely these missed chances will come back to haunt Leverkusen?
GREAT SAVE FROM BURKI!! Diaby wins the ball off Guerreiro, plays a quick one-two with Alario, then fires a curling effort from range that forces Burki into a brilliant diving save! Diaby is looking near-unstopppable tonight.
Hummels in particular has had a torrid game so far in the Dortmund defence.
Wirtz is only 17 yet has established himself as a regular starter for Peter Bosz's side! Many in Germany believe him to be better than the recently departed Kai Havertz.
It's four on three for Leverkusen on the counter attack but Wirtz's pass is a tad behind Alario, so Dortmund take advantage of this fumble to get defenders back.
Reus finds Haaland but the Norwegian striker's shot is slightly wide.
CHANCE!! Diaby goes close again yet again and it really should be 2-0! The French winger dribbles past Guerreiro then continues on past Hummels despite the centre-back trying to drag him down and has a shot on goal that's initially spilled by Burki. Alario is fuming though, as he believes Diaby should've squared it to him!
CHANCE!! Great skill from Bailey as he bamboozles the Dortmund defenders just inside the box before dinking the ball to Diaby. His 21 year-old teammate attempts a spectacular volley but it's blocked and goes out for a corner.
Leverkusen have constantly been brilliant in attack so far. Need to make this dominance count further.
Slick passing by Dortmund but Brandt's pass into the middle of the box is sloppy and Leverkusen clear.
CHANCE!! Diaby almost gets a second but his shot's saved by Burki. Alario then pounces on the rebound, which is blocked by Meunier. You get the feeling this game has goals in it!
CHANCE!! Meunier strikes and Haaland is so close to getting a little touch on it that would've levelled things for Dortmund! Perhaps Dortmund's best chance of the game so far.
Dortmund have been a bit overwhelmed by Leverkusen so far, who not only have superior possession but have also been pressing with lots of intensity.
Bailey produces another great passes similar to his assist, this time in search of Alario, but there's just a little bit too much on it and Burki claims it easily.
GOOOAAAAALLLL!!! Fantastic ball from deep from Bailey to Diaby, who makes a run beyond the defence to meet it and controls the ball with a brilliant touch before striking past Burki to make it 1-0.
Brandt finds Reus in space and he benefits from Wendell falling over but his eventual shot is tame and off-balance.
SAVED!! Early chance for Leverkusen as Wirtz tries to curl one in, but Burki keeps it out and his defence clears the ball away.
KICK-OFF: The match gets underway!
Yesterday marked one year since Haaland's Dortmund debut in which he incredibly scored a 23-minute hattrick.
He hasn't stopped scoring goals since!
Reports in Germany today have been talking of Leicester winger Damari Gray making the switch to Leverkusen, following in the footsteps of many other British players who have moved to play in the Bundesliga in recent years.
Would it be a good move for the 24 year-old?
DORTMUND TEAM NEWS
Caretaker manager Edin Terzic makes just two changes to the team who drew 1-1 with Mainz last Saturday.
It looks to be a 4-2-3-1, as Thomas Delaney partners Jude Bellingham in midfield instead of Emre Can and Manuel Akanji joins Mats Hummels at centre back in place of Dan-Axel Zagadou.
LEVERKUSEN TEAM NEWS
Peter Bosz makes 5 changes to the XI that started last Friday's away loss to Union Berlin.
Bender replaces Dragovic at right-back and Wendell comes in for Sinkgraven on the opposite side. In midfield Aranguiz and Wirtz play instead of Baumgartlinger and Demirbay, while Alario is chosen to lead the line over Schick.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah makes the matchday squad for the first time after signing from Manchester United a few days ago.
