Juventus have signed French defender Jonathan Zebina from Serie A rivals AS Roma on a five-year contract, the Turin club said on Wednesday. Zebina was available on a free transfer after his contract with Roma ran out and he had attracted the attention of a number of Serie A clubs.
The 25-year-old, who can play at centre half or fullback, has been with Roma for the past four seasons.
The France international moved to Italy in 1998 when he signed for Sardinian club Cagliari.
He has scored just one goal in 136 appearances, that solitary strike coming against Juventus in a 2-2 draw in September.
Zebina is the first signing made by Juventus during the close season.
The 27-times Italian champions have yet to appoint a replacement for coach Marcello Lippi who left the club at the end of the season.
