January signing Cenk Tosun is confident he can become the striker Everton need as they strive to end their trophy drought.
The Turkey international made back-to-back starts against Tottenham and West Brom immediately after making his £27million move from Besiktas, but he has been an unused substitute in two of the club’s last three matches.
Manager Sam Allardyce has admitted it was something of a risk bringing in the 26-year-old in mid-season but, after a training camp in Dubai, Tosun believes he can step up in the long term.
“I want to be a player that can help Everton to achieve what we want to achieve as a club. I am working hard to be that player,” he told evertonfc.com.
“In the long term I want to win some silverware in my career at Everton.
“The first few weeks were difficult maybe for my body and the adjustment but I can feel already that I’m adapting and I’m more comfortable now.
“Perhaps this season it will be tough to achieve the goals we would set out for ourselves because the first part of the season didn’t really go to plan.
“But we have turned things around and are only two points back from seventh position, so we have given ourselves a chance.”
Everton’s last trophy was claimed in 1995 when they beat Manchester United at Wembley to win the FA Cup.
