Well, what about that! Wolfsburg didn't just win, didn't just win well, but won easily. Madrid simply couldn't get going in midfield, and as such, couldn't get going up-front. They created almost nothing, and will fear Wolfsburg's ability to break decisively. The return will be an absolute jazzer.
Thanks for reading - night-night.

Wolfsburg are doing this easily!

And still Wolfsburg look the likelier! Kruse finds space on the left, cuts inside, and thunks a right-footer that Navas does well to shovel wide for a welcome corner.

Wolfsburg are allowing time to elapse now, and what a feeling that must be. Not sure Nas or Bob Marley would quite agree, what with it being illmatic and unstoppable, but they're not always right.
85'
Schurrle, who's had a good game, is replaced by Kruse.
84'
Madrid don't know whether to have a wee or a haircut.

The Volkswagen Arena is absolutely bouncing - and it's a lesson in how to build a new ground. As opposed to, say, Wembley and Emirates, it's square and steep, not round and shallow, so even though the stands are a bit far from the pitch, you still feel like you're at a game.

A fan runs around on the pitch for a few seconds until he jogs into the arms of some less-than-sympathetic stewards. Do they have drunk tanks in Germany?
81'
Kroos curls in a corner from the right, and the ref makes them retake it because of some bother between the grappling players. For a moment it looks like a penalty, but it isn't. So there is that.
73'
A wonderfully clever and weighted pass from Isco finds Ronaldo in the box - it's a great run too, perfectly timed - and, from the right of the box, he can't quite wrap body and foot around the ball, sending it skewing across the six-yard box rather than howitzing into the far corner.
73'
Madrid have barely hinted at a recovery.

Handbags, lovely handbags. Marcelo flicks a leg up at Arnold, David Beckham-style, and when Arnold reacts by shoving forehead into sternum, there's a gathering of pleasing rancour. Sadly, the ref is into things quickly, and both protagonists are booked.

Madrid waste the resultant corner and Wolfsburg break, Henrique on the left slotting another super pass across the face of the box for Schurrle. He might shoot first-time but instead allows himself a touch, firing just over from 20 yards, right of centre.
67'
Dante takes one in the dress circle and there's a pause while he gathers himself. In the meantime, Robbie Savage sort of suggests that only professional footballers know how such a thing feels, a novel riff on "if you've ever played the game".
64'
Guilavogui slips Schurrle through the middle and he's almost in - but Ramos somehow retains feet and composure, nipping in to tackle when the temptation to launch into reckless assault was almost making him rattle.
64'
Modric, who has done very little, is replaced by Isco.
