That's full time. United make it four wins out four, and they are likely already qualified for the knockout round. Poor old Mile Svilar lost it for the away side, but this time he wasn't to blame for the mistake.
There will be three minutes of added time.
Blind and Douglas both stretch for a ball, and Douglas's ribs thump into Blind's knee. A sore one for both, and they limp off for treatment.
Salvio gets easily past Blind on the left, he slides to send in a cross, and Mkhitaryan turns it behind rather than take any risk at the back post.
Blind leaves the ball for Rashford on the left. He cuts onto his right, and fires a surprising shot from a tight angle, driving it wide of goal.
Benfica win a corner on the left, and Lukaku thunders it down to Rashford, but the striker can't wriggle free of Salvio on the halfway line.
- Goal by penaltyDaley BlindManchester United
GOAL! Manchester United 2-0 Benfica. Blind scores - He fires a penalty down the middle of the goal, Svilar dives to his left, and that is it, settled.
Rashford sprints down the left, holding off defenders as he goes. Foolishly, Samaris nudges him over the in the box and concedes a clear penalty.
- OffAnthony MartialManchester United
- OnMarcus RashfordManchester United
Rashford on for Martial.
- OffRaúl JiménezBenfica
- OnHaris SeferovicBenfica
Seferovic on for Benfica.
A fluid passing move from United sees McTominay dart into the box and fire in a shot from a tight angle, but it's blocked quickly and away.
Lukaku plays a one-two with Mkhitaryan as he runs into the box, but he shoots straight at the oncoming 'keeper, and is offside anyway.
- Yellow cardEduardo SalvioBenfica
Salvio is booked for pulling back Mkhitaryan. Just 20 or so minutes left.
- OffJuan MataManchester United
- OnAnder HerreraManchester United
Herrera is on to kick people, replacing Mata.
Bailly rolls a pass to Smalling, and Raul can steal in to take it off the two of them. He skips towards goal, and a last-second intervention from Smalling sends the shot crashing against the post and wide.
- OffÁlex GrimaldoBenfica
Eliseu is coming on for Grimaldo.
Goncalves skips past Smalling with a nutmeg, drives into space and De Gea dives to his right to tip away a strong, low shot.
A loose pass is seized on by Mata in space, in the left hand corner of the pitch, and he whips in a cross towards Lukaku which is well cut out and away by Benfica.
Martial then runs into the box, turns onto his right, touches it to the byline and out of play. It was a mistake, and a frustrating one, so Lukaku tries to gee him up.
Martial tries to flick a ball inside, but it bounces off a defender to his advantage down the line. Martial runs onto it, in space, and he flicks a left-foot volleyed cross behind the goal.
Lukaku gets tripped by Dias just before the halfway line. It's his job to be booted about today, apparently.
Darmian sends in a low cross that's blocked at the near post, and Mata reaches it first to volley well over the bar.
United seem happy enough just keeping in the ball now. If only they could do that for longer than a few seconds at a time.
- 2nd Half
On we go. Mkhitaryan is on for United as Lingard doesn't come back on.
- End of 1st Half
That's half time. United were never that troubled, but neither were they any good. They'll take it. Mourinho will ready the crockery to launch at the walls.
Lukaku drives towards goal after seizing on a poor back pass, and he sends a shot at Svilar, bouncing off him for a corner.
- Own-goalMile SvilarBenfica
GOAL! Manchester United 1-0 Benfica. Life's Essential Futility scores - Matic receives the ball in space, and from 30 yards out he blasts a shot past Svilar, it hits the post and bounces back off his noggin and back into the goal.
Lukaku slides in a pass for Martial on the left, and he drills a shot over from a tight angle. A rising shot never works from there, unless you're Robbie Fowler.
Lingard has a shot deflected well wide, and Svilar can run out to claim it under no pressure.
Martial hits the sprint button and scythes through the box, jinks past Dias and overruns it at the touchline. He's getting closer since that first miss.
Benfica can break down the right, but McTominay brings the ball away to end the danger. Benfica can slice through United whenever they get the ball in their own half, it feels like.
An excellent flowing move from United ends with Lukaku heading the ball down to Mata just inside the box, and his volley is deflected back against him off a defender to go wide of the goal.
Well done, Mile!
Mata finds Martial on the left, who flights in a great cross for Lukaku at the back post, and he heads just over the bar.
Mata finds Matic under pressure, who sets Lingard free down the middle. He slides a pass forward for Lukaku, whose shot is drilled to the near post and palmed away by Svilar.
Martial almost beats the same man 17 times in the same run, but is tackled and United fall back to catch up with Benfica's counter-attack from left to right.
Martial flicks on neatly for Blind on the left, who hoofs the ball out of play, over the goal.
- Yellow cardJesse LingardManchester United
Benfica win a throw-in high up on the right hand side. Lingard has been booked for... something?
- Yellow cardEric BaillyManchester United
Grimaldo is tripped as he attempts to break down the left wing from deep, and he gets himself a booking.
It seems that Lingard is OK to recover. Mkhitaryan is being sent on a job up and down the pitch.
Lingard has gone down, holding his side. It seems unlikely he'll be able to keep going, and Rashford is now warming up. It may actually be a hamstring, it's not clear.
Pizzi drills a shot from the edge of the box, and from a deflection it runs into the box and the offside flag goes up.
Goncalves cuts in from the left. He finds space for a shot and leathers a curling effort towards the top corner, and De Gea palms it away with a sprightly leap.
SAVED! Martial strolls to the spot kick and drills a low shot towards the corner that Svilar saves brilliantly. From the corner, Smalling meets it and glances wide of the post.
PENALTY! Mata finds Martial in the box, who tricks Douglas and two other defenders, and as Douglas trips Martial, he also handballs it as he falls to the ground.
And Bailly has to rush into block a cross from the left of the box. Pizzi then gets introduced to the advertising boards by Bailly with a rough old challenge. It looked like a foul, honestly.
United have been slow to start...
Samaris sends a low shot wide of the near post, and he is a late addition to the first team, replacing Felipe Augusto.
Martial lifts a shot over the wall from the free kick, 25 yards or so out, and it loops a way over the bar.
- Yellow cardRúben DiasBenfica
Dias is booked for a foul, sliding in from behind on Lukaku as he strode towards the box.
Darmian goes in from behind on Pizzi to stop a counter-attack in Benfica's own half. It's taken short.
United calmly playing the ball about in defence.
- 1st Half
TOOT! Off we go.
United are under a little bit of a cloud here. The draw against Liverpool, the loss to Huddersfield and the limited amount of ambition against Spurs, followed by some zesty Mourinho antics in the press and United's programme notes have set them up for more pressure than is really necessary
Mourinho has looked at the group, with nine points from three games, and decided that's probably enough to take a rest ahead of the match against Chelsea at the weekend. It's not a weak team, but Scott McTominay gets a stsart in midfield alongside Nemanja Matic.
Rui Vitoria backed Mile Svilar, who made a mistake in the first match against United to lose the tie: "'Svilar had a trial by fire - it was his first game in the Champions League. He's only 18, a very young age. But we only talk about him being 18 because his identification card says that. He actually shows maturity above his actual age."
Jose Mourinho had some praise for Romelu Lukaku: "What he does for the team is fantastic and to play football for a striker is not just about scoring goals. I think Romelu is one of the players who should be untouchable in terms of respect from everyone."
