Sensationally, Real Madrid have won a third straight Champions League title, their fourth in the last five years. Zidane has achieved astonishing success since his appointment as manager three seasons ago. Liverpool were on top for much of the first half, but it wasn't to be. The whole contest swung on the injury to Salah. And Bale's wondergoal.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Real Madrid 3-1 Liverpool. REAL MADRID HAVE WON THE 2017/18 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!
This is now a formality for Real Madrid. They have won their third successive Champions League title, their fourth in the past five years. Their dominance of Europe is in no doubt.
Three minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
Benzema has come in for a lot of criticism from many of his own fans this season, but he Frenchman more than played his part for Real Madrid this evening. Fantastic display from the Frenchman.
- OffKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
- OnMarco AsensioReal Madrid
Asensio comes on for Benzema. Yet more pace to expose Liverpool at the back.
Liverpool need an almighty effort to find a way back into this match in the final few minutes. It has been done before. Look at Man Utd in Barcelona, but it might be too late.
BALE WAS CLEAN THROUGH! That could have been the hat trick for the Welsh winger. He was clean through, although Van Dijk puts him under pressure late on in the run. Ronaldo was free as the shot is smothered.
Well, it's been said all season - Liverpool need a new goalkeeper. It's been a problem for them for a long time and in the cold light of day Karius has cost his team this Champions League final. Ouch.
- GoalGareth BaleReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 3 (83 mins - Gareth Bale) Liverpool 1. Another howler from Karius! There are no excuses for the Liverpool goalkeeper. Bale takes aim from distance, there was some movement on it, but Karius allows it to slip through his fingers.
- Yellow cardSadio ManéLiverpool
Mane is shown a yellow card for a late tackle on Ramos. Maybe a little bit harsh.
BENZEMA STRIKE! That was close to being a third for Real Madrid. The French striker met a diagonal pass from Modric on the full volley, but Karius makes the save at his near post.
Klopp is hamstrung by the lack of options he has on the bench. While Real Madrid have players like Bale to call upon, Liverpool don't have anyone like that. Injuries have it them.
Kroos has been exceptional in the centre of the pitch for Real Madrid. The German can often be overlooked, such is his nature, but he's so important to the way his team plays.
This is where Liverpool could be picked off. Real Madrid now have Bale and Ronaldo on the pitch. They have plenty of pace on the counter attack and that could prove to be a factor.
Liverpool have the ball in the opposition half and are now probing for a way through. Real Madrid might not be tempted to sit back and soak up pressure while hitting out on the counter.
BIG RONALDO CHANCE! That could, and perhaps shoud, have been the game. Ronaldo was through, he took down the pass, he had time, but Robertson makes a crucial sliding challenge to deny him.
PENALTY CLAIM! The Liverpool players feel that they should have been awarded a spot kick for a handball from Casemiro. But the officials decide that the Brazilian's arm was by his side.
Liverpool have 20 minutes left to find a way back into this match and on the basis of that last effort from Mane, they have a chance. But they need to keep up the intensity of their play.
MANE OFF THE POST! The Liverpool winger is inches away from restoring parity for the second time! He takes aim with his left foot from the edge of the box, but it smashes off the base of the post.
Surely Klopp will make a change to his team soon? The German doesn't have many options on the bench, but Liverpool need some fresh legs. They are starting to look tired.
Once again, Real Madrid are in control of this game now. They have taken a grip of things after conceding that equaliser. Liverpool are up against it to get back in this match.
This final has really caught light at the start of the second half. What a goal from Bale. This is a player who has been linked with an exit from Real Madrid and he's just come up with a real moment of magic.
- GoalGareth BaleReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 2 (64 mins - Gareth Bale) Liverpool 1. INCREDIBLE! What a sensational goal from Bale! Remember Ronaldo's overhead kick against Juventus? Bale has just repeated it! He finds the top corner of the net with a stunning effort! Wow.
- OffIscoReal Madrid
- OnGareth BaleReal Madrid
Indeed, here's the change for Real Madrid, with Bale coming on to replace Isco.
KARIUS SAVE! Isco brings down a cross inside the box with an excellent touch, turns and gets a shot away on goal. It might have been going wide, but Karius tips it wide of the post.
We could be about to see a change for Real Madrid here. Bale is getting ready down on the touchline. Who will the Welsh winger come on for? Isco hasn't been at the races so far.
This is more like the game we were expecting before kick off. This is like the opening 10 minutes again. Both teams are attacking at every opportunity. Liverpool pressing high up the pitch.
All of a sudden, Liverpool have got their verve back. The equalising goal came against the run of play, but they have been rejuvenated by Mane's flicked finish a few moments ago.
Well, this match has exploded into life at the start of the second half. Liverpool looked to be a beaten team, in all honesty, after the mistake from Karius and the Salah injury. Game on again.
- GoalSadio ManéLiverpool
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 1 Liverpool 1 (55 mins - Sadio Mane). Liverpool have equalised! Just as it looked like this game was getting away from them, Mane gets on the end of a Lovren knock-down from a corner kick to flick a finish over Navas in the Real Madrid goal.
FLICKED AWAY! That was close to being a big chance for Firmno at the back post. The cross from Robertson was a good one, but Varane got the top of his head of the delivery.
Liverpool need to collect themselves here. The past 25 minutes of this match have them rocking. They need to find some composure and come again at Real Madrid. This is getting away from them.
I can't quite believe what has just happened. I did Benzema a disservice. He knew exactly what he was doing. He stuck out a leg to block Karius' throw out and the ball dribbled in.
- GoalKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 1 (50 mins - Karim Benzema) Liverpool 0. What has just happened?! Real Madrid have the lead and it's a blunder from Karius! He appeared to roll it into the feet of Benzema, who knew nothing about it! What a MASSIVE mistake!
OFF THE CROSSBAR! Real Madrid should be 1-0 up! Lallana's tackle on the edge of the box falls to Isco, who was completely free 12 yards out. He lifts his shot over Karius, but hits the bar!
Liverpool needed the half time break. Real Madrid were second best for much of the first half, but they ended the 45 minutes on top. Klopp and his players needed to regroup.
No changes for either team at the break, which isn't surprising given that both sides have used one sub a piece after the injuries to Salah and Carvajal. A compelling second half in store.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way in Kiev! It's still 0-0 between Real Madrid and Liverpool.
What did you make of the first half of the Champions League final? How big a blow is the injury to Salah? Are Real Madrid now the favourites having weathered the storm? Tweet me!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Real Madrid 0-0 Liverpool. An entertaining first half in Kiev, but still waiting for the first goal. Salah has had to go off injured, while Benzema had a goal chalked off. More to come.
Liverpool need this half time break. Real Madrid are really imposing themselves on this match now. Klopp needs to get his players into the dressing room to help them regroup.
SIDE NETTING! The ball from Benzema from deep was inch perfect, with the Real Madrid right back meeting it on the full volley. But his effort could only find the side netting.
Three minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the first half.
That was a big moment in this match. Ronaldo probably should have found the net for Real Madrid. He climbed higher than anyone else in the box and directed a strong header on goal.
REAL MADRID GOAL CHALKED OFF! Benzema has the ball in the back of the net, but it's ruled out for offside! Ronaldo's header draws a huge save from Karius, but the rebound is chalked off.
These two teams have so much attacking quality, they have both produced half chances, but we have yet to see any sort of clear goalscoring chance yet. Which is a little weird.
It's Real Madrid who are now on top at the end of the first half. The injury to Salah has changed the dynamic of the match. Liverpool need the half time whistle to regroup as a unit.
Here's the thing - Liverpool were finding space in behind Carvajal to expose. But Nacho is much more defensive in style. He doesn't get forward in the same way. So might that actually benefit Real?
- OffDani CarvajalReal Madrid
- OnNachoReal Madrid
Carvajal is taken off and Nacho comes on to replace him at right back.
We're taking a break as Carvajal receives some treatment. The stretcher is being brought on for the Real Madrid right back. Zidane is going to have to make a change here.
NOW CARVAJAL IS DOWN! The Real Madrid right back also looks to be in real trouble here. Carvajal is in tears, so has he suffered a game-ending injury as well? Worry for Real.
Indeed, Real Madrid are now getting numbers forward. Ronaldo and Benzema bundled into the box together, with the latter getting a shot away. But it was tame and Liveprool block.
So how will this change the dynamic of the game? Will Real Madrid use this as a catalyst? Because so far the double defending champions have been well below par. Second best.
- OffMohamed SalahLiverpool
- OnAdam LallanaLiverpool
Salah walks down the tunnel and he will be replaced by Lallana. Hard not to feel sorry for the Egyptian. He's in floods of tears.
SALAH COMING OFF! The Egyptian has hit the ground again and is now in tears. Salah is going to have to come off here. Liverpool's main man has suffered a shoulder injury and will be withdrawn.
It looks like Salah is going to be able to carry on here. He is still in some distress. For a moment, it looked like a real problem for Liverpool, but he's now back on his feet about to come back on.
SALAH DOWN! This is a concern for Liverpool. Ramos landed on Salah after a tackle and the Egyptian is holding his shoulder. This could be a game-changing moment right here.
Looking at that last chance for Liverpool, the save from Navas was incredible. It went through the legs of a Real Madrid defender and yet he still managed to make the save.
BIG LIVERPOOL CHANCE! Firmino takes aim inside the box, with Ramos making the massive block! It then falls to Alexander-Arnold, who pings one. Navas makes the diving save and holds on to it.
It's the Premier League side who are in control. Many expected Liverpool to play on the counter attack, but the reality in this first half is that they are the ones dominating the possession.
Real Madrid look very shaky at the back. Of course, that's not uncommon for them, but the difference is that their play in the final third has also been disjointed so far. Very poor.
NAVAS GETS AWAY WITH ONE! Van Dijk got up above the Costa Rican goalkeeper from a corner kick, but he heads over. Navas was so lost that he actually grabbed the centre back rather than the ball!
STRAIGHT OUT OF PLAY! Complete lapse in concentration from Carvajal. I think he was trying to find Ramos with a simple pass. He ended up playing it out for a corner kick. Whoops!
Liverpool have so many runners whenever they get the ball going forward. Real Madrid still don't seem to have grasped that Salah, Mane and Firmino are playing as a front three.
RONALDO OVER! The Real Madrid number seven gets in behind the Liverpool defence, driving down the right channel. He might have passed, but Ronaldo lashes over at the near post.
The only thing missing from this strong start by Liverpool is an opening goal. Real Madrid just can't get going at the moment. They look lethargic. Their passing is very disjointed.
Ronaldo has spent the opening exchanges of the match out on the left hand side. The Portuguese wants to pick up the ball and cut inside off the wing. No chance to do that so far, though.
Real Madrid are now taking the chance to slow down the game and take control of the ball for a spell. Liverpool have been well on top in the opening 10 minutes. Taking a breather.
MARCELO SHOT WIDE! Real Madrid produce their first real effort on goal of the match. Marcelo turns back on his marker, creating space for the shot from 25 yards out, but he drags well wide.
Benzema has hardly touched the ball in the opening 10 minutes of the match. Real Madrid are actually struggling to get out of their own half at the moment. Pegged back by Liverpool.
Liverpool are pressing high up the pitch, as they tend to do, and that is giving Real Madrid some real problems at the moment. The Spanish side are toiling in building from the back.
ALMOST IN! Liverpool were just yards away from being in behind the Real Madrid defence. Varane looked to have been beaten by a pass, but he made the challenge. Navas was in the mix as well.
Freekick wasted by Liverpool. They won a set piece right on the edge of the Real Madrid penalty box. The pass was played short to Salah, but Modric was out quickly to charge down his shot.
This already looks to be a very open game. Both teams are looking to attack at the earliest opportunity. This bodes well for the neutral. Not for fans of Real and Liverpool, though.
ISCO OFFSIDE! Just for a moment it looked like Real Madrid might be through, with Modric clipping a ball over the top for Isco, who was free. Karius made the punching clearance, but the flag was up.
Live scenes in the Spanish capital...
Liverpool are on the front foot from the first whistle, with Mane chasing a through ball from Salah. Varane comes across to make the crucial challenge, though. Bright start.

We're under way in Kiev! It's Real Madrid against Liverpool in the final of the Champions League!
Allez, Allez, Allez!
Dua Lipa is out on the pitch in Kiev serenading all inside the stadium with a chart hit. Because allowing the fans to sing and chant before the biggest game of the season would have been so bad...
One of the main differences between the two teams is surely in the depth they have. Klopp has just pointed out that Real Madrid have many more options than Liverpool do tonight.
Carvajal looked to pick up a knock in the warm up. However, the right back seems to be training again. Liverpool will be looking to get at him. This could be good news for the Reds.
Interesting that Zidane has opted for a diamond this evening. Against Juventus, that system didn't really work. It almost saw Real Madrid knocked out. Liverpool can exploit weaknesses in this.
Liverpool line up pretty much as expected. There are places in the midfield for Milner and Milner following the injuries to Can and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Will that hold them back?
For Real Madrid, this is the chance to win three successive Champions League titles, their fourth in the past five years. Zidane's side have made this competition their own in recent years.
Thousands of Liverpool fans have made the trip to Kiev for this match, even those without tickets. It's been a real pilgrimage from Merseyside to the Ukrainian capital for this one.
Looking for some pre-match reading? Our very own Marcus Foley has written this ahead of the match. It's on how this match up is one for the ages.
Indeed, the biggest headline from the team selections is that Bale has been left on the bench for Real Madrid. The Welshman has been in great scoring form of late. Very surprising.
TEAM NEWS: Real Madrid - Navas, Carvajal, Ramos, Varane, Marcelo, Casemiro, Kroos, Modric, Isco, Benzema, Ronaldo. /// Liverpool - Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Milner, Salah, Firmino, Mane.
So this is the one we have been waiting for. The culmination of the Champions League season. There are some team news reports coming in, but we'll wait until it's official. Early signs are that Bale DOESN'T start.
