David Silva nipped in to secure a late 2-1 victory for Premier League champions Manchester City at Hoffenheim.
An electric start to the game saw Ishak Belfodil open the scoring after just 44 seconds with a fine finish under Ederson.

City levelled seven minutes later when Silva played in Leroy Sane and the German's cutback found Sergio Aguero, who finished well.
However the real drama of the game came in the second-half when Sane got in behind the defence but went down, seemingly fouled by Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann.
City boss Pep Guardiola was fuming on the touchline but his mood changed in the final minutes when Silva stole the ball off a defender and fired home for a dramatic winner.

TALKING POINT

Should Leroy Sane have had a penalty? He got 20 minutes of stick from the home fans who seemed to feel that he dived, but initial impressions were that Oliver Baumann had certainly made contact with the City's player's legs rather than the ball.

8' GOAL! Equaliser for City as Sergio Aguero strikes! Silva passes to Sane, who squares it for Aguero to knock in as a matter of utmost simplicity.
33' CLOSE! Leroy Sane and David Silva are linking up beautifully, dancing around the Hoffenheim defence, and Aguero is fallling and stretching as he tries to get his foot to the final ball.
72' SO CLOSE! Quick feet from Baumann to get back on his line and gather Aguero's header from Bernardo Silva's cross.
73' NO PENALTY! Leroy Sane has his feet taken away by the gloves of Baumann, who...doesn't actually get a touch to the ball.
87' GOAL! What a powerful hit from David Silva, who does well to stay on his feet and lash it home from the left side of the box.

KEY STATS

  • Sergio Aguero is just the second player to score in five consecutive away Champions League appearances for an English team, after Ruud van Nistelrooy for Man Utd in 2003.
  • Ishak Belfodil's goal after 44 seconds is the quickest scored against an English team in the Champions League since Stephan El Shaarawy vs Chelsea in October 2017 (39 seconds).
