After two goals in the final four minutes secured a vital three points in Europe, Mourinho responded to persistent abuse from the Juve fans, aware of his history as a former manager of rivals Inter, by cupping his hand to his ear.
Juve defender Leonardo Bonucci came across to remonstrate with Mourinho – who defended his actions in his post-match press conference, saying “I didn't insult them, I just made a little thing."
However Scholes, a persistent critic of Mourinho this season, said the reaction was unnecessary.
"This is everywhere he goes. You need to win with a bit of class," Scholes said on BT Sport.
"Shake the manager’s hand, go over and clap your fans. I don't think there's any need for it but that's the way he is."
