Football news - Chris Sutton: 'Scandalous' Sergio Ramos deserves lengthy ban for 'thuggery'

Sergio Ramos has protested his innocence after his involvement in a controversial moment on Wednesday night which BT pundit Chris Sutton described as “thuggery”.
In the first half of Real Madrid’s 5-0 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League, Ramos left opponent Milan Havel with a bloody nose after throwing his elbow in his face when challenging for the ball.
Ramos went unpunished after the incident and later apologised to Havel, insisting he did not set out to hurt him, even if the nature of the challenge was inappropriate.
But speaking on BT’s highlights show, Sutton let rip at the Real Madrid captain – who was involved in two controversial moments in last season’s final when he injured Mohamed Salah and possibly gave Lorius Karius concussion.
"There's no word to describe it other than thuggery," said Sutton.
It's a scandalous challenge. It really is. It's just totally unnecessary. He throws his arm and he knows exactly what he's doing in this situation. There's no need. The game's 0-0. He has to be banned and banned for a long time. That is a disgusting challenge.
