So who does that first leg result benefit? You'd have to say that Barcelona, back at Camp Nou, will be the favourites to progress into the quarter finals, but Lyon had chances this evening and it's reasonable to expect that they will also have chances in the return leg. It was goalless, but it was an entertaining match.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Lyon 0-0 Barcelona
Into the wall! That was quite possibly Barcelona's last chance to find a winner here. Messi lined up the freekick 20 yards out, but the Lyon wall did its job. The clearance is made.
- Yellow cardNélson SemedoFC Barcelona
Semedo was shown a yellow card a few moments ago. Time is running out for Barcelona to find a winner.
Three minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
Messi shot, Suarez header! Is it going to be one of those nights for Barcelona? Messi sliced his shot and then Suarez couldn't direct the header on target at the back post. It came to him fast, in fairness.
What an effort! Messi rescued the ball at the byline and turned back to set up Busquets for the shot. The midfielder sent a side-footed strike towards goal, but Lopes tips over the bar.
- OffTanguy N'DombeleOlympique Lyonnais
- OnPape CheikhOlympique Lyonnais
Lyon take off Ndombele, who has been impressive, and he gets a good ovation from the home fans.
An away goal for Barcelona at this stage would be huge. Camp Nou is one of the most difficult places to visit in all of European football. However, 0-0 isn't a bad scoreline for Lyon.
PICTURE: This picture sums up Suarez's evening so far.
- OffSergi RobertoFC Barcelona
- OnArturo VidalFC Barcelona
Valverde makes another change and this time it's Roberto who comes off to be replaced by Vidal.
- Yellow cardSergi RobertoFC Barcelona
Roberto is the first Barcelona player to be shown a yellow card this evening.
Lyon may well look back at this as a missed opportunity. Barcelona look weary and short of ideas, yet the French side haven't been able to make the most of that. They've had chances.
Shot off target! That was some nice build up play from Barcelona in and around the box. Suarez set up Alba for the shot, but his strike flashes over the bar. That wasn't too far away.
Coutinho effort on goal! The Brazilian playmaker gets a powerful strike off on goal, but Lopes makes the acrobatic save. That might have been one for the cameras from the Lyon keeper.
- OffMartin TerrierOlympique Lyonnais
- OnMaxwell CornetOlympique Lyonnais
Cornet comes on for the final 13 minutes of the match. Not a bad player to bring off the bench.
Suarez couldn't connect! The Barcelona striker must have been just inches away from turning that low cross into the back of the Lyon net. Lopes gathers somewhat comfortably.
Might Lyon be content with a 0-0 draw in the first leg of this tie? That would put them in a good position ahead of the return leg at Camp Nou, where an away goal would have huge value.
Suarez still hasn't scored a goal in the Champions League this season. And we're still waiting for a goal in tonight's last 16 ties. It's still 0-0 between Liverpool and Bayern Munich as well!
SUAREZ... wide! That was the chance for Barcelona to take the lead, to find an away goal. Alba picked out Suarez, but from eight yards out the striker hooks his effort wide of the post.
- OffBertrand TraoréOlympique Lyonnais
- OnLucas TousartOlympique Lyonnais
Now it's Lyon's turn to make a change and it's Tousart who comes on for the home side.
That's a very strange decision from Valverde. Dembele was offering Barcelona pace and unpredictability. He was arguably their best player tonight, but he has been hooked off the pitch.
- OffOusmane DembéléFC Barcelona
- OnPhilippe CoutinhoFC Barcelona
Valverde makes his first change of the night and Coutinho comes on for Dembele.
Lopes gets down low! That was a good opportunity for Messi. He got the left-footed strike away on goal from a tight angle, but Lopes had his angles right and makes the diving save.
Roberto is bleeding! The midfielder-turned-full back got an elbow in the face there. It was accidental, but he is now bleeding from his mouth and will now need to be patched up.
Big chance for Suarez! It seemed to get stuck under the feet of the Barcelona striker. Messi might have wanted the pass, but Dubois makes the block to deny Suarez's toe poke.
Just too much! Dembele tried his best to dribble around Lenglet on the edge of the box. He gets past the Barcelona defender, but the touch was too heavy and Ter Stegen comes out.
Barcelona have tightened this game up in the second half. They were far too open in the first half and it seemed that Valverde recognised this. Tweaks were made to the Barca system.
That was a really poor freekick delivery from Depay. Lyon had players up from the back waiting for the ball into the middle, but the Dutchman gets it all wrong and the ball drifts long.
The supporters aren't happy with the referee. They are unhappy that Barcelona are getting away with so many fouls. They may have a case. Why isn't the referee showing yellows?
Denayer has enjoyed a good game so far. The Belgian defender has done a good job of keeping tabs on Dembele, Messi and Suarez. There aren't many tougher tasks in football.
Suarez is cutting a frustrated figure. However, it's when the Barcelona striker is in this state of mind that he is at his most dangerous. How many times have we seen him score in frustration?
Depay hasn't been at his best for Lyon this evening, but the Dutchman has the quality to pop up with a real moment of brilliance. Barcelona can't allow him much space in and around the box.
Strike from Memphis! That had to be close. Traore tries to take on Alba, but the tackle is made. The ball pops out to Depay, who takes the snapshot. But his effort bends away from the far post.
Messi has been subdued so far this evening. It should be noted that the Argentinean has been struggling with injury of late, so it's possible that he is still looking for full match fitness.
PICTURE: Terrier rues a missed opportunity.
Traore, Mendy and Terrier were the standout performers for Lyon in the opening 45 minutes. Were it not for Ter Stegen, Lyon surely would have taken the lead in the first half.
It looks like Valverde has asked his players to show more control in this second half. The first half was very open and so it seems that Barcelona might look to stem that from this point.
No changes made at the break. The first half was a very entertaining encounter, but we're still waiting on the deadlock to be broken. Will we see that in this second period of play?
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! It's still 0-0 between Lyon and Barcelona in this Champions League last 16 first leg.

- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Lyon 0-0 Barcelona. What a first half it has been. Lyon have held their own and have had chances to take the lead. Quite remarkable that we still haven't had a goal yet.
Big deflection! Denayer exhales. The Lyon centre back threw himself at a strike from Busquets. Lopes looked to be beaten, but the ball bounces just wide of the target. Yikes!
What a goal that would have been! Wonderful, wonderful one touch football from Lyon around the box. Terrier gets the shot away, but he leans over the effort and it flashes over the bar.
Just wide! Dembele very nearly caught out Lopes there. The Lyon goalkeeper wasn't expecting the shot from the French winger, but the ball flashes just wide of the near post. Close.
The match is now stretching towards the end of the first half. Will we see a breakthrough before the interval? Both teams have lacked that cutting edge in the final third of the pitch.
Barcelona didn't make the most of that opportunity. A poor pass from Ndombele gave them the chance to break. They had three attackers on the counter, but Suarez's pass was slack.
Some pre-match scenes ICYMI
Messi picks out Dembele! What a magnificent pass that was from the Barcelona number 10. However, Dembele's left-footed volley was poor and it bounces down into the ground and then high into the air.
This is the first time that both teams have taken a breather. This is the first time that the game has dropped in terms of its pace and intensity. It had to happen at some point.
PICTURE: Ter Stegen is Superman.
Lyon are on top at the moment. Of course, you can never count out Barcelona given the individual quality that they have, but it's the French side who are forcing the issue most right now.
- Yellow cardLeo DuboisOlympique Lyonnais
Dubois enters the book for a foul on Suarez. He's complaining that he barely touched the Barcelona striker.
Messi and Dembele combine on the break forward. The Frenchman is appealing that there was a handball from Denayer, but the referee decided that there was nothing in the incident.
Pique makes the tackle! This time Depay gets his pass through right, with Dembele played through. However, Pique comes across to make the challenge and deny the striker.
This match has been played at a great tempo so far. There have been very few lulls in play. Quite astonishing that there have been no goals. Such an entertaining affair up until now.
Depay might have done better with that. The Dutchman got on the ball 20 yards out, but he over hit his pass through to Traore. That was an opportunity for Lyon to get in behind Barca.
This is a good spell for the home side. They are finding space in between the lines of Barcelona's defence and midfield. Mendy is beginning to have a real influence on the match.
Roberto isn't happy. He believes that Mendy went down a bit too easily there in an attempt to win the freekick. The foul is given, but replays show there was a shove from Roberto.
It looks like Lyon have made a tactical change. Traore is now over on the left side, with Depay on the right, and that seems to have unsettled Barcelona for the moment. Working well.
It just feels like Barcelona are starting to take a grip of things in the centre of the pitch. Lyon are sitting deep for the moment, but their plan is surely to spring out on the counter when they win the ball back.
This has been an excellent start to this match. Both Lyon and Barcelona look vulnerable at the back, but have great quality in attack. The only surprise is that we haven't seen a goal yet.
PICTURE: Messi doing Messi things.
Dembele denied! Fantastic play from the Barcelona winger to beat Dubois, turning him inside out, but Lopes did enough to smother the low shot and keep the scoreline level at 0-0.
Messi usually scores them! Indeed, he should have at least found the target there. The cut back was made by Alba, but Messi curls his left-footed shot wide of the target. Not great.
Rakitic... not far wide! Just for a moment it appeared the Croatian's shot from the edge of the Lyon box was about to settle in the far corner of the Lyon net, but it flashes wide. Close.
Messi's shot is blocked! The Argentinean wins the ball back and drives towards goal. He takes the strike, but Denayer comes across to make the last gasp block to deny him. Solid.
Depay looks to be in the mood for Lyon tonight. The former Manchester United winger has really revived his career in France. This is a big chance for him to show what he can do.
Wild from Dembele! The Barcelona winger should have done better with that opportunity. He shifted the ball nicely on to his left foot on the edge of the box, but fires well over.
Barcelona can't afford to take Lyon lightly. The French side have already beaten Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain this season. They have real quality in the attacking third.
Lyon have come close to scoring twice now. They aren't going to stand off Barcelona. They want to score this evening. They want to take a lead to Camp Nou and give themselves a chance of going through.
What a save! Wow! Incredible save from Ter Stegen. Terrier lets rip from 20 yards out, his shot appeared to be heading for the back of the net, but the Barca keeper tipped it on to the crossbar.
This has been a very entertaining start to this match. There is plenty of space to exploit and both teams have the first though to attack whenever they receive the ball. A lot of fun, so far.
Ter Stegen is called upon! Auoar gets the shot away on the edge of the Barcelona penalty area, but the German goalkeeper was down quickly to push it around his post. Good effort.
Over the bar! Not one of Messi's best efforts. He lined up the freekick 20 yards out, but it was tame from the Barcelona number 10, who floats his shot over the target. Lops wasn't worried.
- Yellow cardHoussem AouarOlympique Lyonnais
An early yellow card shown to Auoar, who brings down Messi right on the edge of the Lyon penalty area.
Early chance! Well, that could have been a very early goal for Barcelona. Dembele was released in behind, but from a tight angle the French winger put his shot across the face and wide.
- 1st Half
The match is under way! It's Lyon against Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Okay, here we go. About to get started in Lyon. Kick off is just seconds away.
The two teams are out on the pitch, the Champions League anthem has been observed. Nobody sang along to it, Ronaldo-esque.
This has the potential to be one of the ties of the round. Lyon have the ability to give Barcelona real problems.
Not long until kick off at the OL Stadium now. Sounds like a great atmosphere. The home fans are up for this one.
Barcelona are expected to be one of the favourites to win this season's Champions League, but they have shown signs of weariness in recent weeks. Will that be a factor tonight?
Injury news! Mendy has taken a knock in the warm up. He appeared to collide with Marcelo and now seems to be limping. Might Lyon be forced into a late change to their lineup?
I'm Graham Ruthven and you can catch me on Twitter ahead of the match to let me know your thoughts. Can Lyon give themselves a chance of making the quarter finals? Tweet me!
Dembele starts! The French winger has struggled with injury of late, but Valverde has picked him over Coutinho to face Lyon this evening. Vidal and Alena drop out of the Barca team.
