Just before the whistle blows, Messi sees a glorious chance blocked! What a finish that would have been, but the points have been shared!
Ter Stegen the hero for Barca.
Three minutes added on, after an awful Lenglet challenge goes unpunished. Time for a late winner?
No way through for Messi since he's come on.
- OffPaco AlcácerBorussia Dortmund
- OnJacob Bruun LarsenBorussia Dortmund
And so - that's the first game this season Alcacer hasn't scored! Off he goes...
Now it's Barca on top.
This would be proper smash-and-grab stuff if they nick a win here...
DOUBLE SAVE! Ter Stegen denies Reus again... twice! Brandt's low cross picks out Reus, but the Dortmund captain sees two attempts saved by Ter Stegen in a matter of seconds.
OFF THE BAR! What a strike, and what an impact that would have been from Brandt, whose strike from distance rattles the bar and had Ter Stegen beaten.
ANOTHER REUS MISS! The Dortmund skipper gets his effort all wrong, meeting Hakimi's low cross 12 yards out with a wild strike that flies high over the bar.
- OffThorgan HazardBorussia Dortmund
- OnJulian BrandtBorussia Dortmund
Now it's Pique who handballs it but his is more accidental and luckily for his sake he avoids a second yellow.
Sub time for Dortmund, on comes Brandt for Hazard.
OVER! Not an easy chance to convert as Alcacer gets too much onto Hazard's low cross, sending the ball well over the bar when it needed a little more finesse.
- Yellow cardIvan RakiticFC Barcelona
Ter Stegen jumps to gather the ball and fumbles it when Delaney clatters into him. It's a free-kick, but nothing more for Barca, with Delaney already on a yellow card.
And now Rakitic is booked for a cynical handball which prevented Dortmund from breaking.
They're not wrong, to be honest. The referee wasted a good 20 seconds warning Ter Stegen not to come off his line - what was the point?
Good cross from Delaney and Reus' header deflects over - he's certainly trying to make up for his saved penalty, but no dice so far for the Dortmund skipper.
Hazard takes but it's Pique who heads the ball away.
Reus with a tidy turn before his left-footed shot deflects off Semedo and goes wide for a corner...
Guess who's back.
- OffSergio BusquetsFC Barcelona
- OnIvan RakiticFC Barcelona
It's a double sub for Barca, with Rakitic replacing Busquets too.
30 minutes to go...
- OffAnsu FatiFC Barcelona
- OnLionel MessiFC Barcelona
As replays show Ter Stegen was off his line to keep out Reus' penalty, off goes Fati to be replaced by Messi.
To make matters worse for Dortmund, Messi is stripped and ready to come on...
WHAT A SAVE!
Two Germans face-off, but it's Ter Stegen who brilliantly dives to his left to keep out Reus' spot-kick!
- Yellow cardNélson SemedoFC Barcelona
Sancho cuts back inside and goes down when Semedo treads on his boot. Booking for the Barca defender, penalty to Dortmund...
PENALTY TO DORTMUND!
WIDE! Hummels heads wide, but it wouldn't have mattered had it gone in as the defender was offside when the free-kick came in.
Another free-kick fort Dortmund in a promising position - a bit wider though, so perhaps it'll be crossed instead...Unless Guerreiro wants it with his left foot?
Alcacer takes but his free-kick smashes into the wall.
- Yellow cardGerard PiquéFC Barcelona
Now Pique is booked for bringing down Hakimi.
Dortmund with a free-kick, central, some 20 yards out...
CHANCE! Suarez ghosts past Akanji but sees his effort blocked after darting into the box.
- Yellow cardThorgan HazardBorussia Dortmund
Hazard goes in the book early doors this second half for a late challenge.
And before the ball was even kicked, Messi headed off for his warm-up.
There's your answer. We'll see him sooner rather than later, it would seem.
- 2nd Half
Back under way in Germany. Will either side break the deadlock?
That lad on the bench perhaps? The one with the beard.
- End of 1st Half
There goes the half-time whistle - nothing to separate the two sides, but it was certainly Barca who finished on top.
See you in 15!
SO CLOSE! Hummels to the rescue as the defender gets his head to the ball after Griezmann flicks a corner into the six-yard box.
Fati skips past Hakimi and picks out Suarez, who has his back to goal and is eventually squeezed out.
THREE minutes added on.
From the following free-kick there's a bit on pinball in the Dortmund box but vitally the hosts get a boot to clear it.
Fati's fouled by Hakimi and then the Barca teen gets caught on the head by Hummels accidentally. He's back up quickly though.
Semedo has switched over to the left as a result.
- OffJordi AlbaFC Barcelona
- OnSergi RobertoFC Barcelona
OVER! It's 4v3 as Dortmund go on the attack - it's laid off for Sancho but he can't keep his effort down.
As expected, off goes Alba, on comes Sergi Roberto.
Third kits are nonsense, but this one is just grand.
OVER! Barca's free-kick is sent into the box and after Burki hesitates, he comes forward to punch the ball away, catching team-mate Alcacer, before Fati sees his effort deflect over.
Looks like Sergi Roberto is warming up on the sidelines - Alba can't lost much longer.
Meanwhile, Alcacer is back on after receiving treatment.
...he's limping off towards his dugout but no substitution has been made...
....and now he has hobbled back on. He doesn't look fit to continue.
Alba's down and it doesn't look good - he has pulled up after an attempted cross. Let's see if he'll carry on...
Alba sends in a wicked cross but Hummels is there to clear away. Dortmund go on the break... Hakimi cuts onto his left but then drags his shot wide.
OVER! Reus' cross is met by Hummels, but his flicked header sails just over the bar.
Sancho is rolling around after Fati catches him on the ankle. Sancho does appear to make a meal of it, but he's still walking gingerly as he gets back up. Good chance for Reus to cross one in...
Dortmund started the match on top, Barca then upped the ante, and now it's the hosts again back in control...
BIG SAVE! Hazard cuts onto his right foot and threads through a delightful pass for Reus, who looks to blast it under Ter Stegen, but the Barcelona goalkeeper gets a vital boot to it.
That's not to say it's boring though. Just two heavyweights sizing each other up, is all.
Two quality sides just cancelling each other out as it stands - a few half-chances but no big opportunities yet.
Would you look at that...
- Yellow cardThomas DelaneyBorussia Dortmund
First yellow of the game as Delaney catches Busquets late. The Dortmund midfielder has a wry smile on his face as he talks to the referee - it was a foul, but a harsh booking.
WIDE AGAIN! Pique meets the corner at the near post but flashes his header beyond the far post. Barca on top as it stands.
WIDE! Barca enjoy a period of sustained possession, practically passing it around for the past two minutes, and it ends with Griezmann seeing his effort from the edge of the area deflect wide. Wonder what the pass count was on that...
LUCKY! Griezmann - inside his own box for some reason - gives the ball away straight to Alcacer, but the Dortmund forward rushes his shot and it trickles wide.
Unsurprisingly, Valverde ushers Griezmann forward...
Good work again by Sancho, who sends in a cross which appears to take Hazard by surprise - and he cannot get the shot away.
Dortmund have started brightly here, enjoying the majority of possession.
CLOSE! Sancho weaves his way into the Barca box, but after he goes down a cross is eventually sent in by Hazard, but his cross just evades Alcacer.
A fast start. Fati's pass in search of Suarez is intercepted and Dortmund go on the counter, but Pique is there to mop up and Barca have the ball once more.
Barca in their glorious new third kit, Dortmund in their traditional yellow and black. Let's hope for a cracker!
- 1st Half
It's back. Dortmund and Barca get their Champions League campaigns under way - who will strike the first blow in Group F?
...... and Chelsea v Valencia here!
What a night of Champions League football.
A good time to remind you that you can follow Napoli v Liverpool here........
Right then. The teams are out. Time for that most glorious of anthems before we get under way.
Hymn sheets at the ready.
Special moment for Bartra
This, by the way, is the first meeting between Dortmund and Barcelona in 20 (TWENTY) years.
They last met in the 1997 Super Cup, where Barca won their home leg 2-0 and drew 1-1 away to secure a 3-1 aggregate victory.
Former Barcelona striker Alcacer starts against his old club, and heads into the game having scored in every match for club and country so far this season.
He’ll lead the line ahead of Sancho, Reus and Hazard.
The King has returned… to the bench, for now. Messi is only fit enough to be among the substitutes, while 16-year-old Fati resumes alongside Griezmann and Suarez up front.
In doing so, Fati becomes the youngest Barcelona player in their Champions League history.
Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen, Semedo, Lenglet, Pique, Jordi Alba, Arthur, Busquets, De Jong, Suarez, Griezmann, Fati
Subs: Neto, Rakitic, Todibo, Messi, Sergi Roberto, Vidal, Carles Perez
Dortmund XI: Burki, Hakimi, Hummels, Akanji, Guerreiro, Delaney, Witsel, Sancho, Reus, Hazard, Alcacer
Subs: Hupe, Zagadou, Dahoud, Gotze, Brandt, Weigl, Bruun Larsen
The Champions League is back. All hail the Champions League.
The rest of Europe have a point to prove after Liverpool lifted their sixth European Cup last season - no club more so than Barcelona.
Ernesto Valverde's side catapulted in their semi-final second leg at Liverpool, and their Champions League campaign this time around could hardly have started with a more difficult task.
