FULL TIME: Manchester City coast to a 5-1 victory, with Raheem Sterling grabbing a hat-trick. It wasn't all plain-sailing for Pep Guardiola though, as Rodri picked up a first-half injury and young Phil Foden was sent off late on.
- Yellow cardNicolás OtamendiManchester City
Freuler forces Ederson into a late save, just before Otamendi is shown a yellow card for a foul on Pasalic.
There will be three minutes of added time to play.
Into the final couple of minutes of normal time now. The injury to Rodri aside, it has been a productive night for Man City. They are going five points clear of third place with this victory.
It's really disappointing for Foden after an inspirational performance on just his second start of the season.
- Red cardPhil FodenManchester City
RED CARD! Foden pulls back De Roon and is shown a second yellow card. The decision is greeted by jeers from the home support and Guardiola is incensed. That's harsh.
Atalanta chance! Muriel glides past Stones and delivers a dangerous cross but City manage to hook it away.
- Yellow cardPhil FodenManchester City
Yellow card! Foden goes into the book for a foul on Malinovskiy in midfield. Guardiola feels the yellow card is harsh and remonstrates with the linesman.
How has Sterling missed? A collector's item as the City forward is ushered through on goal with all the time in the world to pick his spot past the goalkeeper but he somehow rolls the ball past the far post.
The complete player.
- OffJosip IlicicAtalanta
- OnHans HateboerAtalanta
Atalanta sub: Hans Hateboer comes on for the disappointing Ilicic.
- OffBenjamin MendyManchester City
- OnJoão CanceloManchester City
Man City sub: Joao Cancelo replaces Mendy at full-back.
- GoalRaheem SterlingManchester City
GOAL! Man City 5-1 Atalanta: Sterling nets his hat-trick! Aguero is denied by point-blank range by Gollini, but the ball is recycled and Mahrez curls a delicious cross into the box which the fully-stretched Sterling converts.
Atalanta's goal is disallowed! It's a let-off for City. Ilicic is played through, he tees up Freuler, whose shot cannons off the post, but he reacts quickest to score from the rebound. However, Ilicic was in an offside position and it won't count.
Sterling is the complete player now, isn't he? It has been another world class performance from one of the best players on the planet.
- GoalRaheem SterlingManchester City
GOAL! Man City 4-1 Atalanta: Sterling at the double! The Englishman grabs his brace with a lovely finish. After receiving a through-ball from Gundogan, he checks inside and slots it past the helpless Gollini.
Double save from Ederson! The City goalkeeper isn't just useful with his feet! He pushes Ilicic's first shot away from goal and gathers himself to smother the Atalanta forward's second attempt.
That's Sterling's 10th goal in 13 games for City. Guardiola will be encouraged with Foden's assist too. The teenager has been lively tonight.
- GoalRaheem SterlingManchester City
GOAL! Man City 3-1 Atalanta: That should do it! De Bruyne is ushered through on the right from Walker's pass, he cuts inside, centres it to Foden, who lays it off to Sterling and he blasts it into the net from close range.
Shot and a save! Sterling lifts another cross into the box and Atalanta can only clear as far as De Bruyne, whose deflected shot is pushed to safety by Gollini.
Another outrageous pass from Ederson finds Sterling out wide. He lifts a cross to the far post but Atalanta clear their lines. Aguero is back on his feet and fit to continue.
Atalanta double up on Aguero and the Argentine is caught by not just one but two forceful challenges. He's down and needs treatment. City cannot afford to lose him.
That's awful from Ilicic! Atalanta produce a rapid counter-attack with incisive passing and then the forward completely fluffs his line, shooting closer to the corner flag than goal with a hopeless shot from distance.
Wow, what a pass from Ederson to release Mahrez behind the Atalanta defence! The offside flag goes up, but that was something special from City's goalkeeper.
City start on the front foot, winning a corner through Foden after a great pass from the magician De Bruyne.

The second half commences. More of the same, please!
- OffAlejandro GómezAtalanta
- OnLuís MurielAtalanta
Atalana DOUBLE sub: Luis Muriel is on for Gomez, while Mario Pasalic comes on for Masiello, as the Italians go two up top.
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: The referee calls time on a hugely entertaining first half. Having conceded the opener, Man City responded with two Sergio Aguero goals to turn the match on its head.
TWO minutes will be added on at the end of the first half.
Good save! Walker lines up a venomous shot from distance, it takes a deflection and Gollini makes a great save to deny City a third.
Foden, De Bruyne and Sterling are involved in a slick move with the latter forcing a corner.
- OffRodrigoManchester City
- OnJohn StonesManchester City
Man City sub: Rodri is being replaced by Stones, who has just received an earful from his manager for not being ready quickly enough to come on!
Rodri makes a mistake but shows good pace to get back and make an intervention - however, he has pulled his hamstring. He's going off and City's injury problems continue to mount.
- Goal by penaltySergio AgüeroManchester City
GOAL! Man City 2-1 Atalanta: Aguero is into double figures for the season but more importantly City are ahead! The Argentine buries his spot-kick beyond the reach of Gollini as the ball nestles into the corner.
PENALTY TO MAN CITY! City spring a rapid counter-attack, De Bruyne slipping a ball into the path of the lightening quick Sterling, who is caught by Masiello, forcing the referee to award the penalty.
Lovely finish by Aguero after a beautiful cross from Sterling. Text-book City on the attack. Atalanta gave up a 3-0 lead against Lazio to draw 3-3 at the weekend and it's clear they have real problems defending.
- GoalSergio AgüeroManchester City
GOAL! Man City 1-1 Atalanta: Aguero nets the equaliser on his 100th European appearance, pulling off the shoulder of the defender to tuck in from Sterling's pin-point cross. As easy as you like.
Fernandinho gave away a penalty at Schalke last season, if you can remember. I wonder if Guardiola is regretting his decision not to go with a natural centre-back.
Guardiola has recognised centre-backs in Stones and Otamendi on the bench tonight but opted to go with Rodri and Fernandinho instead. The entire back-four hasn't looked comfortable so far tonight against this stylish Atalanta attack.
- Goal by penaltyRuslan MalinovskiyAtalanta
GOAL! Man City 0-1 Atalanta: Malinovskiy coolly steps up and slots the penalty confidently into the bottom corner, sending Ederson the wrong way.
PENALTY TO ATALANTA! Fernandinho makes a naive and needless challenge on Ilicic just inside the area and the referee points to the spot!
Aguero goes close again! Foden, with a rare chance to impress tonight, tip-toes past Masiello at the by-line and cuts it back for Aguero who leans back and blazes his shot over from 10 yards!
Save! City are upping the ante in search of an opener now. Aguero cuts inside Toloi and curls a left-footed shot to the bottom corner but Gollini gets the slightest but most important of touches to push it behind for a corner!
Chance! That's better from City. Foden plays a lovely ball into the path of Sterling, who looks up and spots Aguero unmarked at the far post, but his pass is slightly behind the Argentine and Atalanta survive.
Shot! City's defence are affording Atalanta's forward players too much space at the moment. Ilicic is allowed to cut inside and shoot with his left foot but he doesn't get enough power in his shot to test Ederson from outside the box.
Tottenham have doubled their lead - Son makes it 2-0. Happy days at Spurs!
No penalty! Foden wriggles his way inside the Atalanta box but falls to the ground under pressure from Xhimshiti. Replays show the Atalanta defender brushed Foden's face with his arm - but there wasn't enough in it to be a foul.
Harry Kane has given Tottenham the lead in their home tie with Red Star. How they needed that.
Sterling cuts in from the left and floats a cross to the far post, searching for Aguero, but there's just too much zip on the ball and it goes out for a goal-kick.
Chance for Atalanta! Walker is again caught napping as Gosens advances on the flank and his cross is perfect for Castagne who gets ahead of Mendy but can only head over the bar.
City's defence was solid as a rock in the 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace at the weekend - but there are huge problems in this back four tonight, particularly on the right where Walker is getting exposed.
- Yellow cardAndrea MasielloAtalanta
Yellow card! Masiello goes into the referee's book for a late tackle on De Bruyne.
Walker is pulled out of position allowing Gosens acres of space to run into on the right flank. His cross is behind his attacking team mates, however, and City escape.
Atalanta are nearly in! A couple of passes in City's final third carves open the home defence as a threaded through ball plays Ilicic in but he takes a heavy first touch and the chance is gone.
- Yellow cardBenjamin MendyManchester City
Yellow card! Mendy is booked for a high challenge on Illic, catching his opponent on the shin. Nasty. He's actually fortunate to escape with just a yellow card.
Ederson fumbles a simple cross into the box and needs Rodri to help him out! At the other end, De Bruyne hooks a delivery from the flank straight out of play.
Atalanta are the top goalscorers in Serie A and only know how to play one way: on the attack. They're playing with a back-three tonight. It should make for an entertaining contest.
- 1st Half
Kick-off: City get the game underway.
It's Manchester City versus Atalanta in the Champions League, it's LIVE and it's NEXT!
Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb have drawn 2-2 in today's early kick-off, which will suit Manchester City nicely. Guardiola's charges will move five points clear of second and third place with a win tonight.
City getting warm... there are 10 minutes until kick-off!
Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta boss: "Manchester City are the best team in the group, among the candidates to win the Champions League. Being able to face these teams is part of our learning curve."
Guardiola: "Atalanta qualifying for the Champions League is incredible, honestly. I'm not surprised when I watch yesterday and today, I have some friends in Italy and get some info on the teams. I know how difficult it will be. We have to be sharp, smart, clever. Honestly a real, real tough game."
Former City keeper Joe Hart is delighted to see Foden handed his second start of the season...
Manchester City are looking to continue their perfect start to Group C, having recorded 2-0 and 3-0 victories over Dinamo Zagreb and Shakhtar Donetsk respectively. Another three points tonight would set them well on course for early progression to the last 16.
Atalanta may be flying high in third place in Serie A after an impressive start, but in Europe it is has been a baptism of fire for the new boys in the Champions League. A 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb on matchday one was following by an unfortunate 2-1 defeat to Shakhtar Donestk. But tonight is their most glamorous tie and backed by over 2,000 travelling fans, Atalanta may prove to be a difficult opponent for City.
Like he did against Palace on Saturday, Pep Guardiola opts against using a natural central back. Instead Fernandinho and Rodri fill the voids at the back, even though John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi are fit again. In midfield, Phil Foden is handed a rare chance to impress. He plays alongside Kevin De Bruyne, who will operate behind the exciting front three of Riyad Mahrez, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling.
Manchester City XI: Ederson, Walker, Rodri, Fernandinho, Mendy, Foden, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Mahrez, Sterling, Aguero.. subs: Bravo, Stones, Otamendi, Cancelo, D Silva, B Silva, Jesus. /// Atalanta XI: Gollini, Toloi, Djimsiti, Masiello, Castagne, de Roon, Freuler, Gosens, Malinovsky, Gomez, Ilicic.. subs: Muriel, Guilherme Arana, Hateboer, Ibanez, Sportiello, Pasalic, Barrow.
