That's it, full time. City have won it. There was a little stress before the first goal went in, but after that they were barely challenged. After defeat to Norwich, it was a change of pace and one they will need to keep up when they get back to England.

Plenty of City possession at the moment, but they move it quickly to slice through Shakhtar. Gundogan receives it, but dawdles for so long he is tackled by the 'keeper who rushes out.
Rubbish from everyone. Shakhtar give the ball away in their own half. Gundogan runs at goal, shoots straight at the keeper. Ktyvtsov swings a leg at it, Rooney style, and it goes straight to Sterling who then clatters his shot at the post.
Gundogan finds Zinchenko, who rolls a backheel into the path Jesus' run, but he's flagged offside as he shoots.
Moraes is given a ball to chase, and the ludicrous attempt from Ederson rush and cover for the perfectly adept Fernandinho ends in embarrassment when Moraes spins away from the 'keeper, out of the box, and sends a shot wide of the far post.

We go again, and Solomon is replaced by Konoplyanka.

That's half time, a second after Sterling drills a shot over the bar.

Taison scoops a pass into the path of Moraes, Ederson comes down and catches him, and to be honest it looks like an obvious penalty as the 'keeper did not get the ball at all, but everyone seems content just to ignore it. Weird.
De Bruyne is found by Jesus who rolled the ball into his path, and he attempts to skid a shot past Pyatov and inside the near post, but it drifts just wide.

A vital intervention from Ederson after Moraes bears down on him, but the Brazilian crucially blocks his effort.
Sterling is picked out by Rodri, and he plays the ball back for City to stay in possession. Sterling receives it back again, and he hoofs a shot straight at the 'keeper.
Bolbat finds Solomon, who blasts a cross into a defender. Marlos picks it up again, but some quick passing from Shakhtar ends when the ball bounces off Otamendi.
City clear Marlos' poor free kick that is nowhere near deep enough.
Free kick for Shakhtar, 40 yards out.
City are putting their opponents under some pressure now.

GOAL! Shakhtar Donetsk 0-1 Manchester City. Mahrez scores - Shaktar fail to clear the box, Gundogan presses and works space to sidefoot a shot from the edge of the box. It strikes the inside of the post and Mahrez is on hand to tap in to an empty net.
The corner comes to nothing, as Jesus seize on a loose ball outside the penalty to blast miles high and wide.
Gundogan slips in Jesus, who takes a few touches before shooting inside the box, and his effort is deflected wide.
Guardiola has won seven of his last nine games here.
Rodri intercepts, he slides it to Sterling on the left, and Matviienko heads away his cross.
De Bruyne stumbles, Taison finds Marlos. Solomon takes it as the move slows down, back to Marlos, and now City have raced back to defend deep.
Walker wazzes one at goal from 35 yards out. It's gone out of play.
Zinchenko pulls down Solomon to prevent a break down the right. No yellow.
Jesus finds De Bruyne, and he wafts a pass into the box that skids away and out for a goal kick.
Marlos cuts onto his left foot from the right, and whips a curling shot at goal that flies a couple of yards wide of the post.
City's team are optimistic.
Mahrez swings in a cross to the back post that Otamendi stretches to reach, but it drifts out of play.
A last-second tackle from Walker on Ismaily after Taison had released him down the left is a vital challenge. Walker may have tweaked something there.
Sterling is clattered on the left by Bolbat. From the free kick Gundogan is penalised for leaning.
Shakhtar are showing that they are comfortable too, mind, and have a long spell on the ball.
Zinchenko is tackled on the left wing after being released by Gundogan. City are pressing now.
Rodri wins a free kick in midfield, but neither team have the upper hand yet.
Rodri gets on the end of a cross that Fernandinho lets go, and he bumps it well wide as it took him by surprise.

Here's something from the big story yesterday.
This is the first, and probably toughest, match for City in the group. Dinamo Zagreb and Atalanta should give up 12 points combined, whereas this is an unsettling way to travel and play.
It appears that Pep Guardiola is attempting to deal with the absence of John Stones and Aymeric Laporte by employing Fernandinho in central defence. We'll have to wait and see how the side line up in case he is redefining football in way sthat are not apparent from a team sheet.
