- End of 2nd Half
Timo Werner scored two penalties to help Chelsea ease to a 3-0 win over 10-man Rennes at Stamford Bridge.
It's a well deserved win against a spirited side.
The Blues stay top of their Champions League group with their sights set firmly on the knockout-stages.
Some silky feet from James at the end there. He's had a great game.
Chelsea coasting towards victory.
Giroud should score here. It's a free header but he misses the target completely.
THREE MINUTES STOPPAGE TIME
- Yellow cardRomain Del CastilloStade Rennais
Del Castillo picks up a booking after tripping Werner with some nasty contact on his Achilles heel.
Rennes are still playing some nice attacking football and their heads have not dipped despite the score.
They've had more possession tonight too! Now that's a surprise.
Rennes should have one back but for a brilliant save by Mendy!
He's had nothing to do but he's on his toes for a Grenier shot who was in acres of space inside the box.
Chelsea coaseting to victory now and given both managers have made five changes it looks like both are happy to look towards their domestic fixtures this weekend.
- Yellow cardMateo KovacicChelsea
Kovacic picks up a booking now for swinging an arm at a throat. Unintentional but still...an arm hits a throat you'll get a yellow.
James gives away a foul near the halfway line after some top chasing. To be fair to Rennes, they've done well to keep this respectable so far.
They've conceded just the once since going down to ten men.
- OffSerhou GuirassyStade Rennais
- OnAdrien HunouStade Rennais
Hunou is on for Giurassy for Rennes.
That's five subs each now. Not sure I've ever blogged a 10-sub match before.
And with 14 minutes left too!
- OffHakim ZiyechChelsea
- OnCallum Hudson-OdoiChelsea
Okay I lied, there is another sub.
Ziyech is off for Hudson-Odoi.
Giroud has a great chance to make it four. He's through one on one and tries to dink the 'keeper but Gomis smothers him.
It'll interest both clubs to know that Seville and Krasnodar are drawing 2-2 in Spain...
Zouma is in some pain and looks like he's stick a hamstring there.
He's on his haunches and isn't moving well.
I transferred him into my fantasy team two hours ago so I'll take the blame for this if he's injured/
- OffThiago SilvaChelsea
- OnAntonio RüdigerChelsea
Last sub I swear...
Rudiger is on for Thiago Silva who has been brilliant tonight.
Werner so nearly scores his hat-trick after a brilliant pass from Thiago Silva to James!
James lays it on a plate but the Rennes centre back Da Silva just about gets a toe to stop it.
- Yellow cardJorginhoChelsea
Chelsea are now seven hours without conceding...
But Jorginho has picked up a booking for a poor challenge all the same.
- OffBen ChilwellChelsea

STARTER FOR THREE
A moment of reprieve for Rennes who win a corner. They should take their time and catch their breathe.
It's a poor corner and fails to clear Chilwell at the near post.
Rennes come back at Chelsea but they very much look like a team a man down.
Mount on the move for Chelsea now with James always darting around the right.
Then there's Ziyech on the left too and Chelsea are just overloading Rennes with attacking talent.
Chelsea rampant now as Werner weaves his way down the right.
Rennes are in all sorts of panic at the back. This could be a thrashing.
- GoalTammy AbrahamChelsea
GOAL! CHELSEA 3 RENNES 0 (Abraham, 51)
Brilliant down the right from James who picks out Abraham with a whipped cross. Abraham nips in at the near post and slides in with his left foot.
Ziyech with a free shot from eight yards out misstimes his shots and skies it.
Great save from Gomis whose flying arm blocks Abraham's shot. The striker was offside but that's a brilliant reaction save all the same.
AND WE'RE BACK UNDERWAY
- OffJames Lea SilikiStade Rennais
- OnAdrien TruffertStade Rennais
Truffert is on for Rennes and will fill in for Dalbert at left-back...
- End of 1st Half
Rennes need a miracle here. Rennes are two goals and a man down and Chelsea look so comfortable.
Lampard can probably afford to rest a few players here and no doubt the Blues will try and take it easy.
THREE MINUTES STOPPAGE TIME
You have to feel bad for Dalbert.
That's not a pen in my book, or anyone's book really, except the rule book apparently.
Chelsea can afford to take it easy now and this could be a long night for Rennes.
- Goal by penaltyTimo WernerChelsea
GOAL! CHELSEA 2 RENNES 0 (Werner pen, 41)
Werner absolute smacks it into the top corner.
Chelsea in control, Werner has a double. Rennes down to 10.
- Red cardDalbertStade Rennais
Dalbert is off! A shocking night for the player in all honesty, without even playing badly.
PENALTY TO CHELSEA
The ref has given it! Dalbert's arms are adjudged to be in an unnatural position.
Dalbert the culprit again, Chelsea with the pen again.
The ref is going to check the screen....
Mount is down on the edge of the box and is rolling around in pain.
Now VAR is checking for a Chelsea pen after Dalbert handles in the box. Seems harsh as it bounced off his shin but you never know...
Rennes are on the front foot here but without that killer pass.
Chelsea are doing well to keep things tidy at the back but the French side are on top.
Then, two passes later the Blues win a corner at the other end.
Zouma gets a head on it but it bounces wide.
Rennes with another free kick on the edge of the box - the French side are knocking on the door a little here.
There's plenty of white shirts up there for this.
Bourigeaud whips a fierce drive that just about flies past the post and is a little too quick for any teammates to get a touch on it. Great free-kick.
- Yellow cardN'Golo KantéChelsea
It was in fact Kante who picked up the yellow card. Zouma is off the hook, while Kante - whose last red was against Rennes - is on a booking.
Zouma gave the foul away but Kante picked up a yellow for knocking the ball away in front of the ref.
Jorginho picks out James on the right hand side with a peach of a bak..
James is in all sorts of space down the right in this match and earns a corner. Chelsea take it short but Rennes eventually clear.
Zouma makes up for it with some good tracking as Dalbert whips a good ball in for Guirassy.
Zouma watches him all the way and get a block in. Giurassy was offside but good defending all the same.
Zouma picks a up a yellow for an impatient and somewhat unecessary tackle. Chelsea's first booking of the night.
The ball almot breaks for Ziyech but for some alert goalkeeping from Gomis.
Rennes go on the counter now but seven blue shirts get behind the ball in no time.
Chelsea still on top here.
Kante, James and Mount are roaming around the midfield with Jorginho holding.
It's good football but Rennes are stubborn at the back. Chelsea may be missing Havertz who has that creative edge over Kante.
Abraham takes a whack and goes down in some pain. The Blues knock it out of play...
But he's okay to carry on.
Chelsea easing through the first quarter of an hour today.
Rennes are playing with intensity but the Blues backline has looked stubborn. Credit to the boss for turning this side into one that keeps clean sheets. Mendy has conceded just once in his five matches for Chelsea so far.
Handball against Werner up the other end after he blocks Dalbert's cross.
The free-kick is far away and above any lurking white shirts and Mendy collects the follow-up cross.
- Goal by penaltyTimo WernerChelsea
GOAL! CHELSEA 1 RENNES 0 (Werner, pen 11')
Werner smacks it with venom and Gomis gets a hand to it but not quite enough.
The Blues lead.
PENALTY TO CHELSEA
Stonewall pen as Werner is taken down inside the box. He sidesteps Dalbert who sticks a foot out and brings down the striker.
Dalbert picks up a booking for his protests.
Almost a brilliant finish from Ziyech.
He plucks the ball out the sky and one touch later he's lobbing the Rennes 'keeper with a beautiful bit of technique.
But it just lands on the top of the net.
Good moment now for Rennes as Traore earns a corner down the right. A few inches from hitting Chilwell on the arm that one.
The corner bobbles through the box with neither side able to get a touch.
The Blues are pressing Rennes so high and the French side are struggling to get out here. Blue shirts everywhere.
Thiago Silva is ready to clean up at the back too whenever Rennes get a sniff at a counter. He's looked a solid signing.
Great run down the right from James at full-back with a few lovely one-twos before he whips in a cross.
Chelsea looking sharp early on.
- 1st Half
THREE MINUTES WARNING
Rennes are currently third in Ligue 1 while Chelsea sit seventh in the Premier League.
Rennes - W5 D3 L1
Chelsea - W3 D3 L1
MENDY FACES FORMER CLUB
Lampard looked desperate to sign a 'keeper this summer to step in for the erratic Kepa, and he found his man Edouard Mendy who moved from Rennes.
Just over a month later he now faces the side he helped make it into the Champions League.
Can he keep a clean sheet against his former buddies?
Jorginho replaces Havertz in the side and will skipper the Blues tonight
HOW THINGS STAND
Well, Chelsea and Seville are neck and neck at the top of the group with four points apiece.
While Rennes and Krasnodar have just a point each and prop up Group E.
But hat could all change with unlikely wins for the latter tonight.
But as thing stand, the favourites look poised for the round of 16.
HAVERTZ TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19
Summer signing Kai Havertz misses out on the match day squad altogether after Frank Lampard confirms the midfielder has tested positive for Covid-19.
Let's hope he's okay.
RENNES XI: Gomis, Traore, Da Silva, Aguerd, Dalbert, Bourigeaud, Nzonzi, Lea-Siliki, Gboho, Guirassy, Terrier.
