FULL TIME

Huge result for Chelsea who, despite their struggles domestically, are suddenly on the verge of the Champions League semi-finals.

Massive.

Porto will be gutted. They had chances but were shell shocked twice by two brilliant England players who scored their first Champions League goals at the perfect time.

90+2'

Chelsea just seeing this one out now.

Remember, the job is only half done. Porto will be back here in two weeks with their best two goalscorers and will fancy scoring twice. It's not really an away game, remember.

90'

Absolutely massive from Chelsea who have one big foot in the semi-finals.

They've looked nothing like the side that got battered by West Brom. This is game management at its best. Rigid, resolute, rampant.

  • Ben Chilwell

GOAL! PORTO 0 CHELSEA 2 (Chilwell 85)

Game over!? Tie over!?

Chilwell scores his first goal in Europe!

Chilwell picks Toni's pocket and drives through on goal, rounding the 'keeper and slotting home. Brilliant.

84'

Porto have had 12 attempts to Chelsea's five, with five on target to Chelsea's two.

But the Blues are 1-0 up and that's all that matters.

82'

Thiago Silva and Kante, two of the best defensive players you could hope to bring on to help see out a match, have come on...

79'

Porto are pressing now but Chelsea are managing this game perfectly.

They're lumping it up to Giroud who, actually, hasn't had a touch in ten minutes. But all the same, Chelsea look very much in control.

76'

Conceicao, the Porto boss, picks up a yellow for what I think can be described as 'mouthing off' on the sidelines.

Emotions.

75'

Marega goes down in the box but the ref isn't interested.

The VAR has had a quiet night tonight, which to be honest I'm absolutely fine with.

72'

Marega hits a great dribbler on the turn that Mendy still has to dive for. Never really a threat.

More action shots for you though.

Reece James and Otavio (Porto-Chelsea, Champions League Quarter-final)
70'

Porto just in danger of running out of time here as we enter the final 20 minutes of the match. They've not created much in the last 15 minutes and Chelsea have looked very much in control.

To be fair to Porto, they are missing two players who are responsible for 40 per cent of their goals this season. So, they might feel a little better in the second leg.

67'

Two Chelsea changes as Werner makes way for Pulisic and Havertz comes off for Giroud.

Both Germans have had very indifferent (poor) nights as far as I'm concerned.

66'

Mbemba picks up a booking for a swipe at Chilwell.

CHANCE!

James whips in a dangerous ball from the free-kick and Azpilicueta essentially has a free header but just sends it miles wide. What on earth was that?

61

WHAT A MISS!

Unbelievable.

Rudiger strikes the ball which Marchesin fumbles. Werner is on hand to square for Havertz who has an open goal to aim at but somehow pokes wide.

Luckily for the German, Werner was offside. But that is a shocking miss all the same.

59'

CHANCE!

Luis Diaz finds a yard outside the box and bends an effort just wide of Mendy's left-hand post. Cloooooseeee.

57'

Some pinball football inside the box as Chilwell clears off the line but the whistle had already gone to award a free-kick in Chelsea's favour.

54'

Azpilicueta to the rescue this time to close down Luis Diaz bearing in on goal.

Porto looking lively all of a sudden.

53'

Corona goes to ground. Ref is having none of it.

SAVE!

Marega catches Rudiger napping and is in behind the Chelsea defence. He rifles an effort at goal but Mendy makes himself big. Great chance. Best chance for Porto yet.

51'

James making another lively start. He and Mount are making a great case for the England squad in recent weeks. The former is nailed on but the latter is starting to look a really great option.

Chelsea with all of the ball so far in the second half.

48'

Can Chelsea build on their away goal?

You feel a two-goal lead would really kill this tie off...but only Manchester City have failed to stop Porto from scoring in a Champions League match so far this season.

46'

BACK UNDERWAY

  • End of 1st Half

HALF TIME

Porto looked the more dangerous sides for large parts of this first 45 but Chelsea landed the suckerpunch and take a 1-0 and an away goal into the interval.

Mason Mount the standout player and has his first Champions League goal to show for it.

See you in 15.

45'

CHANCE!

Corona gets a show away now but Azpilicueta deflects for the corner. Great defending.

SAVE!

Pepe leaps highest for the corner and forces a strong save from Mendy!

43'

Porto trying to squeeze an equaliser in before half time but Chelsea are looking good for their lead right now.

They'll be big favourites to progress to the semi-finals courtesy of that 'away' goal, but anything can happen in the Champions League. Especially this season.

40'

That's Mount's first Champions League goal and fair play to him because he's been Chelsea's best player so far tonight.

He never goes hiding.

Porto just trying to take the sting out of this Chelsea momentum.

36'

Chelsea's first shot on goal that was. Marchesin has to do better but Mount's turn was worth a goal and now Chelsea have the bit between their teeth as they go in search of a second.

  • Mason Mount
GoalMason MountChelseaGOAL! PORTO 0 CHELSEA 1 (Mount 32) But you only need one chance!!! Chelsea have an absolutely vital away goal. Jorginho picks out Mount with a glorious ball into the box but Mount's turn is the best part about this goal, giving him all the space in the world to have a go. The Porto goalie has to do better really but Mount just drives it through him and Chelsea have the lead!

GOAL! PORTO 0 CHELSEA 1 (Mount 32)

But you only need one chance!!!

32'

Havertz and Werner, some 120m worth of talent, have hardly had a touch so far.

I actually forgot they were playing because Porto have isolated them and Chelsea seem truly determined to put every attack through James on the right.

Porto then put the breaks on that by prevent the wing-back from getting a ball into the box. All of that adds up to zero attempts

29'

ACTION

Good game so far, despite the lack of goals.

FC Porto's Portuguese midfielder Wilson Manafa (L) vies with Chelsea's Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta during the UEFA Champions League first leg quarter final football match between FC Porto and Chelsea FC at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium in Sevil
28'

Sanusi actually missed the follow-up there when perhaps he should've scored.

I'd wager that a set piece could settle this one because both sides are keeping things so tight. Cage central.

27'

Porto with some absolute silk from another corner as Otavio dinks the ball over for Corona.

SAVE!

Otavio gets another chance and forces Mendy into a save with a cheeky bending ball in straight from the corner. Great goalkeeping, had to be alert.

Porto on top now.

24'

Porto have a free kick and Pepe is up in the box for this one.

It's a decent ball into the box and Chelsea can only clear for a corner.

But Kovacic gets this one away.

22'

A scrappy few minutes we've had here in Seville.

Neither side have taken too many risks so far with both just keeping things tight at the back.

Chelsea edging possession but Porto looking a little more dangerous in attack.

No big chances yet though.

19'

Mount sees the run of James and switches play but Porto shotstopper Marchesin is alert to the danger and catches.

Chelsea are trying to pick out James at every opportunity.

16'

Porto are on top all of a sudden and knocking it around brilliantly with Chelsea chasing shadows. Sanusi almost gets a volley away too but kicks air in the end.

The Porto press is causing trouble and Chelsea can't afford to be knocking it around the back so casually.

13'

James has seen so much of the ball for Chelsea but Porto are so tight at the back and for all their efforts Chelsea have not even had a glimpse at a gap.

Up the other end, Corona gets a cross in but Mendy collects.

CHANCE!

Diaz forces a smart block from Christensen as Porto have their first moments inside the Chelsea box. THEN! Uribe goes for goal 25 yards out and his effort on the half volley is less than a yard over with Mendy beaten.

10'

Porto get weird with a free-kick from 35 yards, playing it backwards to their last defender and then to the 'keeper.

Very strange. Stick it in the box!

Chelsea are straight back on the ball and have had the better of things these first ten minutes.

8'

Chelsea win their first corner...

Mount plays a short one-two with James but they end up almost back in their own half...wasted.

PSG have taken the lead against Bayern in the other quarter-final first leg tonight. Kylian Mbappe makes it 1-0.

5'

Havertz finds himself in possession and even gets a few touches inside the Porto box but there's no Chelsea players to get on the end of his driven cross.

The home side (sort of) have barely had a touch yet and Chelsea are looking nifty down the left.

3'

Chelsea knock it about early on and straight away look for the wings backs with James and Chilwell on the ball.

But Porto are doing some early pressing and Mendy is forced into a dodgy clearance inside 80 seconds.

1'

ANTHEMS OVER. HYPE ESTABLISHED.

LET'S GO!

19:57

THREE MINUTE WARNING

19:54

PORTO NO PUSHOVERS

Remember, Porto knocked out Italian giants Juventus to get to the quarter-finals. They're not messing about.

They've also got Pepe at the back who won this competition three times with Real Madrid. And as we all know, he's not exactly easy going.

So, there's that...

19:51

GET WARM

Some leap from Azpilicueta that...

19:45

ALL GOOD THINGS...

Of course, Tuchel has already proved himself a record breaker going 14 matches unbeaten as Blues boss after taking over from Frank Lampard.

That exploded last weekend as they lost to 19th-placed West Brom, 5-2, at home...

They need to bounce back because Porto are probably a bit better than West Brom to be honest.

RESPONSE REQUIRED.

19:38

FOOTSTEPS

19:30

RUDIGER STARTS

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel admitted that Antonio Rudiger's midweek bust up with Kepa Arrizabalaga was no small thing, but the German defender starts this one anyway.

Andreas Christensen and Ben Chilwell are also back in the side as the Blues play it safe at the back.

Mason Mount ant Kai Havertz start at the expense of the lightweight duo of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech.

19:25

PORTO CHANGES

The Portuguese side beat Santa Clara on the weekend but have mixed things up tonight. A familiar face to Toon fans, Chancel Mbemba, returns to the starting XI, alongside Jesus Corona, Zaidu Sanusi and former Liverpool man Marko Grujic.

Suspended Sergio Oliveira and Medhi Taremi are the big absentees for Chelsea's opponents.

PORTO VS CHELSEA

Good evening all and welcome to our live-text coverage of Porto vs Chelsea, the first leg of this Champions League quarter-final at the neutral Estadio Ramon Sanchez in Seville!

It was a mixed bag for English sides last night as Manchester City scraped an advantage in a 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund while Liverpool salvaged an away goal in a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid.

Chelsea, however, lost 5-2 to West Brom at home last week, so it's anybody's guess how they'll get on tonight.

Find out here with all the build-up, hype and highlights ahead of kick-off at 8pm.
