Dembele does well to keep his composure when played in by Messi and pick out a pass instead of snatching at a shot from an impossible angle, but Navas is equal to Busquets’ shot.

Barcelona think they should have a penalty as Navas clatters into Dest, but the ref is having none of it and books De Jong for the strength of the protests. VAR doesn’t overrule him.

Mingueza was on a final warning and would have been up directly against Mbappe on the counter-attack all evening, so the decision has been taken, wisely to replace him. Barca just can’t afford to go down to ten men if they are to have any chance of an unlikely comeback.

Dembele again is the extra man, but his shot is straight into the grateful arms of Navas. The Frenchman could have had a hat-trick already tonight, and that was the best chance of the lot.

Dembele again surges clear for Barcelona as they look to respond immediately, but the ball runs away from him slightly as he cuts back onto his right foot inside the box and the chance goes begging.
