- End of 2nd Half
FT: Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea. Benzema ensures Real head to Chelsea for the second leg level, but Pulisic's early strike means the Londoners have that away goal.
- OffKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
- OnRodrygoReal Madrid
REAL CHANGE: Rodrygo on for Benzema.
The game has been halted as Rudiger receives treatment following a knock on the far left. He looks okay and we'll continue. Three minutes added.
- Yellow cardÁlvaro OdriozolaReal Madrid
Kroos has a pop from range. It takes a deflection and sizzles narrowly wide. Varane meets the resulting corner with a diving header but can't guide it on target.
Real have bossed the ball in the latter part of this but Chelsea have still looked very dangerous on the break. We've had so few chances in this second period, but there's still time for one game-clinching moment here.
Ziyech gets the big build up from the free kick but clips it over the wall and straight into the hands of Courtois.
- Yellow cardRaphaël VaraneReal Madrid
Real's shift to a back four almost immediately backfires. Varane is caught out and concedes a free kick 22 yards out, to the far right of centre.
- OffDani CarvajalReal Madrid
- OnÁlvaro OdriozolaReal Madrid
REAL CHANGE: Odriozola on for Carvajal.
- OffMarceloReal Madrid
- OnMarco AsensioReal Madrid
REAL CHANGE: Asensio on for Marcelo.
Chelsea make a meal of clearing a left-wing corner. Benzema sees a shot cannon off a defender and bounce around the box. Marcelo takes aim from distance but another block denies the home side.
Ziyech jinks down the left and rolls a lovely ball across the six-yard box, but Havertz can't catch up to get on the end of it.
Great feet from Mount on the edge of the box. He fakes to shoot one way, spins on to his other foot but sees his 20-yard strike well blocked by Varane.

- Yellow cardMarceloReal Madrid
Changes galore are incoming! Meanwhile, Marcelo is the latest player to be booked.
Will Zizou turn to the former Chelsea man in the latter stages of this contest?
- Yellow cardToni KroosReal Madrid
Real have done a good job of trying to manage the game since that spell of Chelsea pressure. They've been able to slow the tempo down and probe for an opening.
Superb reading of the game from Thiago Silva. He steps across and mps up neatly after Modric had teased ball in-behind for Vinicius to gallop after.
Real saunter forward for their first real attack of the second period. Inevitably it is Benzema leading it. He cuts in from the left but shakes his head in dismay as he blazes off target.
Chelsea have roared out of the traps. They've been camped in the Real half since the restart. Werner has a sniff on the right side of the area but sees his low strike well blocked.
Star man so far?
- 2nd Half
KICK OFF! Chelsea get us back underway.
- End of 1st Half
HT: Real 1-1 Chelsea.
Chelsea raid down the right but Werner takes the wrong option as he shifts it further away from goal before lashing a shot well wide of the near post.
STAT: Real Madrid have won the first leg of nine of their last 10 Champions League knockout ties (L1), scoring at least two goals in eight of these games. This is their first semi-final since 2017-18, winning the first leg 2-1 that year away at Bayern Munich.
The rain is bucketing down now. It seems to have helped Real while Chelsea's threat has faded a bit.
- Yellow cardChristian PulisicChelsea
Thiago Silva is allowed to venture into acres of space and thinks 'why not?' He lets fly from 30 yards and sees his pile-driver hit a defender and arrow just wide of Courtois' right-hand post.
VIDEO: Brilliant Benzema.
That is a sickener for Tuchel and Co. They've been by far the superior team but have been punished for switching off and not making the most of some good situations at the other end to extend their lead.
- GoalKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
GOAL! The hosts level out of the blue. Benzema's touch, spin and volley comes after a couple of flick-ons caught Chelsea out from a short corner routine.
- Yellow cardVinícius JúniorReal Madrid
Vinicius Junior booked for a sliding tackle on Pulisic. Perhaps a tad harsh.
Chilwell skews a right-foot shot wide of target after Kante had surged free down the right and cut the ball across the face of the area.
CLOSE! Real finally offer a response. Benzema turns into space 25 yards out and rockets in a wonderful shot that clips the far post.
VIDEO: Pulisic grabs the opener!
This is what it means when your team scores a goal in a CL semi final.
You have to say Chelsea deserve that. A bright opening from Tuchel's men.
- GoalChristian PulisicChelsea
GOAL! Pulisic shows great composure to take down Rudiger's ball over the top, round the keeper and lash a firm shot beyond the defender's on the line. Real's defence were caught cold by a simple run from deep there.
It's been a very good couple of minutes for the visitors. Real's defence has been creaking.
SAVE! Courtois pulls off a top save with his feet to deny Werner after the German met Mount's knockdown from a Pulisic cross with a first-time effort from close range.
That was sloppy! Kante is too casual as Chelsea look to play it out from the back. It's seized upon by Vinicius but his low ball into the middle is well read and cut out. That could have been a disaster for the Blues.
Chelsea have an overload on deep in Real territory. It's worked to the right but despite a decent delivery to the far post, the Blues can't quite manufacture the opening for a shot at goal.
DID YOU KNOW? Chelsea have only lost the first leg in one of their seven previous Champions League semi-finals (W2 D4). That was a 3-1 defeat to Monaco in 2003-04. The first legs of their last six semi-finals - all in which they were unbeaten - have seen just four goals scored (three for, one conceded).
Two top coaches - but who will prevail tonight? Not much being given away in these very early stages.
- 1st Half
KICK OFF! Real Madrid get this first leg up and running.
This is your five-minute warning. Grab a beer/brew or pass the time checking out N'Golo Kante doing Kante-style things in this video.
HIgh praise for Zidane.
TUCHEL v ZIDANE: The men in the respective dugouts are two of only 24 managers to have managed 15 or more Champions League matches in the knockout stages. Zidane has the joint-best win ratio (alongside Luis Enrique) of these managers (67 per cent - P27 W18). Tuchel has the seventh-best percentage (53 per cent - P15 W8). However, Tuchel is unbeaten in four battles with Zizou, winning one and drawing three.
CAN MENDY KEEP OUT MADRID AND TIE A RECORD? Edouard Mendy has conceded just two goals in his first nine Champions League matches. The record for the fewest goals shipped in a goalkeeper's first 10 matches is two, which was set by Keylor Navas between 2014 and 2016 for Real Madrid.
Christian Pulisic: “It’s key to really try to enjoy the moment. Champions League semi-finals don’t come around every day. It’s an amazing time for us. Personally I’ve been looking forward to this game for weeks. It’s a big moment, there are nerves and a lot of preparation involved. The key is going to be having a really good start to the match, showing our energy and showing we’re ready for this competition.”
Thomas Tuchel: “We deserve to be in the semi-final, just like Real Madrid. And we don't deserve it because of political decisions, or influence, or size, or nice shirts: we deserve it because we came a long way."
OPINION: Hazard will be keen to 'prove himself' for Real Madrid as they take on Chelsea, while the absence of Sergio Ramos will not matter.
Zinedine Zidane on former Chelsea star Eden Hazard: “He was very comfortable when he played the other day and that was the most important thing - he didn't feel any pain. He's ready to go now. We're happy he's available because he's going to bring a lot to the team."
Chelsea are unchanged from the 1-0 win at West Ham which means Cesar Azpilicueta retains his place in the side ahead of Reece James. It is the first time Thomas Tuchel has stuck with the same team since taking charge. Meanwhile, Real make three changes from the weekend draw with Real Betis. Marcelo, Toni Kroos and Vinicius Junior start in a 3-5-2 system.
