Real Madrid dominated possession in this one and had their chances in the first half. But a truly terrible performance after half-time saw Shakhtar carve them open twice on the break. The Champions League could well be Real Madrid-less come February.

- End of 2nd Half
And it's over!
Real Madrid have lost this one 2-0 and will need a favour from Inter Milan either tonight, or next week, if they are to get out of Group B.
The flag goes up as Real Madrid punt it long and there's only 20 seconds left of injury time.
We're two minutes into four added minutes. No sign of a remakarable comeback.
It didn't have the same outcome. A goal kick and another wasted chance to create something.
Toni Kroos is standing over a free kick in a not disimilar position to the one from which he scored for Germany against Sweden in the last World Cup.
That suckerpunch has left Real Madrid totally bereft of ideas. Shakhtar are heading second in this group and Real Madrid are looking at their first-ever Champions League group stage exit.
- GoalManor SolomonShakhtar Donetsk
This is game over now and Real Madrid are heading to defeat. Soloman picks up the ball as Shakhtar break and runs a full 60 yards unchallenged, cuts onto his right foot and rifles the ball into the bottom corner.
Asensio's shot from distance is deflected behind. Isco tries a bicycle kick from the resulting corner but it's deemed dangerous play.
Time has worn on and Real Madrid have made a triple change. No sign of any increase in intensity or creativity to force an equaliser though.
Real Madrid go short with a corner and Mendy has a right-footed dig from distance. It's right at Trubin but he makes yet another save.
Shakhtar look the better team and the more likely to score. Tete tries to bend one into the top corner but Courtois is more than equal to it.
Less than 20 minutes left here and there's no sign of Zidane turning to the likes of Isco or Vinicius Junior on the bench.
SO CLOSE TO 2-0!
Tete's pull back finds Kovalenko on the penalty spot but Varane flies across to make the block and deny to the hosts a second goal. That could have been curtains...
Real Madrid have lacked a cutting edge all season but they're going to have to find one here if they are to dig themselves out of this hole. Lose this and qualification for the last 16 is out of their hands...
Shakhtar stand and wait for a foul after Asensio dispossesses Dodo. It doesn't come, and the Span winger crosses but Vitao is there to hack it clear.
Varane meets Kroos' free kick and heads it goalwards but Trubin makes the save. Not enough power there.
- GoalDentinhoShakhtar Donetsk
Shakhtar lead! The hosts counter well with Marlos, who feeds Kovalenko. Mendy makes the interception but neither he nor Varane follow it up and Dentinho is there to capitalise. We have an interesting game on our hands now...
Shakhtar are attacking with much more intent. Taison's quick feet beat Varane and Courtois has to get down well to save his powerful, low shot. The Belgian keeper has hardly had anything to do so far.
Benzema shifts the ball onto his left foot and has a dig from distance and Trubin makes an easy save.
Shakhtar attack well for the first time in an age, with Taison playing a fine ball to Matvyenko but Vazquez gets across to make a fine tackle to block the cut back.
And we're back! Real Madrid attack down the right from the kick off but Rodrygo fouls his marker and it's a free kick to the hosts.
- End of 1st Half
And that's half-time! Real Madrid and Shakhtar are all square at the break in Ukraine. The visitors have struck the woodwork and Trubin has made a fine save to deny Asensio but the two teams are level. Will they break the deadlock after the break?
Madrid's dominance is unquestionable but their final ball has been lacking. Again Benzema breaks through the lines of defence but the pass to him is poor and it runs through to Trubin.
It's beginning to snow in the Ukrainian capital...
There's only five minutes left of this half left and Real Madrid will be very annoyed if they don't get a goal before the break.
Dentinho tries his luck from a narrow angle but it's an easy save for Courtois.
Shakhtar are getting a bit sloppy. Matvyenko plays a terrible pass across his own box and Asensio, whose shot is charged down.
Trubin has certainly been the busier goalkeeper. Asensio is on the end of some fine build-up play and shoots with venom but Trubin sticks out a hand to palm it wide. You feel like it's only a matter of time until Madrid get their goal now.
Odegaard's corner is met by Nacho, whose header is weak and is easily saved.
A good touch from Odegaard sets up Asensio but he Norwegian isn't alert to the one-two and Shakhtar get it clear.
The saga of Junior Moraes has come to an end. Dentinho IS coming on for him and he's frustrated as he limps off. But he was moving gingerly and it's probably for the best.
Benzema has already got in behind once and Modric almost sets him up for a second time. But there's just too much on it and the ball runs through to the keeper.
Rodrygo is clam as you like under pressure. He gets back to intercept a threatening ball from Tete, lobbing the man he was marking with his first touch.
Salvation for Shakhtar. Moraes, with Dentinho changing and ready to come on, makes a recovery and rejoins the field. If he scores, it'll be fate...
This is not good for Shakhtar. Varane caught Moraes on the thigh and he'll have to go off. Dentinho is set to replace him but the hosts will be gutted to lose their main goal threat.
- Yellow cardRaphaël VaraneReal Madrid
We've got our first booking and it's Varane who's had his name taken. Nacho's pass to the Frenchman is poor and he takes out Moraes, picking up a yellow card for his troubles.
Vazquez and Modric combine well and the Croat releases Benzema, who shoots early, but Trubin beats it away.
Madrid look to be combining well. A cheeky back heel from Benzema completes a one-two with Lucas Vazquez, who takes out Kovalenko in a 50-50.
Marlos keeps the ball well on the edge of the Madrid box and feeds Taison, who has a dig but it flies over Courtois' cross bar. A good move and an early sighter for the playmaker.
Benzema with some quick feet on the edge of the box squares it to Asensio, whose short range clip beats Trubin but comes off the woodwork and behind for a corner. He should have scored.
Taison clips in a good ball to Moraes, who clearly controls it with his hand and is rightly flagged.
It's a positive start for Real Madrid, but with a big asterisk. Rodrygo gets down the right well and tries to cross but kicks the turf as he does so. He looks to be in some discomfort.
- 1st Half
And we're off! How will Real Madrid fare in Ukraine?
The teams are out, we've had our dose of the Champions League anthem and we're almost ready to go!
So a win would take Real Madrid through from the group stage yet again - they have done so every year since 1997-98.
Shakhtar need a win, really. Borussia Monchengladbach sit top of this challenging group with two games left to play and a win would lift Shakhtar above Real Madrid, level on points with the Spanish champions but ahead on head-to-head.
Zinedine Zidane's men lost their encounter with Ukrainians in the Spanish capital. Borussia Monchengladbach took a point off them in the next game but back to back wins over Inter Milan have put the competition's most successful side back in driving seat for qualification.
