On which point, there are similarities between what United are now doing and what Thomas Tuchel is doing at Chelsea. No doubt he drills and all that, but ultimately, he's got three centre-backs, two midfielders in front, and wing-backs who are defenders (usually). That solidity allows his front players to get on with it, and while they don't score look as threatening as they should, they're scoring often enough to be European champions and league leaders.

Man United's new formation, then. On the one hand, a system that means you can only pick two of Cavani, Ronaldo, Rashford, Sancho and Greenwood is a hate crime. But on the other, it gives their centre-backs safety in numbers, which also means McTominay no longer has to play as a number six, but can drive forward with and without the ball as a number eight. That missing number six has been a big problem for United, but those three centre-backs, all of whom are good passers and good in possession, mitigate it. On top of that, no centre-back partnerships enjoy playing against two centre-forwards, never mind two of the quality United have, so while the team looks a forward light, you'd expect them to score at least once in every game and they're now much more likely to keep a clean sheet.

That game is now over; Chelsea win 1-0 and need one more point to confirm their participation in the knockout stages.

Elsewhere, Hakim Ziyech's goal looks like being enough for Chelsea in Malmo - they lead 1-0 with just injury-time to play.

Those United changes make sense. Atalanta play a high line, so Rashford's pace will be a big threat, and he's also in fine form with three goals in four appearances - not games - since coming back from injury. He'll hope to be served by Pogba's long-passing ability, but I imagine Pogba is also playing because he's out of the next two league games, so can't play for United again until the 23rd of this month. On top of that, having three centre-backs behind him will allow him some freedom to go about his business in the way he does for France.

United, meanwhile, stick to the 3-4-1-2 formation that worked so nicely at Spurs - though Spurs were compliant opposition. Lindelof has a minor knock, so his place goes to Bailly, while Pogba replaces Fred and Rashford is in for Cavani.

Atalanta will have hoped to get back some of the players who missed their defeat at Old Trafford, but have to make do with just Demiral, who played really well then got injured and went off. Zapata, their top socrer, also plays - he was good off the bench at OT and replaces Muriel.

Let's have some teams...

This is a huge game for both sides. Currently, United top the group, and will feel that a point here - or one away to Villarreal in their final game - will see them through, as they'll expect to deal with Young Boys in between times. But Atalanta are in a decent position too, and have the speed and cohesion to cause problems, as they did two weeks ago. My suspicion is that United's good players are good enough to get them a result here, but equally, I'd not be surprised if Atalanta picked holes in what's been a very leaky defence.
