It's all over. Two goals from Darwin Nunez and a Rafa Silva strike pile even further pressure on Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman as Benfica beat the La Liga giants 3-0. Barca have now lost their first two Champions League group stage games this season and the disappointing defeat will do little to appease the growing section of Barca fans who want to see Koeman sacked.

THREE minutes of added time. Barcelona want this over. Three goals conceded. 10 men. Zero shots on target. Who could blame them? This has been a horrendous evening if you are a Barcelona fan and their manager Ronald Koeman will surely be departing in the next few days.
SUB! Mingueza is on for Sergi Roberto.
RED CARD! Garcia has been shown a second yellow for pulling down Ramos. He has been sent off!! This night is somehow getting even worse for Barcelona.
- OffDarwin NúñezBenfica
- OnGonçalo RamosBenfica
SUBS! Nunez leaves the pitch to a standing ovation. He comes off for Ramos. Pizzi is on for Rafa Silva.
YELLOW! For Nico for a late tackled on Mario. A reminder that Barcelona have still not had a shot on target this evening.
It would not be a huge surprise if Benfica got another goal here. Barcelona have left themselves completely open at the back all evening and Nunez wants a hat-trick.
This has been a terrible night for Barcelona. Should the score remain the same, this result will mean Barcelona go bottom of Group E on -6 goal difference and four points off second-placed Benfica with four group games to go.
- Goal by penaltyDarwin NúñezBenfica
GOAL!!! Nunez gets his second of the night from the penalty spot, tucking the ball into the bottom corner, and Benfica are 3-0 up!!!
- Yellow cardSergiño DestFC Barcelona
VAR ALERT!! IT'S A PENALTY FOR BENFICA! Appeals for a Benfica penalty as Taarabt's header comes off Dest's flailing right arm. The referee Orsato thought little of it initially but we've gone to VAR. After a quick glance at the monitor he gives the penalty and Dest is booked!!
- OffRoman YaremchukBenfica
- OnAdel TaarabtBenfica
SUBS! Grimaldo makes way for Almeida and former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Adel Taarabt, aged 32, is on for Yaremchuk.
- Yellow cardJulian WeiglBenfica
YELLOW! For Weigl for pulling down Gavi.
- OffLuuk de JongFC Barcelona
- OnAnsu FatiFC Barcelona
WIDE! Benfica come forward again as Mario dispossesses Gonzalez. Yaremchuk has a shot but he hits it well off target.
- GoalRafa SilvaBenfica
GOAL!!! BENFICA HAVE A SECOND!!! Rafa Silva extends Benfica's lead! Mario and Yaremchuk play a neat one-two and Mario's shot is parried by Ter Stegen into the path of Rafa, who uses the outside of his right foot to turn the ball home! It's even more problems for Barcelona!
- OffLuuk de JongFC Barcelona
- OnAnsu FatiFC Barcelona
THREE SUBS! Three changes by Ronald Koeman as he looks to get his side back into this. Gonzalez, Fati and Coutinho come on for Busquets, L. de Jong and Pedri.
CRUCIAL BLOCK! A cross to the far post finds Roberto, but Grimaldo makes a fine diving block to prevent the Barca wingback from equalising!
Fati looks set to come on. He came on at the weekend after a ten month injury lay-off and scored in Barcelona's 3-0 win over Levante. Can Barca's 18-year-old forward, who took the number 10 shirt off Lionel Messi in the summer, make the difference? The clock is ticking...
- Yellow cardÁlex GrimaldoBenfica
Yaremchuk attempts to dink the ball into Gilberto's path but Araujo can scramble the ball behind for a Benfica corner.
Barcelona are enjoying more of the ball but are doing little with it. Benfica look happy to soak it all up for now.
OFFSIDE! A free-kick into the box squared across the goalmouth by Araujo is blocked on the line as F. de Jong bundles it towards goal before Benfica clear! However, Araujo was offside anyway.
- Yellow cardRafa SilvaBenfica
ANOTHER YELLOW! This time it is awarded to Rafa after he slides in late on Pedri.
- Yellow cardEric GarcíaFC Barcelona
YELLOW! For Garcia for breaking Rafa's stride. That was a cheap yellow card to pick up from the former Manchester City defender.
OFF THE POST! What on earth was Ter Stegen thinking! The German sprints miles out of his box to try and sweep up a long pass up the pitch, but Nunez comfortably gets there first and shoots... but it comes off the post! He probably should have scored that!
OFFSIDE! A long ball over the top finds Nunez and his shot is saved by Ter Stegen, but he was offside anyway. We had to wait a very long time for the linesman's flag to finally be raised.
Benfica have a free-kick and Mario takes it. His cross finds Verissimo but he nods over the bar.
SHOT! Otamendi has a long-range strike and he gets plenty of power behind it, but it is straight at Ter Stegen.
Roberto's cross into the box looking for Depay comes to nothing. Goal-kick.
- 2nd Half
We are back underway for the second half! All the pressure is on Barcelona now. Can they get back into this?
- End of 1st Half
That's the end of another frustrating 45 minutes for five-time European champions Barcelona. Benfica lead through Nunez's fine solo goal in the third minute. Second half updates coming up!
There are appeals for a Barcelona penalty as Depay goes down in the box, but referee Orsato waves away the protests.
TWO minutes of added time at the end of the first half.
- OffValentino LazaroBenfica
Nunez closes in on goal but instead of laying it off to either Silva or Yaremchuk he smashes his shot well over the bar. SUB! Gilberto is on for Lazaro.
There is a pause in play as Lazaro gets medical treatment for his knee. After a few moments he is back up on his feet and back on the pitch.
Otamendi heads away a long ball up to Gavi. Barcelona look static in the forward position with L. de Jong and Depay offering little in the way of invention right now.
Garcia has an audacious attempt from 35-yards out, but he fires it well wide. Benfica look good value for their lead at the moment and Ronald Koeman does not look a happy man on the touchline. Barcelona have looked disorganised at both ends of the pitch.
Dest's cross into the box deflects off Verissimo for a Barcelona corner. Memphis' ball in deceives Vlachodimos but Otamendi is there behind him to head behind.
- Yellow cardNicolás OtamendiBenfica
YELLOW! Otamendi, the former Manchester City defender, has been shown a yellow for appealing to the fourth official to look at VAR after Pique's last foul.
- OffGerard PiquéFC Barcelona
- OnPablo GaviFC Barcelona
SUB! Koeman makes a change and it is Pique who comes off for Gavi. Pique looked destined to get a second yellow. Umtiti and Lenglet are also on the bench this evening but Koeman has put his faith in the 17-year-old midfielder instead.
Araujo nudges Nunez and the Benfica forward goes down to ground inside the box. There's appeals from the home fans for a penalty but there was very little in it. Moments ago Pique committed yet another foul. He's in real danger of getting sent off soon.
WIDE AGAIN! A cross into the box is nodded down by F. de Jong to L. de Jong but he fires his shot wide!
Pedri's cross into the box is punched clear by Vlachodimos. Barcelona are applying heavier pressure now as we approach the half-hour mark.
WIDE! F. de Jong finds Depay who bursts in on goal ahead of his marker Lazaro, but he drags his shot from a very wide angle wide after it deflects off Verissimo. The corner driven into the box by Depay finds F. de Jong, but his first-time shot is blocked for another corner... which comes to nothing.
Weigl dispossesses de Jong and Barcelona's attacking move breaks down. Barcelona are looking slightly nervous and they will be fully aware of the backlash that will inevitably follow if they lose tonight. Back-to-back Champions League defeats in their opening two group games would not go down well with the Barcelona faithful.
Pique, who is already on a yellow, drags down Yaremchuk. The Barcelona defender will need to be very careful for the rest of the game.
Rafa pulls Busquets down to the ground right in front of the referee, but he is not bothering with dishing out a yellow card and simply awards a free-kick to Barcelona.
SHOT! Pedri has a go from just outside the box but his fierce drive looking for the bottom corner skids wide of Vlachodimos' right post.
Dest's cross ball finds Roberto, but his attempted floated header back into the danger area is caught easily by Vlachodimos.
Barcelona are playing a lot higher up the pitch now and have had 60 per cent possession, but Benfica are proving a threat on the break. This has been a very open, entertaining 15 minutes!
Here is that goal from Darwin Nunez if you are viewing this live blog from the UK
- Yellow cardGerard PiquéFC Barcelona
YELLOW! Already for Pique for a late, unnecessary sliding challenge on Yaremchuk.
OFFSIDE! Pedri plays a defence splitting through ball to Frenkie de Jong and he's clear on goal. He elects to lay it off to Luuk de Jong instead of shoot himself and the latter gets it all wrong as his effort is blocked! Fortunately for Luuk, Frenkie was offside.
Depay thought he won a corner off Verissimo but it comes off the Dutchman and it's out for a goal-kick. Benfica will be delighted with their start.
Barcelona finally retain some possession and Dest's cross into the box is headed clear by Grimaldo.
BIG CHANCE! Grimaldo plays an incisive through ball into the path of Yaremchuk and he fires on goal from close range, but Ter Stegen can get down and claim it! Barcelona are looking shellshocked!
- GoalDarwin NúñezBenfica
GOAL!!! NUNEZ GIVES BENFICA THE LEAD! Nunez's first ever Champions League goal comes just after the two minute mark and it's a disastrous start for Ronald Koeman's side. Pedri is dispossessed on the halfway line and a long ball up the pitch finds Nunez on the left flank. He drives into the box and evades Garcia before placing his shot past Ter Stegen into the bottom corner! It's Nunez's fifth goal of the season. A dream start for Benfica!
- 1st Half
Here we go... referee Daniele Orsato gets us underway under the lights in Lisbon!
The teams are out on the pitch at the Estadio da Luz and the Champions League anthem is underway! Kick-off is just moments away!
A significant milestone in the career of Frenkie De Jong, 24, has been reached.
Barcelona have not lost in La Liga after six matches played this season, but they have drawn three of them against Athletic Bilbao, Granada and Cadiz. Their Champions League group stage opener ended in a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich earlier this month. Robert Lewandowski (2) and Thomas Muller scored that night.
Benfica have been in scintillating form so far this season, winning all seven of their league games this campaign. Benfica had to battle through two qualifying rounds to reach the Champions League group stages and drew their opening group game 0-0 at Dynamo Kiev.
It's not likely to be an easy evening for Barcelona with Benfica boasting a strong home record in Europe. Barcelona will be desperate to get a win on the board after they were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Bayern Munich at the Nou Camp in their opening group game on September 14.
Benfica are unchanged from the team that beat Vitoria Guimaraes SC 3-1 on Saturday. Roman Yaremchuk, who scored twice at the weekend, will lead the line again with Rafa and Darwin Nunez on the flanks.
It's FOUR changes to the Barcelona team that beat Levante 3-0 on Sunday afternoon and also a likely formation switch from a 4-2-3-1 to a 3-4-3. Ronald Araujo, Sergi Roberto, Frenkie De Jong and Pedri come in for Oscar Mingueza, Nico Gonzalez, Gavi and Philippe Coutinho.
Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen, Garcia, Pique, Araujo, Dest, Busquets, De Jong, Pedri, Roberto, De Jong, Depay
Subs: Puig, Fati, Demir, Neto, Coutinho, Lenglet, Mingueza, Umtiti, Pena, Gonzalez, Gavi
Benfica XI: Vlachomidos, Verissimo, Otamendi, Vertonghen, Grimaldo, Lazaro, Weigl, Mario, Silva, Yaremchuk, Nunez
Subs: Gilberto, Everton, Meite, Pinho, Pizzi, Radonjjic, Almeida, Taarabt, Leite, Fernandes, Ramos, Morato
