So Real Madrid will face Gremio in Sunday's final, but they were given a scare this evening. Al Jazira gave everything they had, causing problems on the counter attack, but in the end they were just too open at the back. Real Madrid's attackers took advantage of that, even if it took them over 30 attempts.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Al Jazira 1-2 Real Madrid. REAL MADRID ARE INTO THE FINAL!
The final of the Club World Cup will take place on Saturday. Of course, Real Madrid are the favourites to win that and retain their crown, but this was a close shave for the European champions.
Just three minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
As for the VAR, I'm not sure what this game proves. There was gross miscommincation over its use. There was confusion when it was used for two goals. That has to improve before roll outs.
There have been questions over Bale's place at Real Madrid in recent weeks, but on this basis they still depend on him to bring something different to their frontline. What an impact.
BALE ALMOST SCORES AGAIN! Now the Welshman tries an acrobatic scissor kick, forcing the goalkeeper into a good stop. That would have been a great goal to kill this game.
This match has been absolutely wild. There have been disallowed goals, VAR controversies, missed chances, everything. But in the end, Real Madrid's quality has shone through.
Real Madrid have had 32 shots on goal over the course of this game. 32. They have been extremely wasteful in the final third, but as things stand they will be moving through to the final.
He did it earlier in the season in a game against Fuenlabrada, when Real Madrid were on the brink of a humiliaing result, and Bale looks to have done it again with that goal. His first touch!
- GoalGareth BaleReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Al Jazira 1 Real Madrid 2 (81 mins - Gareth Bale). He's done it again! Bale has scored with his first touch after being brought off the bench. The ball was cut back to the Welsh winger and he had the simple task of finishing into he gaping net from close range.
- OffKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
- OnGareth BaleReal Madrid
Indeed, Bale has been brought on. He replaces Benzema, so there will still be no BBC.
Well, it looks like Bale is getting ready to come on for Real Madrid. The Welsh winger has made a habit of coming on to resuce his team. Can he do it again? They're depending on it.
However, the fact that they have had so many chances suggests that they will have at least one or two more opportunities before the full time whistle blows on this one.
Just 15 minutes left to be played in this one and extra time is starting to loom on the horizon. Real Madrid look bemused that they haven't been able to take the lead. They've had so many chances.
ANOTHER BREAK! Real Madrid get caught on the break once again, but this time Nacho is on hand to punt the ball away from underneath his own crossbar. Very, very open.
Is there a winner in this game for either of these two teams before the full time whistle? Real Madrid are creating the majority of the chances, but Al Jazira are dangerous on the counter.
- OffMateo KovacicReal Madrid
- OnLucas VázquezReal Madrid
And the second change as well. As expected, it's Vazquez.
- OffIscoReal Madrid
- OnMarco AsensioReal Madrid
Indeed, there's the first change from Zidane and it's Asensio who comes on for the Europeans.
OFF THE POST AGAIN! Benzema has struck the woodwork for a second time. He completely scuffed his shot, but the ball spins up and on to the base of the post. Wow. That was close to a fluke.
- Yellow cardMohammed Ali AyedAl Jazira
There's a yellow card and the Al Jazira can have no real complaints about that.
It looks like Real Madrid might be about to make a couple changes. Vazquez is down on the touchline and is that Asensio with him? Zidane looking to give his team so more width?
- OffKhalifa AlhammadiAl Jazira
- OnEissa Saqer Al OtaibaAl Jazira
The Gulf side make a change as they look to go for the win themselves.
OFF THE POST! Inches away from being the goal to finally put Real Madrid ahead. This time it falls to Benzema, but he can only rattle the upright with his low shot. Getting closer.
Does Zidane need to make some changes here? Real Madrid are on top, but that has been the case for the vast majority of the match and still they are tied at 1-1. Need a breakthrough.
Al Jazira are still having joy on the rapid counter attack. Mabkhout is the one taking them down the pitch, close to the Real Madrid goal. He keeps getting railroaded, though.
BENZEMA SHOULD HAVE PASSED! Oh dear. Ronaldo is furious with his Real Madrid teammate. Benzema was clean through and had the Portuguese square with an open goal. He took the shot himself. Saved.
It feels like a matter of time before Real Madrid score again, here. But then we thought that in the first half as well when they had 17 shots. Al Jazira are just about holding on.
BENZEMA GOES CLOSE! The cross from the left wing by Marcelo looked set to find the Real Madrid number nine in the box, but Benzema just couldn't make the connection needed.
Having said that, Al Jazira are still causing problems on the rapid counter attack. Real Madrid seem to be throwing so many players forward that it's actually causing them issues.
This is much better from Real Madrid now. The stuffing was knocked out of them after the opening goal, but they look focused again and are putting the Al Jazira goal under pressure.
Ronaldo looked to be just onside, but why wasn't the VAR used then? It was marginal. Surely Al Jazira had a case for it to be used that the Real Madrid equaliser was a legit one?
- GoalCristiano RonaldoReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Al Jazira 1 Real Madrid 1 (52 mins - Cristiano Ronaldo). Ronaldo has bagged the equaliser for Real Madrid and this one will definitely stand! That was his NINTH attempt of the evening, but he fires into the far corner of the Al Jazira net from inside the penalty area.

The goalkeeper finally has to be subbed off. He played magnificently in the first half.
Of course, VAR is meant to be adopted in a number of leagues and competitions around the world next season, but there's still a long way to go before it's ready. This has been a farce.
WAIT, NO! The goal has been disallowed using VAR. This is incredible. They had kicked off and everything before anyone realised that the goal had been chalked off. He was offside!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Al Jazira 2 (46 mins - Mbarek Boussafa ) Real Madrid 0. What a start to the second half by Al Jazira! Real Madrid were on the attack, but they are caught out on the counter attack, with Mabkhout squaring it to Boussoufa for the tap in.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! Al Jazira lead Real Madrid 1-0.

- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Al Jazira 1-0 Real Madrid. A remarkable first half. Real Madrid have been well on top, but they have been thwarted by Khaseif, with Al Jazira making the most of their one chance.
I'm not really sure what Real Madrid should and could be doing differently, other than finishing the chances they have created. They have been well on top in the opening 45 minutes.
Real Madrid look extremely frustrated. They have dominated possession, had 17 shots on goal, many of their clearcut, and have had a goal wrongly disallowed. But they are behind.
Well, how about that? Al Jazira have hardly brokekn out of their own half in this first half, but as things stand they will head into the half time interval with a narrow 1-0 lead. Sensational.
- GoalRomarinhoAl Jazira
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Al Jazira 1 (40 mins - Romainho) Real Madrid 0. Incredible! Real Madrid have completely dominated this first half, they have had 17 shots on goal, but it's Al Jazira who break down the pitch, with Romarinho sliding a finish underneath Navas! The Gulf side have the lead.
Real Madrid have had 17 shots in this first half. How haven't they found the net with one of them? This has been to be one of the best goalkeeping displays I have ever seen from Khaseif.
There's still a sense that Khaseif is carrying an injury here. He has kept his side in the game in this first half, but he looks to have picked up a knock. The sub keeper is warming up, still.
Real Madrid are still pressing for this opening. It has been relentless pressure from the Spanish and European champions, but they have still to find the back of the net. Incredible.
That's a very peculiar decision by the referee. Benzema was indeed offside, but he didn't look to touch the ball. So why was it disallowed for that? VAR causing yet more confusion.
GOAL DISALLOWED! Well, after much deliberation Real Madrid have had their goal chalked off. Nobody is really sure why. Was it for an offside? Against who, though? What's happening?
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Al Jazira 0 Real Madrid 1 (32 mins - Casemiro). Real Madrid have taken the lead, with Casemiro heading home from a cross into the box. However, did he push the defender before heading it into the far corner? Remember we have VAR here.
There are signs of frustration starting to build among the Real Madrid players. They're not happy with how this is going and now they feel some of the decisions are gong against them too.
Isco is now involving himself in the game more. The Real Madrid playmaker has been quiet in the opening 30 minutes, but he's now taking it upon himself to pull the strings.
LONG RANGE OVER! We know that Casemiro has that in his locker, but the strike from the Brazilian midfielder was always rising and drifts over the bar without bothering the keeper.
Ronaldo is now shooting on sight. The Portuguese forward has been in good form recently, scoring twice in the win over Sevilla at the weekend. He's desperate to find the net.
This has been a very entertaining half of football. Real Madrid have come out all guns blazing, but amazingly they have yet to find the net. The Al Jazira goalkeeper has been on fire.
IT WON'T COUNT! Benzema finally beats Khaseif with a header, but Ronaldo is penalised for a push on a defender and the referee decides to rule out the goal. Still 0-0.
JUST WIDE! Now Al Jazira come springing out on the counter attack, with Mabkhout firing a shot towards goal, but the ball flashes just past the far post. That would have been some goal.
VARANE HEADER! This time it's the French centre back who gets on the end of a cross into the Al Jazira penalty area, but his header is straight at Khaseif. That must be his 10th save already.
Mabkhout is the main man for Al Jazira. He is the star striker for the UAE national team and his goalscoring record in Gulf and Asian football is quite sensational. Can he cause Real problems?
How haven't Real Madrid scored yet? They have had at leat five exceptional chances to take the lead, yet they have been denied at every turn by the Al Jazira goalkeeper. What a game for him.
ANOTHER BRILLIANT SAVE! This is getting silly now. Khaseif gets up from his injury and pulls off another great stop to deny Benzema from finding the opener for Real Madrid.
It looks Khaseif is going to continue here. The sub goalkeeper is still warming up on the touchline. The Gulf side are going to see how their first choice number one holds out here.
INJURY! Well, this would be a real blow to Al Jazira. Khaseif, who has been playing out of his skin in these opening 15 minutes, now looks to have picked up an injury. Will he have to come off?
Of course, Real Madrid come into this game on the back of an impressive 5-0 home win over Sevilla. That could prove to be a real watershed moment for the Spanish and European champions.
FROM A TIGHT ANGLE! Ronaldo is played in behind the opposition defence, but from a tight angle Khaseif comes off his line to smother the shot. They just can't get past him!
This has been an exellent start to the match by Real Madrid, but they will be pretty baffled that they haven't been able to find the lead. The goalkeeper continues to thwart them.
Ten Cate spoke before the game about taking the lead from Mourinho and parking the bus this evening. Well his Al Jazira side look pretty open so far. Maybe they forgot to park it?
RONALDO AGAIN! The Al Jazira defence looks so open. Benzema puts this one on a plate for the Real Madrid number seven, but the defender managed to distract him and the keeper saved.
ON TO THE BAR! Ronaldo comes close once again to opening the scoring. His header was a good one, but the Al Jazira goalkeeper did well to push it up on to the crossbar. Getting closer.
HEADER IS SAVED! The cross from the right side was a good one, with Ronaldo getting in behind the Al Jazira defensive line, but Khaseif makes the save down to hisleft. Decent effort.
RONALDO WIDE! There's the first sight of goal for the Real Madrid number seven, taking aim from outside the opposition box. But he lashes his effort high and wide of the target.
So there's no doubting who the favourites are for this game. Real Madrid are looking to defend their Club World Cup championship from last season. They have put out a strong lineup.
