Paraguay knocked Brazil out of the Copa America on penalties for the second successive tournament, setting up a semi-final clash against Argentina.
Brazil crashed out of the 2011 competition with a penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay, and history repeated itself - as Dunga’s side failed to improve on that showing, lacking creativity and invention in the final third with Neymar missing through suspension.
However, the Selecao took the lead after just 15 minutes, with Robinho finishing Dani Alves’ cross into the box from the right wing. But Paraguay restored parity after the break, with Derlis Gonzalez converting from the spot after a blatant handball inside the area by Thiago Silva.

And Paraguay - who picked up their display in the second half - claimed victory and a place in the semi-finals in the penalty shootout - with Everton Ribeiro and Douglas Costa missing from the 12 yard spot as Brazil crashed out.
KEY EVENTS
15’ GOAL! Brazil 1 Paraguay 0: The Selecao have the lead, and it's Robinho! Alves gets down the right wing to cross into the box, with Firmino leaving it for his team-mate to finish.

34’ RIGHT ACROSS THE FACE OF GOAL! Santa Cruz has runners on either side but opts for a shot from the edge of the box himself. But he drags his effort wide of the far post.
52’ SAVE AT THE NEAR POST! Jefferson is called upon to make the stop to deny Paraguay from drawing level. Gonzalez angled a free-kick effort towards the near post, but he couldn't catch out the Brazil keeper.
69’ PENALTY KICK TO PARAGUAY! Silva has been penalised for a handball inside the penalty area, and Paraguay will have the chance to level from the spot.
71’ GOAL! Brazil 1 Paraguay 1: We are back on level terms! Gonzalez steps up and sends a right-footed effort into the corner of the net.

PENALTY MISSED! Brazil 1-1 Paraguay - what a terrible penalty! Ribeiro fooled the keeper but pulled his shot wide of the target. He tried to be too clever.
PENALTY MISSED! Brazil 2-4 Paraguay - he's skied it! Costa sends his right-footed shot over the bar and Brazil are on the brink.

KEY STATS
For the first time in Copa America history the 4 semi-finalists have managers from the same country - Jorge Sampaoli, Ricardo Gareca, Tata Martino and Ramon Angel Díaz are all from Argentina.
The last eight countries to take the first the penalty in a shootout (in any FIFA tournament) were eliminated.
TALKING POINT - It has never been clearer: this Brazil team isn’t very good
There is perhaps not another team that relies as much on one player as Brazil does on Neymar. Without the Barcelona forward in the team, the Selecao have crumbled at two separate international tournaments. They might not have suffered humiliation like they did against Germany last summer, but in many ways Brazil were just as hopeless in this tournament - lacking any real spirit, invention or identity without Neymar leading the line. Without him Brazil just aren’t very good.
MAN OF THE MATCH - Derlis Gonzalez
The FC Basel man took a while to warm to this game, but then so did the rest of this team. Gonzalez really came on to a performance in the second half, providing Paraguay with an outlet on the rapid counter attack. He scored the penalty to get them back on level terms, and scored in the shootout as well. He was Paraguay’s star man.
