- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Brazil 2-0 Argentina
Messi is charging around the pitch trying to chase down the ball, but surely he knows this is over. This will be another disappointing major tournament defeat for La Albiceleste.
This match is surely as good as over now. Barring a miracle, Brazil will take their place in the Copa America final where they will face one of either Chile (defending champions) or Peru.
There will be four minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
Is there time for Argentina to give themselves a lifeline? The second goal knocked the stuffing out of them. For a spell at the start of the second half an equaliser looked inevitable.
- OffNicolás TagliaficoArgentina
- OnPaulo DybalaArgentina
Dybala comes on for the final few minutes. Can he make a difference?
Was that a penalty? There appeared to be a push on Otamendi as he went for a header in the opposition box. The Argentina players argued for it, but the referee doesn't go to VAR.
- Yellow cardAllanBrazil
Allan was shown a yellow card for, well... I'm not entirely sure. Time wasting?
Another injury! Brazil might be in the driving seat, but this win could come at a cost. Willian is the latest player to have picked up an injury. Might he have to come off here?
Time is running out for Argentina here. That change from Brazil means they will finish this match in a 4-3-3 shape, with Allan shoring up the midfield. Can Argentina break them down?
- OffGabriel JesusBrazil
Jesus hobbles off having picked up a slight knock and is replaced by Allan.
This was Brazil's second goal...
Into the wall! The Brazilian supporters celebrate like they have scored a goal! Messi just couldn't get his freekick up and over the wall, with his strike deflecting away for a corner which comes to nothing.
Argentina have been awarded a freekick right on the edge of the Brazil penalty area. You know what that means...
Scaloni was actually booked in the midst of that scuffle between Martinez and about three Brazilian players. The referee had a word with the Argentina manager who looks frustrated.
Martinez living dangerously! The young striker has lost his cool. Martinez jumped in after a foul on Coutinho and is angrily arguing in the face of the referee and the Brazil players. He's on a yellow!
What have Argentina got left in the tank? What does Messi have left to offer his team? Surely we're going to see La Albiceleste go al out in the final 15 minutes of this semi final now.
That goal is rough on Argentina. They have been much better in the second half, they have struck the woodwork twice, but now they have a mountain to climb. They are 2-0 with under 20 minutes left.
- GoalRoberto FirminoBrazil
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Brazil 2 (71 mins - Roberto Firmino) Argentina 0. It's a second goal for Brazil! It came against the run of play. Brazil caught out Argentina, who were caught up the pitch. Jesus burst into the box, cut back the pass and Firmino sent the finish into the back of the empty net! Brazil on their way?
It feels like we're just waiting for an Argentina equaliser. Brazil have really dropped out of the match since the restart. What is their plan at the moment? They are offering very little.
- OffRodrigo De PaulArgentina
- OnGiovani Lo CelsoArgentina
There's one of the changes we thought Scaloni might make. De Paul comes off and on comes Lo Celso.
Alisson saves from Messi! The whistles ring around the stadium as Messi prepares to take a freekick 20 yards out. His effort was on target, but Alisson makes the save and holds on to the ball.
There's the expected change and Miranda comes on for the injured Marquinhos.
Brazil are down to 10 men at the moment as they prepare the change for the injured Marquinhos. It looks like it's going to be Miranda who comes on as his replacement!
Marquinhos injury! Brazil are going to have to make a change here. Marquinhos has sat down on the turf and he's not bluffing. He's already walking over to the touchline. Not what Tite wanted.
How are Argentina not level in this match? They have struck the woodwork twice and have been well on top since the start of the second half. They also had a good spell in the first half!
- OnÁngel Di MaríaArgentina
Scaloni makes his first change of the night and Acuna comes off to be replaced by Di Maria. Experience.
- Yellow cardLautaro MartínezArgentina
It's another yellow card, this time for Martinez. He fouled Sandro as he dribbled through the midfield.
- Yellow cardJuan FoythArgentina
Before that Messi chance, there was a yellow card for Foyth for a foul on Willian.
OFF THE POST! Argentina hit the woodwork once again and this time it's Messi! He took the shot on from a tight angle and smashes a half-volley against the near post! Then he plays a low cross right across the face of goal!
Coutinho should do better! Jesus wriggled through the Argentinean backline, with the ball falling to Coutinho just inside penalty area. But the playmaker scooped his shot over the bar. That was a huge chance!
The Brazilian supporters inside the stadium are trying to pick up their team. Argentina have been on top since the restart, although there is still a volatility to their performance.
The frontline of Martinez, Aguero and Messi is working. Does that mean we won't see either Dybala or Lo Celso in this second half? Could they come on as a fourth attacker?
This has been a fiery start to the second half by La Albiceleste. They realise what is on the line here and are making an effort to make sure they don't suffer another major tournament exit.
De Paul... over the bar! Argentina are peppering the Brazil goal with a number of shots at the start of this second half. The ball was played back to De Paul, but he blazes over the target!
Martinez on target! The in-form Argentina striker takes the shot from just outside the Brazilian penalty area, but Alisson read it all the way, makes the diving save and holds on to it.
Aguero wasn't far away! Tagliafico got the cross into the penalty area and Aguero was waiting for the delivery, but the ball flashes just over the striker's head and Alisson can gather.
PICTURE: Jesus' goal is still the difference for Brazil.
Tite has made a change at the start of the second half and Willian comes on for Everton.
- 2nd Half
The second half of this Copa America semi final is under way! Brazil have a 1-0 lead over Argentina.

- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Brazil 1-0 Argentina. Jesus' goal is the difference between the two teams. Brazil have been the better side, but Argentina have struck the woodwork and aren't out of this just yet.
Argentina have enjoyed a good spell for the last 15 minutes or so. You get the feeling they might come to rue not making the most of that spell. They didn't take their opportunities.
Two minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the first half.
Shot on target! A Brazil corner kick is cleared to the edge of the box, where Arthur controls and gets an effort away! However, his shot is straight at Armani in the Argentina goal.
- Yellow cardDani AlvesBrazil
... and Alves is also booked for his part. That seemed to be a fair outcome.
- Yellow cardMarcos AcuñaArgentina
A little scuffle breaks out. Acuna is booked for his trouble...
Argentina are playing at a very high tempo whenever they have the ball. That is giving Brazil some problems. Tagliafico is joining the attack as an additional winger. Going for it.
So it's taken five games at this Copa America, but Messi has finally turned up. That isn't to say this has been his best match so far, but he is at leas involving himself. Seeing loads of the ball.
Agueroooooooo... no! Another chance for Argentina to grab an equaliser! Aguero was released into the box, he had time and space, but from a tight angle his shot is charged down by Marquinhos.
Both Alisson and Alves seem to be fine to continue, at least for the time being. Brazil are knocking the ball around, but Argentina are looking to hit out on the counter attack when they win it back.
Messi has picked things up since the Brazil goal. It was his freekick delivery that created the opportunity for Aguero to head off the crossbar. He is driving his team forward from deep.
Now Alves is down! The right back has hit the turf and is writhing around in pain. This would be a blow to Brazil if he has to come off due to injury. He has been brilliant in this first half.
Alisson injury! This doesn't look good for the Brazil and Liverpool goalkeeper. It seems he may have picked up an injury in trying to save Aguero's header off the crossbar. He's down.
Well, that was close. It goes without saying that is the closest Argentina have come to finding the back of the net in this first half. Did Aguero mean to loop that header over the goalkeeper?
Off the crossbar! Inches away from an equaliser for Argentina! Aguero flicked on a freekick with his head, the ball looped over Alisson, but came back off the unside of the bar, bounced on the line and was cleared!
Martinez takes aim! That was a nice passing move between Messi and Martinez, with the forward taking aim from distance. But Silva makes the block before it could reach Alisson.
Brazil are now taking the opportunity to pass the ball around the back, slowing down the tempo of the game. They are in full control at the moment. Argentina are struggling badly.
That's disappointing from Messi. He took the freekick about 35 yards, crossing the ball into the Brazilian penalty area. But it was far too close to Alisson, who makes the easy catch.
Here's the goal...
This is not a good period for Argentina. They look shaken by that opening Brazil goal and it's the Selecao who look the more likely of the two teams to score the next goal.
What a performance this has been from Alves in the opening exchanges of this match. Even at 36, the full back is so crucial to the way Brazil play, bombing up and down the right.
That goal came just as it seemed that Argentina had found their footing in this match. However, Brazil have so much quality in attack. And this is how good they are without Neymar!
It must be said, that was a wonderful goal from Brazil. The move contained a nutmeg from Coutinho and a dummy and surging run by Alves. Tite will be very happy with what he saw.
What a roar after that goal! The Brazilian supporters have found their voice. What an atmosphere. Brazil have the advantage against their greatest rivals and their fans are enjoying themselves.
- GoalGabriel JesusBrazil
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Brazil 1 (19 mins - Gabriel Jesus) Argentina 0. The long wait is over! Jesus has his goal at a major tournament for Brazil and it's a big one! It was great play by Alves and Firmino down the right, with the latter putting the chance on a plate for Jesus with a low pass into the six yard box. Jesus finishes.
Just a reminder that Jesus has still to score a single goal in a major tournament for Brazil. He missed a penalty earlier in this tournament as well. That will surely be playing on his mind.
Chance for Jesus! Foyth overplayed it at the back, allowing Brazil to play through Jesus. But after checking back inside the Man City forward sees his effort blocked by the Argentina defence.
I just get the feeling that Argentina are beginning to get a handle on things. They have weathered the early storm and are now seeing more of the ball. Messi is getting involved.
What a strike! Wow! That would have been a stunner. Paredes lines up a shot from way out, maybe 30 yards out, and he caught it! The ball flashes just inches over the bar! Alisson was worried about that!
Jesus is now over on the touchline receiving some treatment from the Brazilian medical staff. Argentina have subjected the Manchester City forward to some rough treatment early on.
This hasn't been a high quality start to the match, but we should have expected that. These matches are always pretty scrappy and that has been the case in the opening 10 minutes.
Argentina have pretty much everyone back defending against the early Brazilian pressure at the moment. Aguero makes a sliced clearance back in his own box for a freekick.
The Argentina played rushed the referee after that yellow card. They were making the argument that Jesus made too much of the contact. However, that wasn't the first foul on the Brazilian.
- Yellow cardNicolás TagliaficoArgentina
There's the first yellow card of the match and it's Tagliafico who is booked for a foul on Jesus.
Messi hasn't looked happy at this Copa America so far. In fact, I'm not entirely sure that he has had a touch of the ball in these opening six minutes. Brazil are well on top at the moment.
Brazil also have a breakout star. Everton has been excellent for the Selecao at this tournament. He started as a peripheral figure, but has since forced his way into the starting lineup.
Martinez has been the breakout star for Argentina at this Copa America. He has dragged La Albiceleste through a couple matches, keeping his place in the team ahead of Dybala and Lo Celso.
On the basis of the first few minutes in Belo Horizonte, this is going to be a long evening for Argentina. They have barely got out of their own half as Brazil have taken a grip of things early on.
This is huge. Is this the biggest fixture in international football? Brazil certainly look to hold the upper hand. They are the stronger of the two teams, but rivalries have a habit of producing funny results.
- 1st Half
The match has started! It's Brazil against Argentina in the semi finals of the 2019 Copa America!
Okay, here we go. About to get started in this Copa America semi final. Kick off is just moments away.
This is the first time these two teams have faced each other in a Copa America match in 12 years! The anticipation!
The two teams are out on the pitch for the national anthems. Messi has a furrowed brow. Concentrated? Or stressed?
Not long until kick off at the Mineirao now. This promises to be the showpiece event of the whole Copa America, even more so than the final. It's one of the biggest rivalries in world football.
Brazil haven't been all that impressive at this tournament either. They have had trouble scoring the first goal. When that first goal comes, though, they tend to follow up with one or two more.
Argentina have been less than impressive at this tournament, but they recorded back-to-back wins over Qatar and Venezuela to make it this far. This will be a big step up for them, though.
I'm Graham Ruthven and you can catch me on Twitter ahead of the game to let me know your thoughts. Will Lionel Messi show up? Will Brazil flatten Argentina? Tweet me!
Sandro starts! Tite has made one change to his Brazil team for this Copa America semi final. Out goes Filipe and in comes Sandro in his place. Otherwise, it's the same side that started against Paraguay.
This can't be allowed!
