Vinicius Junior marked his first start at the Santiago Bernabeu with a goal as Real Madrid smashed six past Melilla to move into the last 16 of the Copa del Rey with a 10-1 aggregate win.
Real Madrid held a commanding 4-0 lead from the first leg, played over a month ago, meaning Santiago Solari could rest many of his key players for the game. Marco Asensio and Isco were handed starts, with Vinicius, Mariano Diaz, Javi Sanchez, Keylor Navas and Jesus Vallejo all coming into the side.
It took 33 minutes for the hosts to find the breakthrough, with Asensio driving into the box and finishing into the far corner of the net unopposed, but after that the floodgates opened for Real Madrid, who scored five more through Isco, Vinicius, Sanchez and another for Asensio.
Melilla scored a late penalty to remember their trip to the Santiago Bernabeu by, but other than that this was a show of force from Real Madrid, who made full use of their squad depth to rotate and progress into the next round of the competition with aplomb.

TALKING POINT - Did Javi Sanchez give Real Madrid fans a glimpse of the future?

Twenty-one-year-old Sanchez is already the captain of Real Madrid’s Castilla side and this performance hinted that the young centre-back might be ready to make the step up to the senior team. Compared to Sergio Ramos, this was a commanding display from Sanchez, who marked his debut with a well-taken goal. Might Solari might be tempted to use him more over the busy winter period?

MAN OF THE MATCH - Marco Asensio (Real Madrid)

Asensio and Isco have found game time hard to come by in recent weeks. Indeed, the two players have been peripheral figures for Real Madrid under Solari, but both made the most of this opportunity to show their manager what they are capable of. Asensio was the standout performer on the pitch, bagging a brace and contributing a couple of assists as Real Madrid smashed six past their opponents. He might have contributed more had Vinicius made more of his chances.

KEY MOMENTS

33’ GOAL! Real Madrid 1-0 Melilla: Well, that was an easy goal for Real Madrid and it's Asensio who grabs it. Melilla just kept backing off and backing off and that allowed Asensio to drive all the way from the centre circle into the box, curling a finish into the back of the net.
35’ GOAL! Real Madrid 2-0 Melilla: Asensio grabs his second goal in three minutes, but that one was all about Vinicius. He broke the ankles of the Melilla defender, found Asensio free in the box with the cut back and he calmly finished into the back of the net.
39’ GOAL! Real Madrid 3-0 Melilla: This is getting quite ugly for the lower league side. Sanchez gets on the end of a fantastic pass over the top from Asensio and the youngster, on his debut for Real Madrid, finishes off the underside of the bar. Great goal.
48’ GOAL! Real Madrid 4-0 Melilla: I think that's what they call a 'Golazo!' What a strike from Isco. He takes control of the ball the best part of 25 yards out and he curls a right-footed strike right into the top corner of the net. There was nothing Luis could do about that.
75’ GOAL! Real Madrid 5-0 Melilla: There's the goal Vinicius has been desperate for! There was a great deal of luck involved, with the Brazilian bundling his way through the defence and in the end his shot is deflected into the back of the net on the rebound.
80’ PENALTY KICK TO MELILLA! The away side will have a chance to score a goal. Yacine draws the spot kick with some nice footwork.
81’ GOAL! Real Madrid 5-1 Melilla: Melilla have a goal to remember their trip to the Santiago Bernabeu by! Having won the spot kick, it's Yacine that steps up to the mark and finds the back of the Real Madrid net. Of course, that's nothing more than a consolation goal.
83’ GOAL! Real Madrid 6-1 Melilla: Another goal for Isco! That's two for the afternoon for the playmaker. Real Madrid send bodies forward on the counter, with the ball played to Isco inside the box. The playmaker lashes a low finish into the back of the net. Nice finish.
