Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid - Copa Del Rey live

The Bilbao man does really well to get past Casemiro, before hitting a low shot towards the near post corner. It does agonisingly wide and into the side netting.

Real Madrid take a clever quick free-kick in the centre of the pitch, with Kroos pinging the ball out wide for Rodrygo. The ball eventually goes out for a corner.

In that exchange, the Athletic fans sound their annoyance around San Mames with boos, as Vini Jr. is involved in an off the ball scuffle with a Bilbao player. The referee says nothing doing.

The corner then comes to nothing.

The Basque side are well up for this one, and have had some good half-chances in the last five minutes of the game! Real Madrid have struggled to get the ball out of their own half in the last few exchanges.

Nico Williams attacks down the right, and initially Eder Militao gets to his man to stop the danger. However, it it half-hearted from the Brazilian, and the ball is just about kept in.

Nico latches on to it, before drilling in a low cross. The ricochet eventually falls to an Athletic man, but their powerful effort is deflected behind for a corner.

Yuri bombs forward for Athletic on the left flank, before getting a ball into the box.

The initial cross is blocked, but the rebound falls to the feet of Dani Garcia on the edge of the area. He hits a powerful effort towards the top corner, but Courtois is there to tip it behind!

Athletic win a corner on the right hand side, but it is a poor delivery and it is easily cleared.

The visitors have had a lot more of the ball, and are trying to attack a lot down the left hand side.

However, Athletic then have a half-chance of their own, as Inaki Williams is put in by a ball over the top from midfield, but Courtois comes off his line to clear the danger.

Los Blancos have come out of the traps quick. Alaba, who is playing at his more natural position at left-back, advanced down the byline, but his cross goes well over everyone and out for a throw on the far side touchline.

We're underway here at San Mames, which as always is looking splendid this evening in Bilbao, with the Athletic fans in full voice.

Real Madrid have been eliminated at this stage of the competition three times since 2016.

Their opponents, meanwhile, have reached the last two finals of the Copa Del Rey, albeit suffering defeat on both occasions.

Real Madrid have been in terrific form of late, winning five of their last six games in all competitions.

However, other teams have shown that there are weaknesses in the Los Blancos side, as Carlo Ancelotti's men just about snatched a late equaliser to draw 2-2 against lowly Elche in their last La Liga fixture.

The last time the two sides met was in Super Cup before the international break, with Los Blancos coming out on top 2-0 at the King Fahd International Stadium in Saudi Arabia.

Athletic also come into this Copa Del Rey clash in good form, having won six of their last nine in all competitions.
