Gashi goes agonisingly close to equaliser

With four minutes left Albania substitute striker Shkelzen Gashi beat the off-side trap as he raced onto a long ball to be free and clear on a one-on-one with Swiss keeper Yann Sommer. He had plenty of time and space to pick his spot and put in a solid shot, but Sommer held his ground well and was able to push it over the bar.

Swiss agonisingly close to second goal

Switzerland striker Haris Seferovic is put clear by substitute Breel Embolo, but the Swiss forward is thwarted by Albania goalie Etrit Berisha who rushes off his line to produce a superb block in the one-on-one. Albania still in it, despite having played half an hour with a one-man disadvantage.

Albania skipper Cana sent off for terrible handball

Albania lost their captain Lorik Cana for a second bookable offence nine minutes before half-time. Can slipped at the edge of the box, and with Haris Seferovic of Switzerland ready to pounce he reached out to stop the ball with his hand. Few arguments followed what was an obvious professional foul that might have merited a straight red had Cana not already been on a booking.

Sadiku misses glorious chance to level

Albania's number 10 Armando Sadiku missed a gilt-edged chance at the half-hour mark as he was through in a one-on-one against Yann Sommer in the Swiss goal - but failed to slot his effort past the on-rushing goalie.

Schar finds the net early on

Hoffenheim defender Fabian Schar scored to give Switzerland an early lead against Albania at Euro 2016. Schar got ahead of Albania goalkeeper Etrit Berisha as players jostled to meet a fifth-minute corner, and nodded home with ease to open the scoring.

Xhaka brothers go head-to-head

New Arsenal signing Granit Xhaka was named in the line-up for Switzerland, while as expected his brother Taulant Xhaka made the starting XI for Albania. It's the first time that two brothers have gone up against each other in the Euro 2016 finals.
