A classy striker's finish from Lainer gives Austria the lead. They had started the match slowly and were clearly nervous, but the opener will relieve tension. It's only the second goal from open play they have scored at the Euros.

GOAL! Austria 1-0 North Macedonia (Stefan Lainer): Austria take the lead! It's a lovely finish from Lainer, he gets free at the far post to meet Sabitzer's deep cross, keeping himself onside, and volleys it home from the angle. Great goal.

A loose ball in midfield sees North Macedonia give up possession. Kalajdzic hasn't many team mates in support and therefore shooting is the best option even if it is a long way out. He sends it straight at a defender.
14'
Pandev is on the deck but the referee says no foul and Austria play on. The Austrians have had plenty of the ball but there's no obvious sign that they can break down this stubborn North Macedonia defence.
10'
Elmas is North Macedonia's star player and he tries to release Pandev with a clever through ball but he can't quite get it under his control.
8'
Angelovski will be delighted with how his North Macedonia side have started, they are winning many of the duels so far and are enjoying a spell of possession right now.
5'
North Macedonia break quickly and for a second it looks like they had opened up a 3-vs-2 attacking situation as Pandev switches it to Alioski on the left flank. Austria get players back quickly, however, and sweep up the low cross from the Leeds United defender.
3'
Alaba tries to pick out right wingback Lainer with a long diagonal pass but it lacks accuracy and North Macedonia have a goal-kick.
2'
Austria are playing in their dark away kit, North Macedonia in white. There are around 5,000 fans here from North Macedonia and it almost feels like a home game for them as they boo every Austria touch.

Kick-off! David Alaba appears to be playing at the heart of Austria's defence and not on the left wing as first thought. Anyway, Austria get us underway here in Bucharest.
16:58
Austria sing their national anthem with pride, too, and now it's almost time for kick-off.
16:55
A truly special occasion for the North Macedonia players as they make their way out onto the pitch. They're the lowest ranked side to have ever qualified for the tournament. And they're belting out their national anthem!
16:50
There are now just 10 minutes until kick-off here at Arena Nationala. Austria are favourites to win but North Macedonia's shock triumph in Germany during qualifying proved they are more than capable of an upset. It should be an entertaining game.
16:45
Pandev is making his 117th international appearance for North Macedonia today. The Genoa forward won the Champions League with Jose Mourinho's Inter back in 2010 and fired the winning goal to send his country to the Euros. He has hinted of retiring after the competition, so can he leave his mark?
16:40
Did you know? Franco Foda is statistically the most successful coach in Austria's history, having collected an average 2.03 points per game in his 33 competitive matches in charge.
16:35
Austria have never managed to progress from the group in the European Championships before. In fact, they have never won a game in the tournament. But with the likes of David Alaba and Marcel Sabitzer in their ranks, they must fancy themselves of getting to the last-16 at least this time.
16:30
Igor Angelovski, North Macedonia coach: "I think that many things have changed since those two [qualifying] matches, because they were played two years ago, if I am right, and during those two years our national team has grown from one match to the next and played better football, the players have made progress in each match, and this is completely different from the qualifiers."
16:25
Franco Foda, Austria coach: "We know about their strengths. They are good in transitions, on the break. We need to be careful in our build-up, we can’t give the ball up easily. We know we will have more possession and probably spend more time in their half, so we will need to move the ball quickly and stay alert defensively to avoid counters."
16:20
These sides are well known to each other having played twice in qualifying. Austria won both games to claim automatic entry to the finals, but North Macedonia went on to triumph in the playoffs to qualify for their first ever major tournament, beating Georgia.
16:15
Ezgjan Alioski starts at left wingback in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with 38-year-old Goran Pandev partnering Aleksandar Trajkovski - who has four goals in his last five games for his country - in attack.
16:10
Sasa Kalajdzic is given the nod to lead Austria's attack, with Marko Arnautovic named amongst the substitutes. David Alaba captains the side and plays on the left wing. Julian Baumgartlinger has passed a fitness test and starts in defence.
