  • End of 2nd Half

Hungary and Germany have drawn 2-2 in Munich so that means both of these teams are through. Drama over!

Coman goes down right on the corner of the box and Fernandes caught him there. That should be a foul, maybe even a penalty, VAR will check it.

There will be five minutes of added time.

You've got to love tournament football. This has been a great evening, and we're not done yet.

Cristiano Ronaldo trifft zum zweiten Mal per Elfmeter für Portugal

Didier Deschamps screams to push and it is France who are controlling the last few minutes of this match. A goal won't massively change things... unless Hungary also bag a late one.

Hungary losing the lead in Munich has completely changed this game, with Portugal not currently at risk, and willing to sit off a little bit more than they had been.

Ronaldo is absolutely clattered by Kimpembe. That's not a nice challenge and he's a tad fortunate it's just a yellow.

And that goal has come, meaning that Hungary are crashing out as it stands. Whistles echo around the stadium in Budapest as news filters through.

Just a reminder that Germany are going out and finishing bottom of this group as things stand, but one goal in either game could change everything.

Semedo has a knock here and Pepe gestures to the bench telling them to make the change. Portugal’s tournament is hanging in the balance.

It's not a stretch to say that this has been the most exciting night of the tournament so far. The referee has had a lot to do with that in this game, throwing around penalties like they're confetti, but it's making for stunning entertainment.

So as it stands, these two sides are finishing one-two in the group with Hungary edging out Germany.

Amazing! Pogba forces an absolute blinder of a save out of Patricio on to the woodwork, and the keeper gets straight back up to keep out the follow up. World-class football all round.

France pour forward and Benzema and Mbappe try and link up in the box. Portugal just about manage to scrape it clear.

What an amazing night this is proving to be. No sooner than Kai Havertz had equalised for Germany in Munich but Hungary retook the lead straight from the restart. Group F is delivering in spades.

PENALTY! It’s yet another spot-kick, and the decision stands for handball. Ronaldo from the spot again…

Ronaldo fails to control a lofted pass out on the left and the ball runs out of play. Portugal are rattled, they know they are in trouble.

And France rush through an enforced change.

Digne has only just come on but he's pulled a muscle here and heads straight off the field, absolutely furious that his body has let him down there.

That’s changed things completely. As it stands Portugal are going out, France will top the group, Germany will scrape through in third, and Hungary will go on to face England next up.

  • Karim Benzema

We’re back underway in Budapest and both teams have made changes.

  • End of 1st Half

The half-time whistle goes and this match is fascinatingly poised at the interval.

A France cross spears towards Mbappe at the back stick, but he gets in a tangle with Benzema and the opportunity dissipates.

VAR have checked that and the penalty stands, which is harsh for me.

PENALTY! Oh my, it’s another spot-kick. Portugal are absolutely furious as Mbappe is adjudged to have been brought down off the ball by Semedo.

Kimpembe fouls Ronaldo and Portugal have a chance to get a set-piece into the box again, but the delivery is poor on this occasion.

France are really rattled here, Portugal are exposing a few weaknesses and Didier Deschamps is raging in the dugout.

The sub-standard evening continues for France.

Portugal break and it’s Jota who tries to weave his way through the France defence. He doesn’t quite manage it though, and gets an earful from a furious Ronaldo for not playing the pass. He’s often angry, is Ronaldo, but he has a point this time.

That's changed how the group looks, and as it stands France are finishing second and heading for a meeting with England in the next round.

Portugal win a free-kick in a dangerous area and the thunder-clap starts in the stands. There are a lot of aerial threats in the box...

The intensity of this game is a step up from much of what we’ve seen in the group stage so far and a really good sign ahead of the round-of-16. These are two high-quality sides, make no mistake.

Varane doesn’t quite get enough on a headed clearance and succeeds only in clipping it on to Ronaldo. The Portugal skipper takes it on first time, on the volley. It would have been spectacular, but he drags his effort marginally wide.

Huge chance for Mbappe as he bursts in behind, beats the offside trap, and looks to curl a shot into the far top corner. But it’s well saved by the keeper.

France v Portugal

A huge roar goes around the stadium in Budapest as news filters through that Hungary have taken the lead against Germany in Munich. That result means that as it stands France, Portugal and Hungary are progressing from the group, in that order... but there's a long time to go yet.

It’s been a fascinating start to the game, with France looking repeatedly for Mbappe out on the left flank but Portugal looking pretty decent themselves in the centre of the park. We could be in a really good game here, certainly one of an extremely high standard.

Mbappe gets a first chance to stretch his legs and his sparkling runs ends in a corner for France. The travelling fans roar in appreciation, and although the set-piece comes to nothing it’s good for the forward to have got into the game so early.

It’s a first attempt on target for Ronaldo on the night, but an extremely comfortable save for Lloris. Warning signs for France though, that’s the second time they’ve been opened up.

Portugal have started brightly and Lloris has to be alert to come and grab a long ball ahead of the lively Renato Sanches.

  • 1st Half

And away we go. France, wearing all-white, get the game underway. Portugal are in their usual red and green.

Here come the players, greeted by a packed house in Budapest.

Here’s a reminder of those line-ups…

Portugal: Patrício; Semedo, Pepe, Dias, Guerreiro; Moutinho, Danilo; Bernardo Silva, Renato Sanches; Diogo Jota, Cristiano Ronaldo.

France: Lloris; Koundé, Varane, Kimpembe, L.Hernández; Kanté, Tolisso, Pogba; Griezmann, Mbappé, Benzema.

This game is, of course, a repeat of the Euro 2016 final. Portugal won that one 1-0 thanks to an Eder goal in extra-time. But that is Portugal’s only win in their last 13 meetings with the French national team in international football, losing 11 and drawing one of those meetings in a run that stretches back to 1975.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

Those permutations could get a bit complicated later on. Have your calculators at the ready!

On the field, a win or a draw for Germany would send them through and Hungary out. But if the Hungarians manage to pick up three points and Portugal also lose to France then it will come down to goal difference to decide which of Germany and Portugal finish bottom of the group.

If Portugal were to lose then all eyes will turn to Munich, where Germany face Hungary in the other game in this group.

Portugal could still finish in all four positions in the group this evening. A win or a draw would send them through to the knockout stages, although in which position is dependent on goal difference and the other result in the group.

Deschamps et Benzema lors de France - Allemagne

France lead the group thanks to their win over Germany and draw with Hungary, and Didier Deschamps’ side are guaranteed to go through to the knockout stages. What isn’t certain, however, is whether they will go through as group winners, runners up or in third position – which will have a huge bearing on the makeup of the latter stages of this tournament.

It’s the last set of group matches in this European Championship, and it’s a humdinger of an evening in store too. Group F always looked likely to be the pick of the pools at Euro 2020, and so it has proved, with all four teams still in the hunt going into the final matchday.

Good evening and welcome to live coverage of Portugal v France!
