  • End of 2nd Half

FULL TIME: Sweden 1-0 Slovakia

Hubocan attempts to get a shot away after a ball fell nicely to him just inside the box, but the block is made and that's another half-chance gone for Slovakia. Is that it over now?

Kucka gets on the end of a corner kick delivery into the Swedish penalty area, but he fouls Lindelof in challenging for the ball that will allow Sweden to relieve some pressure.

Five minutes of stoppage time gives Slovakia a chance to find a goal here. Sweden have some more defending to do. They have grown into the game, but have to see it out.

There will be five minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.

What do Slovakia have left in the tank? Can they create an opportunity to snatch a point from this match? It must be said, they have been very poor, especially in the second half.

We're now seeing the best of Isak. He is conducting almost everything in an attacking sense for Sweden who are pressing for a second goal to kill this game off as a contest.

CLAESSON... wide! It was that man Isak again causing all sorts of problems for the Slovakian defender. He is tackled in the box, but the ball falls to Claesson and his shot is deflected wide.

PENALTY KICK TO SWEDEN! Quaison is brought down in the area by Dubravka and the referee points to the spot!

PICTURE: Sweden getting closer

Ludwig Augustinsson, Sweden v Slovakia

That was such a brilliant piece of individual play from Isak. There has been very little quality in this match, but that was incredible. What a talent the Swedish striker is.

Brilliant from Isak! That would have been a great goal by the Swedish striker! He carried the ball from deep, cut inside on to his right foot and got the low shot away, but Dubravka saves!

Both teams have their sights set on the last 16. Sweden need three points to boost their chances, but Slovakia could hold out for a point after claiming three points in their first game against Poland.

Isak over the bar! The Real Sociedad striker gets on the end of a cross to the back post, but he could only guide his header over the crossbar! Isak is getting closer, though.

Isak has a shot deflected wide! This time it's the Swedish centre forward who has a go, this time from just outside the box, but Isak's shot takes a deflection and spins wide of the post.

Well, we've played over an hour in Saint-Petersburg and we finally have had some goalmouth action. Sweden are starting to take more risks. Surely they want three points here?

Over the bar! Another good chance for Sweden! Isak knocks a corner kick delivery back into the danger area, but Danielson heads over the crossbar when he should have hit the target!

Augustinsson is denied! Now Sweden come close to opening the scoring! Augustinsson gets on the end of the Larsson cross into the box, but Dubravka makes the save!

The flag was in fact up against Kucka, so that goal wouldn't have counted even if it had ended up in the back of the net. Nonetheless, that's the closest we have come to a goal.

KUCKA... saved! That's the best chance of the match so far! Kucka's run was a good one, he got his head on the end of a freekick delivery to the back post, but Olsen pushes over!

Sweden and Slovakia do battle

Forsberg is at least doing more to carry the ball forward at his feet, but the final product is still lacking from the Swedish player in the attacking third. More intent, though.

Larsson had the chance to play through Isak there, but his pass was slightly too heavy and the Real Sociedad striker has to retrieve the ball at the byline. That was an opportunity!

Forsberg is a very intelligent player and a key part of the way Sweden play. The RB Leipzig attacker will need to do more to provide support to Isak as the apex of the attack, though.

DUDA... over the bar! A decent chance for the Slovakian striker who created the space for himself on the edge of the box with some nice footwork, but he lashes over the target.

PICTURE: Still waiting for a goal.

Sweden v Slovakia, Tomas Hubocan

Larsson swings the corner kick into Lindelof, but Kucka gets his head on the ball to glance away from danger. This is a lot better from Sweden at the start of the second half.

This has been a good start to the second half by Sweden. They have won a couple corner kicks. Can they put Slovakia under some pressure? And can they make it count?

No changes made by either manager at the break. Does that suggest they are both happy with the way things are going? Surely we'll see more from Sweden in this second half?

  • 2nd Half

The second half is under way! It's still 0-0 between Sweden and Slovakia in this Euro 2020 Group E fixture!

HALF TIME: Sweden 0-0 Slovakia. No stoppage time at the end of the half and that reflects just how little action there has been in the opening 45 minutes here. A bit dull...

Hamsik gets under it! The pass was played back to the former Napoli midfielder, but he scoops his effort over the crossbar from 20 yards out. He's not happy about the pass to him.

Well that's something!

Mak is doing his best to make something happen for Slovakia. Sweden are keeping things organised and tight at the back. Will they come out and play in the second half?

Slovakia are currently enjoying their best spell of the match. They have the ball at their feet and are looking for a way through the Swedish backline, which is camped pretty deep.

PICTURE: It's been a bit of a scrap so far

Emil Forsberg of Sweden is closed down by Martin Koscelnik of Slovakia during the UEFA Euro 2020 Championship Group E match between Sweden and Slovakia at Saint Petersburg Stadium on June 18, 2021 in Saint Petersburg, Russia

Kucka gets the shot off! A corner kick delivery bounces around the Swedish penalty area a bit, but Kucka's shot is scuffed and the block is made before it could reach the goal.

Mak does well to win a corner kick under pressure down the left side. He was under pressure from two Swedish defenders, but managed to win a set piece for his side.

Nearly fell for Hamsik! A deflected cross from the right side fell into the path of the former Napoli playmaker, but he couldn't quite control it and the ball runs away for a goal kick.

Indeed, Sweden have also kept a clean sheet in five of their last seven European Championships, including qualifiers. They are a solid defensive unit.

The omens are good for Sweden this afternoon - they are undefeated in their last seven games in the European Championships, including qualifiers. Sweden are tough to break down.

Lindelof was very impressive against Spain. The central defender showed a different side to himself by organising and leading the Swedish defence as they held on for a goalless draw.

  • Kristoffer Olsson

Lindelof clears! The ball was played to the left channel where Duda had made a good run, but his first-time volley into the middle is cleared up into the air by Lindelof.

This is a good period of pressure from Slovakia who are now committing more men forward. Sweden having to do some defending for the first time in this opening half.

Slovakia are without Denis Vavro for this game after the defender tested positive for Covid-19 along with a staff member. Neither men have bad symptoms, but are in self-isolation.

Berg couldn't adjust! The ball into the Slovakian box from the left side from Augustinsson was a good one, but it was always going to be difficult for Berg to direct that on target.

It must be said, this has been a very cagey affair so far. It had been pondered whether Slovakia would go for Sweden knowing that they already have three points on the board. Not materialising that way.

It was only three years ago that Sweden reached the quarter finals of the World Cup, where they lost to England. There are signs of the country moving on from the age of Ibrahimovic.

Ibrahimovic announced his return from international duty before Euro 2020, but was then ruled out of the tournament through injury. Would we have improved Sweden’s team?

Sweden’s squad is the oldest at this summer’s tournament… and that’s without Zlatan Ibrahimovic being available. Indeed, the country needs to transition into a new generation.

There is a sense that Sweden are starting to grow into the game after a pretty cagey start from them, but they aren't doing enough to get Isak involved in their general play.

Indeed, if Berg had played against Spain with his shooting boots on he would have found the back of the net after an excellent assist by Isak. He gave Spain all sorts of problems.

Isak entered Euro 2020 on the back of an exceptional season for Real Sociedad in which he scored 16 La Liga goals. The young striker showed signs of good form in the performance against Spain.

PICTURE: No goals yet

Sweden v Slovakia, Alexander Isak

Much like Sweden, Slovakia have a strong defensive basis and structure. Both Dubravka and Skriniar were excellent in the win over Poland, with the latter scoring the winner.

Hamsik was excellent for Slovakia in the win against Poland. The experienced playmaker still has the ability to play at the top of the international game. Will he perform again here?

Berg is pulled up for a foul on Pekarik, but there didn't look to be much in that at all. The Swedish striker barely touched the Slovakian defender as they both challenged for a ball.

Sweden were defensively sound in their opening fixture against Spain, but they offered very little threat. That will have to change this afternoon. They have to get more support to Isak.

Kucka over the top! Hamsik gets the corner kick delivery into the box, Kucka gets up highest, but the Slovakian midfielder could only put his header over the top of the crossbar!

Lindelof gets away with one! The ball in from Hamsik was a decent one, but the Swedish centre back should have made the straightforward clearance. Instead, he allows it under his foot!

Dubravka makes the save! Larsson found himself in a good pocket of space 20 yards out, he got the left-footed shot away, it picked up a slight deflection, but the keeper makes the stop.

The Sweden team today!

Olsson goes through the back of Skriniar, who has been in the thick of the action early on, and Slovakia have the freekick. Sweden looking to get close to their opponents.

Good start to the match by Slovakia. They are the ones on the front foot in the early stages of the contest with Skriniar carrying the ball through the centre of the pitch.

What sort of match will we get this afternoon? While Slovakia started their Euro 2020 campaign with a shock victory over Poland, Sweden drew 0-0 against Spain.

Okay, here we go. We are about to get under way at the Gazprom Arena. Kick off is coming up shortly!

Looks like a pleasant afternoon in Saint-Petersburg. Glorious sunshine. Could get rather warm!

This writer says Sweden's national anthem wins the anthem battle before kick off. Sorry, Slovakia.

Not bad at all!

The two teams are out on to the pitch at the Gazprom Arena in Saint-Petersburg. Anthem time coming up! This has the potential to be a compelling and entertaining game.

Slovakia are the lowest-ranked team in Group E, but they sit top of the standings after their win over Poland. Spain were expected to be the big hitters, but they were less than impressive against Sweden.

Slovakia pulled off arguably the biggest surprise of the tournament so far by beating Poland 2-1 in their opening Euro 2020 fixture. Can they back that up with another win here?

Slovakia have momentum behind them!

No Swedish changes! Andersson has stuck with the same team that claimed a point in a 0-0 draw against Spain in Sweden's first Euro 2020 Group E fixture. More of the same?
