Scotland keep pushing fowards, and a melee in the box results in a Mcgregor shot hastily charged down on the edge. However, Russia exploit the Scots' lack of numbers at the back and Dzyuba slides in Erokhin whose shot is blocked on the line by O'Donnell.

82'

It's more 4-4-2 in the defensive phase for the Russians, with Golovin pushing up alongside Dzyuba to give the big man some support in the front press and feed off the hold up in the transitional phases.

81'

It's Russia's turn to build a rigid defensive block as the Scots desperately pour men forwards....

77'

Matt Phillips is stripped and ready for the Scots - Steve Clarke seeking an injection of pace and creativity from wide areas as the Tartan Army battle for an equaliser to keep the dream alive.

76'

Floated ball in from Fraser in towards Cooper, but the Leeds defender flicks it too high and Scotland remain chasing.

75'

Decent cross from O'Donnell, cleared by Semenov, and shanked over from distance by Mcgregor.

74'

WHAT A SAVE! A thunderbolt from Zhirkov, matched by a wonderful reflex save from Marshall!

72'

Blazed over and wide by the Wigan man on loan from Blackburn, and Scotland fans sit back down disapppointed.

POST! Dzyuba's sterling hold up play results in a dribbling Ozdoyev shot that clips the outside of the far post, and Artem Dzyuba fires over a header from the resulting corner. Still all Russia.

A jinking run from Fraser results in a Scotland corner, which is taken short, but nothing comes of it and Robertson shanks a cross out for a throw.

  • Stephen O'Donnell
Own-goalStephen O'DonnellScotlandGOAL! Fernandes marauds forward from right-back, sliding Golovin into the right channel, and he drills it across for Yuri Zhirkov and the former Chelsea man taps home. Scotland's offensive strategy lef them open there, and they've been made to pay. Russia deservedly lead at Hampden Park.

57'

Scotland free kick floated in by McGregor, but claimed by Guilherme. Golovin earns himself a talking to from the referee after clattering Fraser.

55'

Scotland are being more expressive in their approach now. O'Donnell and Robertson are flying forward on the overlap and the service and support for McBurnie is improving somewhat, but they've still got a way to go to win this match.

47'

CLOSE! Some desperate Mulgrew defending halts Golovin's goal-bound effort and Scotland hang on.

A controversial decision sees Scotland and Fraser denied a penalty, with Semenov clearly impeding Fraser who chased a backpass, but the referee says no and it's 1-1 at the interval.

  • Artem Dzyuba

GOAL! Russia are level, an unfortunate deflection off captain Robertson falls to Dzyuba, and the big man finishes with aplomb. Game on again, and richly deserved for the Russians.

37'

It's all Russia at present. Scotland are pinned in their own half, that 4-5-1 becoming ever more prominent. The long balls are out from both sides, and McBurnie is holding his own despite being completely isolated against the two centre-backs.

31'

CLOSE! A Fraser free-kick is floated in, begging for a flick, and Charlie Mulgrew stoops low but can only direct his effort into Guilherme's grateful gloves.

29'

Into the wall. Disappointing from the number 17.

28'

Bad news for the Scots - Sheffield United number 9 Oli McBurnie is moving gingerly after a hefty collison, and Callum McGregor chops down Golovin on the edge of the area to gift Russia a shooting chance. The Monaco man will take...

25'

More direct play in towards Dzyuba allows Ionov to whip an invitng ball in, but Zhirkov's header is tame and Marshall deals with it easily.

23'

It's clear to see that Steve Clarke's men are happy with what they've got; that 4-3-3 they started with has quickly become a rigid, deep 4-5-1, perhaps even moving to a 6-3-1 with the wingers dropping incredibly deep to track the marauding runs of Zhirkov, Golovin and Ionov.

22'

Aleksandr Golovin is really starting to orchestrate in the pockets now.... but what's this? I speak too soon! A disgusting piece of skill from Forrest wins the Scots a corner, but Guilherme claims authoritatively.

19'

We're 20 minutes into this game and there's already been a flurry of chances for either side. Scotland are taking the more relaxed possessive approach while the Russians are really going direct into Dzyuba's chest or onto the 6'5" front man's head.

17'
Russia

CLOSE! Beautiful floated ball over from Ozdoyev towards the tall figure of Dzyuba, who flicks a looping header towards the top corner but David Marshall stands firm. Russia pile on the pressure.

WIDE! It's a lively old start as Russia now go close as Scotland fail to clear, allowing Dzubya to head down for Zhirkov who hooks the ball over Marshall's bar, with the goalkeeper frantically scrambling.

KICK-OFF! This is the first time these two nations have faced each other competitively since qualifying for Euro 1996.

Who said European football was all a case of repeated fixtures? Both those games ended in 0-0 draws. Let's hope for more action this time around.

The match officials are from Greece and Scotland get us underway and immediately there's a whiff of a chance as John McGinn makes good progress and fires wide from the edge of the box!

CLARKE TARGETS SCALP

"It's been a long time since we turned over one of the big boys," Steve Clarke said ahead of kick-off.

"Russia, having been in the last eight of the last World Cup, are one of the bigger teams. We need a big win as a country."

The anthems are over and we're ready to go!

19:41

It is a massive night for Scotland. They know what's at stake.

The players are out on the pitch and we're almost set to go. It will be a decent challenge against Russia, who currently sit in second place.

Scotland, in fourth, must surely target a win to move level on points with their opponents.

The teams are out, and here come the national anthems!

GOOD EVENING!

Hello and welcome along to Eurosport's live minute-by-minute coverage of Scotland's crucial Euro 2020 qualifier against Russia.

Steve Clarke's side trail the second-place Russians by three points after four matches in Group I.

With the visit of Belgium on Monday followed by a trip to Moscow on October 10, they cannot afford another defeat this evening.
