The club’s official Twitter feed announced that the decision had been taken in interests of crowd safety without adding further comment.
The Mirror reported that the decision was taken after Koln “fans stormed the gates of the Emirates Stadium, and stewards feared they could end up being in the home section.”
Reuters cited reports that the sheer number of "the volume of fans around the stadium was preventing home supporters getting in, and therefore had necessitated the delay."
The 60-minute delay was announced inside the stadium with Arsenal "monitoring" the situation.
The BBC's Richard Conway would later post a video that appeared to show Koln fans fighting with stewards inside the ground.
