Brendan Rodger's men will be pleased to keep a clean sheet and avoid their Russian opponents taking an away goal back for the second leg.
The match had seemed to be heading to a 0-0 conclusion, by no means a bad result for Celtic, considered the underdogs for the tie.
However, a late goal from Callum McGregor means that Celtic now may consider themselves slight favourites going into the second leg in a fortnight's time.
After the match, Rodgers praised his side:
“It was a very good victory for us.
“I thought the performance was outstanding. We played with great maturity and capped it off with a fantastic goal. That was no more than we deserved.
“Right the way through the team, they were outstanding and with a lot of young players. It will be a tough game over there but we have given ourselves a great opportunity after tonight.”
