Boos from the home supporters at the full-time whistle as Everton lose yet again. The pressure increases on Ronald Koeman, with his side unable to increase their tally of one point in Group E. Their European hopes are hanging by a thread.

These sides will meet again on November 2, but this defeat means Everton are already on the verge of exiting the competition.
As it stands, Koeman will suffer yet another defeat. Everton have only won two of their last 11 games, and it doesn't get any easier this weekend as they host Arsenal on Sunday.
Keane hasn't been at all convincing in Everton's defence this evening, but he does well to win the ball from a Lyon cross, conceding a corner.
There will be FIVE minutes of added time to be played!
- OffMemphis DepayOlympique Lyonnais
- OnTanguy N'DombeleOlympique Lyonnais
Lyon make their third and final change as Tanguy NDombele replaces Depay.
Tete gets across to make a vital last-ditch tackle to take the ball from the feet of Calvert-Lewin just as the ball broke to the Everton forward. Lyon's goalkeeper Lopes is down injured now.
Everton have scored 60 per cent of their goals this season in minutes 75 to 90, and they are certainly piling on the pressure now.
But it is Lyon who go close now, Pickford bravely saving at the feet of substitute Ferri!
CALVERT-LEWIN GOES CLOSE!
The Everton forward powers a header towards goal from a Sandro cross, forcing Lopes into a really smart save.
Everton need someone, anyone, to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and drag them back into this tie.
Down at the other end, and Lookman has a half chance to level the scores. However, he sends a wild shot into the stands.
Traore's lovely first touch sets him up nicely for a shot, but his left-footed effort is curled well over the bar.
Lyon have settled well since re-taking the lead; it was a real sucker-punch for Everton.
It is a MASSIVE blow to Koeman, just as his side were looking likely to go on and win the game.
- GoalBertrand TraoréOlympique Lyonnais
GOAL - Lyon are ahead!
Cornet, only on as a substitute, delivers a dangerous cross to the near post and it is a stunning back-heel finish from Traore!
It gives the visitors the advantage going into the last 15 minutes and Everton have it all to do - again!
EVERTON HIT THE POST!
Sigurdsson's delivery causes chaos once again, as his free-kick evades everyone and eventually strikes the post, before Lyon clear!
- OffMyziane MaolidaOlympique Lyonnais
- OnMaxwell CornetOlympique Lyonnais
Another Lyon sub, Maolida is replaced Maxwell Cornet.
- GoalAshley WilliamsEverton
GOAL - Everton are level!
A wonderful free-kick delivery from Sigurdsson is inch-perfect for Williams who heads the ball powerfully past Lopes!
- OffKevin MirallasEverton
- OnSandro RamírezEverton
Koeman replaces Mirallas with Sandro in Everton's third and final change.
Williams is perhaps fortunate not to be sent off there. It has been a frustrating couple of weeks for the Welsh international, but there is no excusing such behaviour.
- Yellow cardAshley WilliamsEverton
Williams fouls Lyon's goalkeeper Lopes as the corner comes in and then three or four Everton players become involved in a melee with a number of Lyon players - it is all kicking off close to the supporters.
In the end, Williams and Traore are both shown yellow cards.
Calvert-Lewin does well to win Everton a corner. Sigurdsson will deliver...
Great determination from Holgate as he desperately tries to keep the ball in, but fails in his effort to do so.
The Everton full-back clearly fails he owes his side after conceding a penalty so recklessly.
The moment Everton conceded the penalty...
- OffNabil FekirOlympique Lyonnais
- OnJordan FerriOlympique Lyonnais
Lyon make their first change of the night, skipper and goalscorer Fekir goes off to a rousing reception as he is replaced by Jordan Ferri.
- OffMorgan SchneiderlinEverton
- OnGylfi SigurdssonEverton
Gylfi Sigurdsson replaces Schneiderlin, and suddenly Everton have a very attacking line-up.
Everton's night goes from bad to worse as Schneiderlin is going to be forced off with an injury.
Lookman, on the eve of his 20th birthday, is booked for a late challenge on Marcal.
Lyon open up Everton once more with Aouar finding Maolida with a perfectly weighted pass, but Schneiderlin makes a crucial intervention to deny the visitors a certain second!
Vlasic, it seems, has moved into the position vacated by Klaassen in the first half, with Lookman playing on the right channel.
Tete goes to the ground holding his head and it appears he was caught by the foot of Davies. The referee gives the free-kick Everton's way, however.
Lewin leaps like a salmon to flick the ball into the path of Lookman at the back post and he forces Lopes into a good save.
Everton make a positive start to the second period as Holgate delivers a teasing cross to the back post, but Lopes pushes it behind for a corner.
Everton get the second half underway.
- OffDavy KlaassenEverton
- OnAdemola LookmanEverton
The desperately poor Klaassen is replaced by Ademola Lookman at the break.
- End of 1st Half
Everton will have to come from behind to salvage anything from this game after Lyon took the lead as early as the sixth minute, Holgate fouling Marcal inside the box with Fekir subsequently scoring from the penalty spot.
Too easy for Traore as he is allowed to cut inside from the channel before curling a shot inches wide of Pickford's left-hand post. Everton go unpunished.
A good pass is played into the feet of Davies inside the box, but his first touch is heavy and takes the ball out of his control.
Everton continue to pile on the pressure in search of an equaliser before the break. Kenny Tete makes an important tackle to dispossess Mirallas inside the box.
A great save from Pickford as the Everton goalkeeper narrows the angle for Depay who can only slide the ball into the young Englishman's arms.
A square pass played out from the Lyon defence gifts the ball to Klaassen, but the Dutchman's tame effort is easily saved by Lopes.
Vlasic uses his body well to spin away from his marker, but he then screws his shot well wide of the target. Disappointing from an Everton point-of-view.
Had that gone in, Everton would surely have been down and out.
OFF THE WOODWORK!
WOW, so close to Lyon's second. Depay's free-kick from 30 yards takes a wild deflection off the head of Davies, Pickford is rooted to the spot, and he can only watch on as the effort bounces off the crossbar.
The hosts are growing in confidence as the game goes on. A goal before the half time break would be most welcome.
Lovely intricate football, orchestrated by Mirallas. He links up with Davies as they play a one-two, releasing the Belgian, but his shot is well blocked by Lopes.
Being caught on the break by a rapid Lyon side is always the danger though, and Everton breathe a sigh of relief as Traore's shot from 25 yards is blazed over. The former Chelsea player had better options, but decided to be selfish.
Much better from Everton. Mirallas drives at the Lyon defence, he is challenged by Marcelo but can only poke it in the direction of Davies whose shot is deflected for a corner.
In the other Group E game being played this evening, leaders Atalanta are 1-0 up against Apollon Limassol.
A first-time volley from Bertrand Traore, formerly of Chelsea, is straight forward for Pickford. Lyon are looking increasingly dangerous in attack, though.
Everton continue to be wasteful; Martina delivers his cross straight into the arms of Lyon shot-stopper Anthony Lopes.
Schneidlerin, who only has one goal to his name in an Everton shirt, unloads a first-time shot from the edge of the area, but he screws it wide.
The performance of Klaassen has been particularly worrying for Everton.
Lyon have been much the better side thus far, in truth.
Mirallas cuts inside before rifling a shot at goal on his favoured right foot, but the effort drifts wide of the near post. Still, at least it was something to give the Everton fans to applaud.
Nikola Vlasic is picked out with a long ball from defence, but the Everton midfielder was in an offside position.
Lyon can only half clear from the free-kick delivery, the ball falls to Klaassen who tries a half-volley, but it is always going well wide of the target.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin tries to hold the ball up, and does well to win a free-kick. Everton will bring players forward to contest the delivery which will surely end up in the Lyon penalty area.
Lyon have been in control of possession since taking the lead after only six minutes. They have scored in every game but two this season, and their forward line looks very threatening on this display.
I'm not sure Everton fans will be happy to read that Lyon's most common result this season is 3-3! A draw isn't really good enough this evening.
Groans from the home supporters as Klaassen gives the ball away cheaply in midfield. Really poor from the Dutchman. Everton have made a really worrying start.
Lyon launch a lightening quick counter-attack with Fekir sliding through Depay, but Williams gets across to make a crucial last-ditch block. Excellent defending.
Everton fall behind yet again, leaving them with a mountain to climb. It is time for Koeman to prove his worth, can he mastermind a comeback?
- Goal by penaltyNabil FekirOlympique Lyonnais
GOAL! Lyon take the lead!
Fekir confidently slots the ball into the bottom corner, beyond the reach of Pickford. It is the worst possible start Everton could have imagined.
PENALTY TO LYON!
A nightmare start for Everton as they concede a penalty! Marcal is taken down by a dreadfully mis-timed Mason Holgate tackle and the referee has no choice other than to point to the spot.
Everton's lack of quality in attack has been highlighted by the fact they have scored only five times in eight games this season. They are clearly missing Romelu Lukaku, who they didn't really replace.
Williams takes no chances as he clears the ball out for a throw-in, just as Jordan Pickford was about to collect.
The nervousness inside Goodison Park is palpable.
A must win for Everton? Probably. They will likely need four points from their two games against Lyon to have any chance of progressing in the competition.
- 1st Half
The visitors, in white and kicking from left to right, get the game underway.
Arsenal have won in Belgrade, with Olivier Giroud's late goal proving decisive. Can Everton take inspiration from their Premier League counterparts?
Kick off is only five short minutes away.
Everton have endured an awful run of form, winning only two of their last 11 games. A bright start is important this evening, otherwise the Goodison faithful may get on the team's back.
Everton have met French opposition on two previous occasions on the European stage - beating Lille in the Europa League 3-0 at Goodison Park in November 2014, while drawing their away match 0-0 in October 2014.
Lyon appear to be struggling without Alexandre Lacazette, who of course moved to Arsenal in the summer, with the Ligue 1 side also yet to win in Group E. They drew 1-1 in Limassol and were also held 1-1 at home to Atalanta.
The visitors will be boosted by a dramatic 3-2 victory over league champions Monaco on Sunday, when Nabil Fekir bagged a brace.
The Toffees are bottom of Group E, with only one point from their opening two matches in Group E, following a 3-0 defeat by Atalanta and a 2-2 at home draw against Apollon Limassol.
"It is a really important game. We know the situation in the group. We need a win," said Koeman.
"We have three different games in three different competitions in the next week.
"We want to do well in all of them but our only focus is Thursday and that is what we need to concentrate on."
With some tough fixtures on the horizon, Koeman names a rather experimental eleven, and you have to say that is quite risky given his precarious position. The Dutchman hasn not tasted victory in October, and his team are in grave danger of slipping out of Europe at the group stages. Things aren't any brighter domestically, with Everton languishing towards the bottom of the table; only two points separate them from the bottom three.
Kevin Mirallas is handed a rare start with the inconsistent Belgian given an opportunity to impress in attack.
There is no Wayne Rooney for Everton this evening, the former England skipper isn't even named amongst the substitutes. Davy Klaassen is preferred over Gylfi Sigurdsson who is left on the bench.
There are also changes in defence, with Ashley Williams and Cuco Martina taking the places of Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines.

Under pressure Toffees boss Ronald Koeman has picked up only a single point from two Group E matches and could do really do with a victory this evening.
