Callum Hudson-Odoi came off the bench to round off a comfortable 3-0 win for Chelsea over Dynamo Kiev on Thursday evening.
A delightful Olivier Giourd backheel set up Pedro for Chelsea’s first goal, but the Spaniard then saw three more chances go begging in the first half.
Chelsea strived to make home advantage count, and a superb free-kick from Willian – virtually a carbon copy of his goal against Dynamo four years ago – saw the Blues double their lead.
And with Chelsea seemingly set to take a two-goal advantage to Ukraine for next week’s return leg, Hudson-Odoi scored a vital third, and his fourth of the season at Stamford Bridge.

TALKING POINT

Chelsea have put the tie to bed… haven’t they? What a difference a goal makes. The 3-0 scoreline reads so much healthier than a 2-0 for Chelsea ahead of the return leg in Kiev.
It’s a huge ask for Dynamo, and with Chelsea in a top-four race as well, Maurizio Sarri will be delighted to get the opportunity to rest Eden Hazard and Gonzalo Higuain – as he did on Thursday night – once more. [See: Arsenal down 3-1 and chasing their tie against Rennes]

MAN OF THE MATCH

Pedro (Chelsea): What rating do you give a player who was quite easily his side’s biggest attacking threat, scored the opening goal, almost assisted another, but then spurned four more opportunities? Reckon about an eight is fair – but it so easily could have been nine or 10.

PLAYER RATINGS

Chelsea: Kepa 6; Zappacosta 7, Christensen 6, Luiz 7, Alonso 6; Kovacic 6, Jorginho 6, Barkley 7; Pedro 8, Giroud 6, Willian 7. Subs: Kante 6, Loftus-Cheek 7, Hudson-Odoi 7.
Dynamo Kiev: Boyko 6; Kedziora 5, Burda 5, Shabanov 5, Mykolenko 5; Sydorchuk 5, Shepeliev 5; Tsygankov 5, Shaparenko 6, Buyalskiy 5; Rusyn 5. Subs: Garmash 6, Sidcley 6.

KEY MOMENTS

17’ - GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Dynamo Kiev. It's a delightful move as Pedro plays it to Giroud, who backheels it back to the Spaniard who tucks it through the goalkeeper's legs.
21’ - BIG CHANCE! It should be 2-0! But Boyko denies Pedro from point-blank range following a low cross. Right place, right time for the Dynamo goalkeeper.
26’ - SAVE! Boyko's feet prevent Chelsea this time, as he keeps out Barkley's low attempt from a narrow angle. More slick football from the hosts.
35’ - BIG SAVE! Another chance goes begging for Pedro, who superbly brings down a Luiz pass before volleying towards goal, but the strong palm of Boyko keeps it out.
65’ - WHAT A GOAL!!! Chelsea 2-0 Dynamo Kiev. Luiz and Willian both want it... but looks like Willian will take... Stunning free-kick from Willian, who curls it into the near top corner.
83’ - OVER! Lovely move from Chelsea and this time Pedro turns provider as he feeds in Loftus-Cheek, who takes a touch before sending it over from six yards out on the stretch.
90’ - GOAL! Chelsea 3-0 Dynamo Kiev. Has Hudson-Odoi just put this tie to bed? He has scored for the third straight Europa League game at home, taking a touch from Loftus-Cheek's pass before stroking it past Boyko.
