Arsenal escape with three points and they have Pepe to thank. They were in a desperate situation when he was introduced off the bench, but two freekick strikes were enough to give the Gunners their third straight win in the Europa League group stage this season. This was less than convincing, though.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Arsenal 3-2 Vitoria Guimaraes
- GoalNicolas PépéArsenal
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Arsenal 3 (92 mins - Nicolas Pepe) Vitoria Guimaraes 2. Pepe has won the game for Arsenal! They were 2-1 down when he came off the bench and he has scored twice to turn this around for the Gunners! Another magnificent freekick strike from Pepe! He curled home the finish from 20 yards out.
- OffDavidsonVitória Guimarães
- OnRochinhaVitória Guimarães
Vitoria have made one last change as they look to see this result out. This would be a big point.
There will be three minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
Pepe has made a real difference for Arsenal since coming off the bench. The big summer signing has had his critics in recent weeks, but he's taken this match by the scruff of the neck.
This is a lot better from Arsenal, but why has it taken them so long to find this sort of performance level? There's a good chance that they have left it too late and that Vitoria hold on.
Holding header! That was another good opportunity for Arsenal! Pepe's freekick delivery found Holding in the middle, but the centre back could only find the gloves of the Vitoria goalkeeper.
- Yellow cardEdmond TapsobaVitória Guimarães
Tapsoba is the latest player to be shown a yellow card. Vitoria under pressure at the moment.
Should have scored! What an opportunity for Arsenl! Mustafi played a defence-splitting pass for Bellerin, he cut the ball back for Martinelli, but his shot is straight at Silva when he should have found the back of the net.
At long last, the home supporters inside the Emirates Stadium are getting behind their team. Arsenal have eight minutes plus stoppage time to find what would surely be a winner.
- GoalNicolas PépéArsenal
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Arsenal 2 (81 mins - Nicolas Pepe) Vitoria Guimaraes 2. An equaliser with 10 minutes left and it's a stunning strike from Pepe! The winger took the freekick from 20 yards out and found the far corner of the Vitoria net. Is there time for the Gunners to net a winner? They have given themselves a platform at least!
Emery is slumped in his seat in the Arsenal dugout. No matter what happens in these final 10 minutes, he's going to face more pressing questions. This hasn't been a good night.
One of the few Arsenal players to have played well tonight...
Time is running out for Arsenal here. There is still time for them to turn things around, but you don't really get the sense that a comeback is about to be mounted. No siege on the Vitoria goal.
- OffAlexandre LacazetteArsenal
- OnNicolas PépéArsenal
Here comes Pepe. The winger will get the final 15 minutes of this match. Lacazette is replaced.
- Yellow cardAlexandre LacazetteArsenal
Lacazette enters the book for complaining to the referee about something. That will be his last action of the match.
That. Was. Abysmal. Arsenal won a freekick in a dangerous position, they had players up from the back, there was a long delay before it was taken... and Ceballos drifts the cross over everyone.
- OffMarcus EdwardsVitória Guimarães
- OnAndré PereiraVitória Guimarães
Another change from the Portuguese visitors with Pereira coming off the bench.
The problem for Arsenal is that the more they go chasing an equaliser, the more space they leave in behind for Vitoria to exploit. The Portuguese side have done that well so far.
At what point will Emery throw on Pepe? The former Lille winger has struggled to make an impression at Arsenal since signing in the summer, but they need something extra in attack.
If this result holds there would be an argument that this would be the worst result of Emery's time in charge of Arsenal. In a week which saw the Gunners lose to Sheffield United on Monday.
Lacazette has looked well off the pace for Arsenal this evening. That is perhaps understandable given that the Frenchman has been missing through injury recently. Arsenal need him back.
- OffAndré AlmeidaVitória Guimarães
- OnPêpêVitória Guimarães
Vitoria have made their first change of the match and Pepe comes off the bench for the away side.
Did this warrant more than a yellow?
Pot shot from Almeida! The ball was played back to the Vitoria player 20 yards out and his shot comes off Holding for a corner kick. There was no desire from Arsenal to close him down.
Most surely would have expected Arsenal to coast through this match so this has been something of a surprise. Vitoria are now under 30 minutes away from a famous victory.
There are a lot of players in this Arsenal team still struggling for fitness, a lot of fringe players, but there is still a real lack of identity and personality to this performance from the Gunners.
- Yellow cardVíctor GarcÍaVitória Guimarães
There really wasn't much in that. Lacazette implied he'd been headbutted. It's a booking for Garcia.
The Arsenal players aren't happy. Lacazette has gone down on the turf implying that he received an arm to the face. Keep in mind that there is no VAR in the Europa League.
The Vitoria supporters are enjoying themselves at the Emirates Stadium. Their team have lost their first two group games in the Europa League this season, but they are on top here.
ICYMI this was the opening goal for Vitoria...
That should have been an equaliser! Tierney did well to surge into the Vitoria box and cut a pass back. The ball ended up falling to the unmarked Smith-Rowe 12 yards out, but he puts his shot wide.
Emery surely must have hoped that there would be a reaction from his Arsenal players at the start of the second half, but it's just a little bit flat from the Gunners. Not happening for them.
PICTURE: It hasn't been Arsenal's night so far.
Header straight at Martinez! Davidson might have done better with that. He got on the end of a cross into the middle. but his header was straight at the goalkeeper in the Arsenal goal.
A clever backheel flick! Martinez needed to be sharp there! Vitoria got in behind the Arsenal defence, Davidson then played a pass to the near post where Poha forced a save out of the goalkeeper with a clever flick!
Mustafi header wide! That was an opportunity for the German defender who was up from the back, but he glances his header wide when he really should have found the target.
- OffAinsley Maitland-NilesArsenal
- OnMattéo GuendouziArsenal
... and the second change saw Guendouzi introduced off the bench. Can he make a difference?
- OffJoe WillockArsenal
- OnDani CeballosArsenal
Emery made a double change at the break with Ceballos coming on for Willock...
Arsenal must improve in this second half. They were poor in the opening 45 minutes and defended poorly for the two Vitoria goals scored that saw the away side head into half time ahead.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! Arsenal are trailing 2-1 to Vitoria Guimaraes in this Europa League group game.

- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Arsenal 1-2 Vitoria Guimaraes. That's half time at the Emirates Stadium and some boos ring around the venue as the whistle blows. This is a very surprising scoreline. Arsenal have work to do.
Tierney gets to the halfway line and has to turn back. The Scot is complaining to his teammates that there is no movement ahead of him and he certainly has a point. Far too static.
Can Arsenal find an equaliser before they head in for the half time interval? Emery needs to get his players into the dressing room and come up with a new game plan. This isn't working too well.
Just wide! There's another warning sign for Arsenal. This time it's Davidson who gets the shot away, but his effort flashes just wide of the post. Martinez didn't look too worried, though.
Moans and groans around the Emirates Stadium. This first half hasn't gone to plan. Vitoria have taken their chances when they have come their way. Arsenal have been poor at the back.
Just at the point it seemed that Arsenal had turned this match around, they find themselves behind again. The Gunners have to do much better than that. Poor defending on both goals.
- GoalBrunoVitória Guimarães
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Arsenal 1 Vitoria Guimaraes 2 (37 mins - Bruno Duarte). Incredible! The Portuguese visitors have taken the lead for a second time! Maitland-Niles gave the ball away cheaply, Davidson then struck the post with his initial low effort before Duarte fired home the rebound. He had a lot to do! What a finish!
That equalising goal was the first time that Tierney had got up the pitch to deliver a cross into the box. That's where the Scotland international can cause the most damage.
The Emirates Stadium breathes a sight of relief with the scoring of that equaliser. Arsenal still have work to do to turn this game right around, but they're in a better place now.
- GoalGabriel MartinelliArsenal
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Arsenal 1 (33 mins - Gabriel Martinelli) Vitoria Guimaraes 1. There's the equaliser for Arsenal! It's Martinelli who has found the back of the net. That's his fifth goal of the season. The cross came in from Tierney on the left side and Martinelli watched it all the way to guide a header past Silva in the Vitoria goal!
Arsenal were expected to coast through this match, but this is proving to be quite the test for Emery and his players. They look like a team that hasn't played much together.
In the grand scheme of things, a defeat here wouldn't be a disaster for Arsenal given that they have won both their group games so far. But the manner of their performance must be concerning to Emery.
Cross from Bellerin! That was much better from Arsenal. Bellerin got down the right side and then played the cross into Martinelli, but he just couldn't make contact to guide it into the net.
He might have done better! A flick on at the near post from a Vitoria corner kick saw the ball land at the feet of Duarte at the back post. But he slices his shot on the half volley. That was a chance.
The Gunners need to do more to get Lacazette involved in the match. The French striker has missed the last few weeks of action through injury. That has been obvious in his start here.
Emery would have wanted a response from his players after their dismal defeat to Sheffield United on Monday night. Well, it hasn't quite turned out that way so far. Still a long way to go.
Smith-Rowe has been a rare bright spark for Arsenal in this first half. He is the only one looking to make something happen, the only one who looks to be determined to turn this around.
Arsenal look a little surprised by what they have faced in the opening 25 minutes of this match. They shouldn't be. Vitoria might not be that illustrious, but they are fourth in the Portuguese Liga at this moment.
Willock makes the run on the outside and gets the shot away. The effort was saved, but the flag had been raised for an offside against Lacazette who played the final pass through.
Tierney is having a torrid time against Garcia down that left wing. The Arsenal left back is known for being a decent defender, but he is really struggling with the pace of his opponent.
PICTURE: It hasn't been the best of starts for Arsenal.
There aren't a lot of Vitoria supporters at the Emirates Stadium for this match, but the ones that have travelled over from Portugal are having a ball. Making all the noise at the moment.
Lovely from Smith-Rowe! That was much better from Arsenal. A clever little turn from Smith-Rowe saw him create the space for the shot just inside the box, but his effort is blocked for a corner.
While Arsenal have probably seen more of the ball, it's Vitoria who have looked the sharper of the two teams in the opening exchanges of this match. This has been impressive.
It's worth noting the background of Edwards who scored the opening goal for Vitoria. He's from Canning Town and was a highly rated youngster at Spurs. What a return to North London.
Tierney will be disappointed with his defending for the opening goal. The Scottish left back got on the wrong side of Garcia and ended up paying for that as his opposite number got the cross in.
Arsenal look all over the place at the back in the early stages of this match. This time, Almeida has his shot blocked when he had options either side. Emery can't be pleased with this.
Well, we have a match on our hands here. Vitoria had a chance in the opening few minutes and Arsenal didn't take that warning sign seriously, it seems. They are behind.
Chance for an instant response! The ball fell to Lacazette about 20 yards out after Willock won a header in the centre of the pitch, but the French striker dragged his low effort wide.
- GoalMarcus EdwardsVitória Guimarães
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Arsenal 0 Vitoria Guimaraes 1 (9 mins - Marcus Edwards). It's a shock opener for the Portuguese side! Garcia surged down the right side, getting the better of Tierney, he then cut the pass back to Edwards, who steadied himself and moved the ball on to his right foot before finding the back of the Arsenal net!
This is also a chance for Tierney to show he is ready to start a Premier League game. There has been a lot of excitement around the Scot since he signed from Celtic in the summer.
Mustafi has to have a good night here. The German defender has yet to play a single minute for Arsenal in the Premier League this season. He has fallen out of favour of late.
The initial signs are that Maitland-Niles is playing higher up on the right side than is customary. Bellerin is playing at right back. Maitland-Niles has previously said he wants to play in midfield.
It already feels like the big headline from this match has been produced. Emery will face questions about Ozil and the German's future at the club in the post-match conference and in the weeks to come before January.
Good chance for Vitoria! Almeida probably should have done better with his shot! Holding was too tight on his man, allowed Almeida to turn inside the box, but then his tame shot was saved by Martinez.
There are a lot of empty seats at the Emirates Stadium this evening. Vitoria certainly aren't the biggest team to visit this venue and that might be reflected in the number of fans staying away.
Arsenal fans will be hoping for a reaction this evening after their team's dreadful performance and result away to Sheffield United in the Premier League earlier in the week.

Okay, here we go. We're about to get started at the Emirates Stadium. Kick off is just moments away.
Over to Mesut...
Both teams are in the tunnel at the Emirates Stadium, getting ready for that (not so) famous Europa League anthem.
Arsenal are strong favourites for this one, but Emery has experimented somewhat with his team selection. They can't afford to be complacent.
Not long until kick off at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal have won both their group games in the Europa League so far this season. A win here would put them in a very strong position.
While the omission of Ozil will make the headlines again, there are places for Bellerin and Tierney in Emery's starting lineup for this match. Arsenal need them to return to match fitness soon.
I'm Graham Ruthven and you can catch me on Twitter ahead of the match to let me know your thoughts. How excited are you to see some of Arsenal's young players? Tweet me!
No Ozil! There's no doubting where the big team news lies this evening. Ozil has been left out of the Arsenal matchday squad. The German playmaker has been frozen out of the team this season.
