Real Madrid v Manchester United: Cristiano Ronaldo could make Super Cup return

Manchester United will be without Eric Bailly and Phil Jones at the back, who are both suspended. Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young are all definitely out with long-term injuries.

Cristiano Ronaldo has not featured in pre-season for Real Madrid as yet, having competed in the Confederations Cup, but he could match an appearance having returned to training.

Jose Mourinho: "Every time I've contested the UEFA Super Cup, it was as the Europa League winners. When I won the Champions League with Porto, I left Porto. When I won the Champions League with Inter, I left Inter.

“So I've never contested the UEFA Super Cup as the strongest team. It's the same story this time: I'm taking Manchester United to play against Real Madrid, the Champions League winners. Hopefully this time we can do it."

Zinedine Zidane: "We started off badly and we know how it is. The bad run is now four games long.

"We have very little time before [the Super Cup] and we have to rest and get ready for that.”

This is the first chance to see Manchester United’s new signings in competitive action. Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic should all feature for United, and they could upset Real as they are further ahead in their pre-season preparations.
