N’Golo Kante scored a stunning goal as Chelsea reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over ten-man Manchester United in a bad-tempered game.
The turning point came when Ander Herrera was dismissed in the first half after being shown two yellow cards for fouls on Eden Hazard, who earlier forced David de Gea into a world-class save.
Antonio Conte’s side capitalised on their one-man advantage in the second period with Kante rifling the ball into the bottom corner from distance.

But the game was marred by tempers flaring with Diego Costa and Marcos Rojo involved in a string of confrontations while Conte clashed with Jose Mourinho on the touchline over a late challenge from Antonio Valencia on Marcos Alonso.
Marcus Rashford, who was surprisingly named in the starting line-up having had an illness, forced Thibaut Courtois into a good save for United’s best chance.
But the Blues hung on to make it another forgettable return to Stamford Bridge for Mourinho following the 4-0 defeat in the Premier League in October.

Did Ander Herrera deserve to be sent off? He can have few arguments with his first booking for barging into Eden Hazard and obstructing him. His second yellow was for clipping the Belgian playmaker was more debatable, although United's players had been warned by referee Michael Oliver for their over enthusiastic challenges. The Spaniard often plays on the edge but his temperament proved to be his downfall.

N’Golo Kante (Chelsea): The Frenchman scored a wonderful goal in the Premier League win over United in October and he added another in this game, beating David de Gea from long range. His work rate, passing and trickery left Paul Pogba and United’s midfield in his wake.

MANCHESTER UNITED: De Gea 7, Valencia 5, Jones 6, Smalling 5, Rojo 6, Darmian 5, Herrera 5, Pogba 4, Young 5, Mkhitaryan 5, Rashford 7. Subs: Fellaini 5, Lingard 5

12’ - CHANCE! Pogba loops the ball to Rashford who runs at goal, he is tackled by Azpilicueta but the ball falls to Mkhitaryan on the edge of the area and his low drive flashes wide.
16’ - HAZARD EFFORT! The Belgian performs a brilliant spin near the halfway line, and beats two players before firing in a low shot which is well saved from De Gea and goes out for a corner.
17’ - FANTASTIC STOP! From the corner, the ball falls to Cahill who slides in and gets a shot away from close range which is kept out with one hand by De Gea!
35’ - RED CARD! Herrera is off after getting a second booking for tripping Hazard from behind.
51’ - GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United: A patient build-up around the box leads to Willian laying it off to Kante, who fires in a low shot from 25 yards into the corner. What a strike!
59’ - GOOD SAVE! Rashford is through one-on-one with Cahill after a neat turn, he bursts towards goal and his low shot is well kept out by Courtois' legs.
60’ - COSTA MISS! Chelsea have a corner from the right. It's a great delivery and an unmarked Costa runs in and heads it wide from close range, the ball appeared to come off his shoulder.

Both of N’Golo Kante’s goals for Chelsea have come against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
