Football news - Jurgen Klopp blames windy conditions for Liverpool's FA Cup defeat at Wolves

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told reporters that the windy conditions at Wolverhampton Wanderers contributed to his team's loss on Monday.

Premier League leaders Liverpool played a weakened team in the third-round match against Wolves, and struggled to get going against the midlands club, losing 2-1 to go out of the competition at the first hurdle.
With Liverpool currently in the midst of a serious Premier League title challenge, it wasn't a surprise to see Klopp named a youthful side. But that selection was further damaged when centre-back Dejan Lovren went off injured in the first half. However, the manager gave short shrift to the suggestion that he could have rested Lovren, saying:
I am not sure what you all would have said if immediately from the beginning if our centre-half situation was Fabinho and Ki-Jana; then probably a few very smart people would tell me that I don’t respect the competition or whatever.
And the Liverpool manager also had some suggestions for why his team struggled to gel on the pitch at Molineux, saying:
We had a few players who were ill after the Manchester City game. The wind didn't help, players struggled to control the ball.
Liverpool have now failed to impress in all four FA Cup campaigns since Klopp's arrival at Anfield, and defeat to Wolves makes it consecutive losses in all competitions for the Reds - a concerning stat given the club's January record under the German coach.
Since his arrival on Merseyside, Klopp's Liverpool have won just seven of their 26 matches in the month of January.
Liverpool's face Brighton, Crystal Palace and Leicester City in their next three Premier League fixtures.
