'Let it go, lads': Fans react to Rice winning Ireland award
Congratulations to England's Declan Rice for winning Republic of Ireland's Young Player of the Year award!
The 20-year-old took part in three friendlies for the senior Republic of Ireland international side in 2018 before switching his allegiance to England last month.
The voting for the FAI International Awards took place before Rice pledged his future to the UEFA Nations League semi-finalists in February, which allowed the West Ham midfielder to top the poll and be named as Ireland's Young Player of the Year for 2018.
Football fans on Twitter (unsurprisingly) failed to empathise with furious Ireland supporters.
What an absolute shambles.
Surely the award could've just gone to whoever finished second!
We don't blame Rice for swerving the invitation to the awards ceremony.
