Marcus Rashford has withdrawn from England’s squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Montenegro due to an ankle injury.
The striker has returned to Manchester United, while England manager Gareth Southgate confirmed he will not bring in a replacement.
England have been hit by a string of injuries ahead of the qualifying opener against the Czech Republic at Wembley on Friday.
Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold pulled out with a back problem on Wednesday, with Fabian Delph, John Stones, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Luke Shaw also withdrawing.
Southgate confirmed Jordan Pickford would start in goal for Friday’s match, and said he would not hesitate playing teenagers Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi from the start.
Sancho, 18, made his England debut last year, while fellow 18-year-old Hudson-Odoi received his first senior call-up after Southgate was forced to bring in replacements.
