Gareth Southgate has been appointed England manager on a four-year deal following an interim spell in charge of the national side.

Here, Press Association Sport takes a look back at his short reign in numbers.

2 - England won two of their four unbeaten matches under Southgate, defeating Malta and then seeing off Scotland 3-0.

4 - Southgate was initially appointed to take charge of four games, starting against Malta at Wembley, then Slovenia away, a home tie with Scotland and finishing against the Spaniards.

7 - England scored seven goals during Southgate's tenure, although they failed to find the net when battling to a 0-0 draw in Slovenia.

10 - Southgate's reign as interim boss ended with England on 10 points at the top of Group F, two clear of Slovenia in their quest to qualify for the 2018 World Cup finals.

14 - Leicester striker Jamie Vardy ended a 14-match barren run for both club and country when he scored in the 2-2 draw against Spain at Wembley.

41 - England's 3-0 victory against Scotland was the biggest win over their old rivals in some 41 years.
