Glenn Murray says Brighton now believe they have what it takes to stay in the Premier League.
The promoted Seagulls were tipped to struggle this season but climbed to 12th following Saturday’s comprehensive 4-1 win over Swansea.
Murray, who scored twice to take his tally for the campaign to 10, said: “It was a huge win.
“We knew if we got three points it would be vital for our task to stay in the Premier League – thankfully we got that.
“Are we enjoying the challenge? Yes, we are, and the belief throughout the squad is growing as the season goes on.
“The longer the Premier League has gone on, the more we’ve believed in ourselves. There were a lot of us who hadn’t graced the Premier League before this season and the belief has grown throughout the squad.”
Murray opened the scoring from the penalty spot and swept in the second before Anthony Knockaert made it three.
Lewis Dunk deflected in a Tammy Abraham shot as Swansea pulled one back but Jurgen Locadia wrapped up the scoring in the final minute to seal a morale-boosting win ahead of next weekend’s visit from Arsenal.
“We’ve got to try and get as many points as possible and not think that we’re almost there,” added Murray.
“It’s great for the fans, but for us it’s three points and that’s it. We can’t get carried away. We’ll be doing the same things ahead of the Arsenal game.
“That’s another big game for us down at the Amex. Our form here is picking up a lot, and we will welcome Arsenal down and hopefully get some points out of the game.”
Defeat ended Swansea’s 10-match unbeaten run and saw them slip back into the relegation zone.
But manager Carlos Carvalhal said: “We don’t lose our abilities, either individually or collectively, because we have lost one game.
“We will be better in the games we have coming up, especially in the Premier League next weekend, that is absolutely sure.”
