Miguel Herrera has been fired as Mexico coach for apparently punching a reporter just hours after the national side won the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The head of the Mexico Soccer Federation made the announcement after Television Azteca's Christian Martinoli claimed the coach known as 'El Piojo' punched him in the neck at Philadelphia Airport.
Mexico won a record seventh Gold Cup with a 3-1 win over Jamaica at Lincoln Financial Field, but many fans and pundits were critical of the side's performance across the tournament, including a 2-1 success over Panama in the semi-finals when they were awarded two fortunate penalties.

"We're very happy," said Herrera. "We dominated the ball. We got the rhythm we wanted and controlled the play. It's a great satisfaction for all of us."
Martinoli had apparently been an outspoken critic of Herrera's management style.
Herrera is not the first manager to lose his temper with a TV reporter.
Former Dundee United manager Jim McLean was forced to abandon his role as chairman of the Scottish Premier League club in disgrace after he infamously punched an unsuspecting BBC reporter after a match in 2000.
