Jordan Pickford will reportedly start for England against Germany at Wembley on Friday after Jack Butland pulled out of the match with a broken finger.
The Everton goalkeeper, who joined in a £30million transfer from Sunderland over the summer, will make his debut in an under-strength team that has been hamstrung by injuries.
Tammy Abraham, the Chelsea striker who is on loan at Swansea, could also make his bow in the absence of Kane as manager Gareth Southgate looks at his options ahead of the tournament in Russia next summer.
Stoke keeper Butland joins Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson, Fabian Delph, Harry Kane, Harry Winks and Dele Alli in pulling out of the squad for the friendlies against Germany on Friday and Brazil on Tuesday.
Latest squad
Tammy Abraham, Ryan Bertrand, Gary Cahill, Jack Cork, Eric Dier, Joe Gomez, Joe Hart, Phil Jones, Michael Keane, Jesse Lingard, Jake Livermore, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Harry Maguire, Jordan Pickford, Marcus Rashford, Danny Rose, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Jamie Vardy, Kyle Walker, Ashley Young.
