Well, that wasn't great. Whistles greet the Belgian players from the home fans as they walk off at the end of the match. More is expected of the Red Devils. Portugal were the better of the two teams, but they too lacked a cutting edge. At least they created some chances in front of goal, though.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Belgium 0-0 Portugal
- OffGonçalo GuedesPortugal
- OnMário RuiPortugal
Guedes comes offin stoppage time and he will be replaced by Rui.
Portugal will be pleased with how they have played here. When you add Ronaldo into the equation, they might be in rathe good shape ahead of the World Cup. Dark horses?
A freekick was whipped in by Januzaj, with Vertonghen at the back post. However, the Spurs man, along with a teammate and the keeper Beto all flinched and allowed the ball to drift out.
Four minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
JANUZAJ WIDE! The former Manchester United man has been one of the few players on the pitch who has tried to drive Belgium forward. This time, he hits the side netting with a near post effort.
The early signs for this match were very positive. Both sides started on the front foot, looking to create chances, but slowly but surely the pace and intensity was dragged down.
- OffJoão MoutinhoPortugal
- OnBruno FernandesPortugal
Moutinho coms off for Portual and Fernandes will come on for the last few minutes.
Bentekes has provided some presence as the centre forward since coming on for Lukaku at half time, but the Crystal Palace forward has struggled to provide a cutting edge.
The pressure has been building on Martinez in recent weeks and while this game hasn't been a disaster, it won't ease any of that pressure. Belgium have looked really laboured at times.
After this, Belgium will take on Egypt in another friendly on Wednesday night. By then, Martinez will have named his 23-man squad for this summer's World Cup. All will be known.
Another interesting discussion between Martinez and Hazard on the sideline. The Chelsea man was suggesting that Portugal were being quite rough on him on the pitch.
- OffEden HazardBelgium
- OnThorgan HazardBelgium
Another change, this time for Belgium. Thorgan comes on to replace his brother, Eden.
If Portugal are to do well at the World Cup this summer then you'd think Silva will have to be a key figure for him. The AC Milan striker has been in great scoring form for his country.
- OffBernardo SilvaPortugal
- OnAndré SilvaPortugal
Bernardo comes off and he is replaced by Silva for the final 10 minutes.
Are we going to see a goal for either of these two teams before the full time whistle? It's not looking very likely, to be honest. Portugal are quite happy with the way this is going.
Hazard has been on the end of some rough treatment over the past five minutes or so and one wonders if the Chelsea man might be taken off to wrap him in some cotton wool.
When you factor in that Portugal will have Ronaldo to call upon to provide some cutting edge in the final third, they might not be in such bad shape for the World Cup this summer.
- OffJoão MárioPortugal
- OnManuel FernandesPortugal
Another change for Portugal, with Fernandes on for Mario.
Chadli was looking for the run of Benteke inside the penalty box, but the cross was a little too strong and the former Liverpool man couldn't make a connection on the dive.
Hazard has done very little. He might be keeping his best form for the World Cup, treating this as a very literal warm up, but you would expect to see more from the Chelsea man.
Santos will be pleased with how his Portugal team have played this evening. They have controlled the game, have never looked in danger and have created some chances of their own.
Belgium have really struggled to create goalscoring chances in this match, which is quite a feat when you consider the amount of attacking talent they have on the pitch right now.
INJURY TO COURTOIS? This could be a worry for Martinez. Queresma looked to stand on the hand of the Belgium goalkeeper. Courtois is now getting some freeze on the injury.
OFFSIDE CALL! Queresma looked to be in behind the Belgian backline, rounding the goalkeeper as well. The angle was tight, but the flag was up. The Besiktas man was offside.
GOOD SAVE BY BETO! Meunier might have been trying to pick out Benteke at the far post, but his delivery was heading for the far corner and Beto had to make the diving save.
- OffGelson MartinsPortugal
- OnRicardo QuaresmaPortugal
Gelson comes off after that missed chance and is replaced by Queresma.
GELSON CHANCE! He should have done better with that. Guedes breaks the offside trap to cut back a pass for his teammat, but Gelson scoops his finish waaaaay over the bar.
Bernardo was maybe a little lucky not to be shown a yellow card for that. The Manchester City midfielder had a nibble at Hazard as he dribbled past three players.
Fellaini is being used as an anchoring midfielder in the centre of the pitch, just in front of the back four. It's always interesting to see where managers use the Manchester United man.
Could it be that Kompany was taken off due to an injury? He collided with a Portugal player in a challenge and then talked to Martinez on his way to the bench. Hmmmm....
It will be interesting to see how Martinez manages Kompany at the World Cup this summer. Injuries have long been a problem for him, so will he sit out some of the matches?
- OffVincent KompanyBelgium
- OnDedryck BoyataBelgium
Kompany comes off and is replaced by Boyata for the final 30 minutes.
VERTONGHEN DRIVE! A good save from Beto to deny Vertonghen, who controlled the ball on the edge of the box and sent a shot towards goal. It's tipped over the bar by the keeper.
- Yellow cardPepePortugal
Rather predictably, Pepe is the first playet to be shown a yellow for a foul on Hazard.
That was a half chance for Portugal. Gelson did well to drive into the box and pass into Guedes. The PSG man couldn't control and Alderweireld makes the challenge to stop him.
Portugal were probably the happier of the two teams at the half time break. They started slowly, but grew into the game and by the end of the half they were creating the best chances.
Januzaj has actually enjoyed a good season with Real Sociedad. It's good to see the former Manchester United man doing well again after suffering an almighty decline in recent seasons.
This is a chance for Martinez to look at a few players before making his final squad selection ahead of the World Cup. Januzaj is one of those players right on the brink.
- OffDries MertensBelgium
- OnAdnan JanuzajBelgium
And finally, Januzaj comes on as well. The Real Sociedad man will be looking to impress.
- OffMousa DembéléBelgium
- OnMarouane FellainiBelgium
Fellaini is on for Belgium. The midfielder is currently discussing a new contract with Manchester United.
- OffYannick CarrascoBelgium
- OnNacer ChadliBelgium
Chadli is also on for the home side. The West Brom man has endured a difficult season.
- OffRomelu LukakuBelgium
- OnChristian BentekeBelgium
There were a few changes made by Belgium at the half time break. Benteke came on to replace Lukaku.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! It's still 0-0 between Belgium and Portugal.
What did you make of the first half? Should Martinez be bothered by how his Belgium team have played in the opening 45 minutes? Should Santos be pleased? Tweet me!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Belgium 0-0 Portugal. Whistles ring round the ground as the first half comes to a close. The home fans expected more from their team. Portugal have played well.
An entertaining first half, but Martinez will surely want his team to create more in the second half. It's quite likely that we will see changes by both teams at the half time break.
NARROW ANGLE! Gelson made a good run in behind the Belgium defence, but the angle was always tight for him. He opened out his right foot, but sent the shot across the face of goal.
It was Belgium who started the match the better of the two teams, but Portugal have generally been the more impressive of the sides over the course of the full first half here.
BERNARDO SHOOTS WIDE! Portugal are getting closer and closer here. This time Bernardo lashes a shot towards the far post, but a deflection takes it just wide of the target.
HEADER OVER! Guedes got up above Vertonghen to get a header towards goal, but he had to create the pace on the effort himself and he puts it over the bar. Courtois watched it.
That's a dreadful cross from Meunier. The Paris Saint-Germain full back got down the right wing and attempted a delivery into the area, but he scoops it straight out of play.
I know it's only a friendly match, but you just get the sense that Martinez isn't making the most of this Belgium team. They have so much attacking quality, but not many chances created.
That wasn't the cleanest handling from Courtois. Guerreiro send a shot towards the Belgium goal from the right wing and the Chelsea goalkeeper very nearly fumbled it!
That was an interesting attack from Belgium. Mertens broke to the byline and got his head up for a cross, but Lukaku was literally the only man in red inside the penalty box.
BERNARDO TRIES HIS LUCK! The Manchester City attacker dribbled past Kompany on the edge of the box and takes aim, but it was a tame effort and Courtois makes the save.
Carrasco is a strange case. He made the move out to the Chinese Super League in the January window. He's only 24, so that caught many by surprise. He only cost £24m, as well.
There were plenty inside the stadium who thought that had hit the back of the net, even the stadium announcer, who had started proclaiming Carrasco as the scorer of the opening goal.
NOT FAR WIDE! That's the first real chance of the match. Carrasco cuts back on to his left foot to create the scoring chance, but he lashes his shot wide of the target. Should have done better.
De Bruyne is the one dropping deep to pick up the ball from the back four and drive it forward. This is the role he performs for Pep Guardiola at Man City, to great effect.
This is a very strong Belgium team, but one of their weak points is at left back. Yes, they have Vertonghen there, but he's been shoe-horned in that place with no natural left back available.
Moutinho is one of the stalwarts of this Portugal team. The midfielder has over 100 caps for his national team. Ronaldo, for some context, has 149. He's scored 81 times over that spell.
De Bruyne tried to thread a pass through for Lukaku after winning the ball in the centre of the pitch. The striker was on his bike, but the pass from the Man City man was too strong.
COURTOIS SAVE! That might have been going wide, with Moutinho shooting from about 20 yards out, but Courtois takes no chances and makes the diving save to deny him.
This match started very promisingly, but in the last five minutes or so the pace has dropped and it has become more of a midfield battle. Not many goalscoring opportunities.
After a strong start by Belgium, Portugal are now settling into the game. They are passing the ball around the centre of midfield as the home side sit back and absorb the pressure.
PENALTY CLAIM! Half-hearted claims for a spot kick from the Portugal players as Mario is barged over by Mertens as he challenged for the ball. But the tackle was judged to be fair.
There is speculation over Courtois' future this summer. The Chelsea goalkeeper has reportedly rejected a new contract and is attracting attention from Liverpool and Real Madrid.
Portugal won the European Championships two years ago by being very hard to beat and Santos will be looking to set up his team in this way again at the World Cup this summer.
Martinez also created controversy with his initial squad selection, with Nainggolan left out. Fans started a petition to get the Roma midfielder reinstated. Many think he should be included.
Both teams have created controversy in recent weeks by leaving out big name players from their squads. Portugal, for instance, have left out Gomes and Semedo. They won't be going to Russia.
This has been a very competitive game so far. There have been a few flying tackles and both sets of players are going at it early on. You'd never guess there's a World Cup round the corner.
There's a lot of pressure on Martinez. The former Everton and Wigan boss is charged with making the most of this golden generation for Belgium. They are expected to challenge in Russia.
There's so much quality throughout this Belgium team, but you have to look at De Bruyne and Hazard as their most important players. If they can hit top form, Belgium will be a force.
There's no Ronaldo for Portugal this evening. The Real Madrid forward has been given an extra week off, which is fair enough given that his season only ended a week ago.
Much will be expected of Lukaku in Russia this summer. The Manchester United striker has enjoyed a good season and has scored in each of his last six games for Belgium.
Belgium will come into this World Cup in very good form. They haven't lost an international match since 2016, when they lost to Spain. They are unbeaten in their lat 16.
It's been a very lively start to this match. Both sides are looking to attack at the earliest opportunity. For a friendly game, the pace and tempo of the contest has been very high.
Of course, Portugal head into this World Cup as the European champions after winning the Euros two years ago. But their manager Santos insists they can't win in Russia this summer.
This is the last chance for these Belgium players to impress Martinez before he finalises his squad for the World Cup. So we should see a motivated display from the home team.
EARLY CHANCE! That was almost an opening goal for the home side within seconds of the kick off. Mertens sent a low cross into the box, but Lukaku couldn't quite get on the end of it.
