Chelsea scored one goal but progressed to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup thanks to a 3-2 victory over Frank Lampard's Derby County which featured two own-goals in a chaotic first half at Stamford Bridge.
Twice the home side took the lead via own-goals, one each for centre-back pairing Fikayo Tomori (on-loan from Chelsea) and Richard Keogh, only to be pegged back by a plucky Rams side.
The first Derby equaliser came from Chelsea fan Jack Marriott before another Chelsea loanee, Mason Mount, squared the ball for Martyn Waghorn to tap in.

Chelsea - who made eight changes for the game but still fielded 11 internationals - were ahead again before the break, but it wasn't without controversy. Scott Carson couldn't keep out Cesc Fabregas' low-effort, but the visitors felt that Alvaro Morata was blocking his view in an offside position, and that Tom Lawrence was fouled in the build-up to the goal.
The second-half may not have lived up to the thrilling first-period, but it was not without drama as Keogh had a great chance to level before substitute David Nugent hit the post with minutes to go, as Fabregas' strike proved enough to seal five-time winners Chelsea's place in the last eight of the competition.

TALKING POINT

Lady Luck fails to shine on returning Lampard's brave and battling side. The 40-year-old may have made his own fortune here as a player, but he certainly didn't have much on his return as a manager. Two own-goals and a contentious Chelsea third gave his side a mountain to climb, but this young, resilient Derby team continued to create the better opportunities and were agonisingly close to bringing the tie all the way to penalties. If this was an audition for Lampard as a future manager at Stamford Bridge, then he can't have done his chances any harm.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Tom Huddlestone (Derby) Huddlestone plied his trade in the Premier League for many years, and on the basis of this performance the 31-year-old could still prove valuable for one of the smaller clubs in the division. His range of passing was very impressive and he worked tirelessly to win the ball back for his team.

PLAYER RATINGS

Chelsea: Caballero 6, Zappacosta 7, Cahill 5, Christensen 5, Emerson 6, Kante 6, Fabregas 7, Kovacic 6, Loftus-Cheek 8, Morata 5, Willian 7. Subs: Azpiliecueta 5, Pedro 5, Luiz 5.
Derby: Carson 6, Bogle 6, Keogh 5, Tomori 5, Malone 6, Huddlestone 8, Mount 7, Wilson 7, Waghorn 6, Marriott 7. Subs: Forsyth 5, Bennett 5, Nugent 6.

KEY MOMENTS

5' - OWN-GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Derby: Well, would you believe it? It's a horrible own-goal by Tomori who nets for his parent club! Zappacosta whips a nothing cross in, the young centre-back slices his clearance and unfortunately it ends up in the back of his own net.
9' - GOAL! Chelsea 1-1 Derby: The visitors are level! It's a comedy of errors by Cahill who mis-places a pass in midfield and then falls over. Huddlestone carves open the defence with a lovely ball through to Marriott, who still has plenty to do. But he keeps his nerve, slotting the ball past Caballero with a low shot.

21' - OWN-GOAL! Chelsea 2-1 Derby: Dear, oh dear! For the second time tonight Derby concede an own-goal - this time Keogh sticks it in his own net. Again, Zappacosta's cross should be simple enough to deal with, but the ball bounces off his knee and ends up wrong-footing Carson.
27' - GOAL! Chelsea 2-2 Derby: They have only gone and equalised again! It's another huge contribution from a Chelsea loanee, but this time it's at the right end, as Mount finds space on the left and his sumptuous cross leaves Waghorn with a simple tap-in at the far post.
41' - GOAL! Chelsea 3-2 Derby: For the third time Chelsea lead this evening, but Derby aren't happy. Loftus-Cheek gets drills a cross into the box, it falls to Zappacosta and then Fabregas who rifles a shot from inside the box which Carson gets a hand to but can't keep out. The visitors feel that Morata was standing in an offside position and blocking the goalkeeper's view, but the referee ignores their protests.
89' - NUGENT HITS THE POST! Oh so, so close for Derby! Marriott slips through Nugent and his shot from an acute angle beats Caballero but cannons off the post and bounces back to into the safe arms of the Chelsea goalkeeper.
