A brace from Scott Fraser - one deflected - and a stunner from Jake Hesketh made the difference as League One Burton Albion shocked near neighbours Nottingham Forest 3-2 of the Championship to take their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Fraser's 52nd-minute effort from the edge of the area took a major touch from Saidy Janko which deceived goalkeeper Luke Steele, and he followed that up less than ten minutes later with some clever footwork that freed him up to slide the ball into the net.
Substitute Lewis Grabban got one back for Forest, but Hesketh restored the two-goal advantage with eight minutes to go courtesy of a well-taken volley.
Teenager Arvin Appiah made added time nervy for Burton, with a smartly-taken goal in the final seconds.
Liam Boyce had the chance in the first half to put the hosts ahead after Liam Bridcutt upended Jamie Allen in the box, but he sent his penalty high over the bar.

TALKING POINT

How will Forest respond to this? Aitor Karanka said he thought it would be a tough game - and although Burton played well, they took advantage of plenty of errors riddling the Forest backline. They're lurking around the play-off zone - can they use this as impetus?

MAN OF THE MATCH

Dimitar Evtimov (Burton). Facing his former club, the goalkeeper was alert and not cowed by the occasion, giving the rest of the team confidence to push up and challenge the Forest defence.

PLAYER RATINGS

KEY MOMENTS

31' PENALTY! Bridcutt is livid but this is pretty clear-cut. Hesketh races down the right, squares the ball, and Allen is upended by the Forest defender.
32' MISS! Boyce - who's been so good so far this evening - smashes the ball over the bar and into the Forest fans.
52' GOAL! Allen drives forward, and knocks it left to Scott Fraser, who shoots from the edge of the box and it deflects into the back of the net!
64' GOAL! And there it is, a second for Burton, and a definite second for Fraser, whose shot isn't deflected this time. Chaotic defending from Forest, leaving Fraser so much space to steal in on the left side of the box.
70' GOAL! Grabban has got one back for Forest! On the counter, with Dias doing the leg work, and the substitute gets past the offside trap to slide the ball home. Game on!
82' GOAL! Lovely stuff! A volley from Hesketh after Boyce does the footwork and Fraser puts in the cross from the left. The two-goal advantage restored.
90'+1 GOAL! It's the young substitute Appiah, dashing down the right and following up his original saved effort!

KEY STATISTICS

This is the first time Burton have ever been beyond the third round of the League Cup.
Lewis Grabban has been directly involved in 10 goals (9 goals, 1 assist) in his last 10 games in all competitions for Forest.
