And that is that, for a fortnight at least.
Spurs take a 1-0 lead going into the return leg at Stamford Bridge thanks to Harry Kane's penalty - via a double VAR decision.
Job half done, as they say.
Big tackle from Rose on Kante with the Chelsea midfielder advancing at speed. One minute left for Chelsea to nick a goal.
- OffChristian EriksenTottenham Hotspur
- OnFernando LlorenteTottenham Hotspur
On comes Llorente as Spurs look to run down the clock. Off goes Eriksen.
There will be THREE minutes added on.
- OffHarry WinksTottenham Hotspur
- OnOliver SkippTottenham Hotspur
Spurs fans groan, but they can't complain. Kane plays a lovely through ball for Lamela as the hosts look to break, but in a race with Alonso he has his arms all over the Chelsea defender and concedes the foul.
Late appearance for Skipp.
CHANCES! Chelsea pile on the pressure but Spurs survive. Hazard works himself half a yard and his cross is spilled by Gazzaniga, but Sanchez is there to make a vital clearance. The ball then falls to Alonso but his effort is blocked.
Hazard clearly annoyed. He dances past Kane before trying a few step-overs and getting dispossessed, leading to ironic cheers from the Spurs fans. Looked like Hazard gestured back at the fans (nothing offensive) in an attempt to quieten the crowd.
- Yellow cardErik LamelaTottenham Hotspur
Not been on long and Lamela is booked for catching Hazard, who has been frustrated - and fouled - all evening. Can he pick out a team-mate with a cross?
- OffCallum Hudson-OdoiChelsea
- OnOlivier GiroudChelsea
Last throw of the dice for Chelsea with Giroud on for Hudson-Odoi.
- OffHeung-Min SonTottenham Hotspur
- OnErik LamelaTottenham Hotspur
Meanwhile, on comes Lamela for Son.
A replay of that penalty shout and you can see Alderweireld with his arm by his side as it strikes. No need for VAR.
- OffRoss BarkleyChelsea
- OnMateo KovacicChelsea
Second sub for Chelsea as Kovacic comes on for Barkley.
Cries of handball from Hazard and the Chelsea fans after he flicks the ball towards Alderweireld, but the referee is having none of it.
And breathe, Spurs fans.
Corner for Chelsea but it doesn't beat the first man. 20 minutes to go, plus stoppage time, and the second leg of course.
Spurs just enjoying more of the ball now. The break thanks to Kane has done them some good, and it has taken the sting out of Chelsea's advances. MBE for services to Spurs.
Kane goes down and is receiving some treatment. Not a sight Spurs fans want to see with Man Utd on the weekend... but it's also giving Pochettino the chance to dish out instructions to Alli and Son - so who knows. Kane is up and fine to continue.
And Sarri's first sub sees Pedro come on for Willian.
- Yellow cardDavinson SánchezTottenham Hotspur
Sanchez stops Hazard from turning him and goes in the book for his sins.
WHAT A CHANCE! Chelsea have a corner and Barkley flicks it on to Christensen at the back post, but he cannot direct his attempt on target!
Sustained period of pressure from Chelsea. Going up the gears but Spurs defending deep.
SAVE! Hazard engineers himself a yard of space before striking low, and although it's a powerful effort, it's too close to Gazzaniga.
ANOTHER SAVE! Moments later Kante tries his luck from 20 yards out and it's bending into the near corner, and forces Gazzaniga to make a decent stop.
GREAT SAVE! Kane never hesitates to shoot... and it's a wicked strike from distance which moves in the air and forces Kepa to bat it away for a corner.
That comes to nothing for the hosts.
Chelsea have a corner but Gazzaniga can be heard calling for it before claiming the cross.
A clever free-kick move doesn't quite come off for Chelsea, with Hudson-Odoi flagged for offside after Willian's ball over the top.
He had to get this right! Rudiger flies in to a tackle on Alli to concede the corner.
Spurs take it short and it's eventually with Eriksen, who stings the gloves of Kepa with an attempt from 25 yards out.
- 2nd Half
Right then. So now it's the second half of the first leg of the first semi-final.
Have to see more from Chelsea, and Hazard in particular. No half-time changes.
London's Metropolitan Poilce tweeted this out a short while ago...
- End of 1st Half
CLOSE! A Hudson-Odoi cross almost catches out Gazzaniga, who is forced to tip it onto the bar before Alderweireld clears... Wow - so close.
And that's half-time. A half dominated by one incident, and no doubt Twitter will be ablaze with all sorts of opinions.
Two VAR minutes added on.
Here you go, if you're in the UK...
OFF THE POST! Kante is an attacking maestro! He makes a brilliant near-post run and meets Alonso's low cross before seeing his effort deflect onto the outside of the post.
Spurs look happy to sit back after taking the lead. Keep it like this, pounce with a second and then 2-0 would be a good evening's work for the hosts.
Have carried on talking about that VAR incident as little has happened since. Chelsea can't find a way through but are on top.
Looked for an official tweet but why not take this from @aka_willbodie - he makes a decent point that means people will still be talking about this incident after the match. Leaning over the line?
Also - unless the camera is always dead in line with the last defender, will we ever know for absolute certain when it is as tight as that call?
And also 20 up!
- Yellow cardHarry WinksTottenham Hotspur
Winks goes in late on Hazard and picks up a needless booking.
Six in a row.
Incidentally, it took about 90 seconds from the moment the flag was raised to the moment the referee pointed to the spot.
Some will grumble, but if it's not offside, and it is a penalty - then how can anyone complain.
GOAL! Kane scores from the spot!
Big ol' VAR moment right there, and the Spurs striker converts - it's not quite in the corner but Kepa does not dive to his right and Spurs have the lead.
- Yellow cardKepa ArrizabalagaChelsea
Kepa gets booked for the foul too... You have to say - VAR has done it's job there.
OFFSIDE... OR IS IT?! Big moment for Michael Oliver and his VAR friends. Kane is flagged for offside before going down under a foul from Kepa inside the area.
We can see the offside lines checking to see if Kane is off.. it's very, very tight....
They're still reviewing the incident.... now looking at Kepa's foul on Kane... and it's a PENALTY TO SPURS!
Eriksen carries the ball out wide before lofting a cross in for Kane, but Alonso tracks him back and heads it clear.
Regret bigging this game up so much now - it has gone rather flat. Spurs struggling to make in-roads since their bright start.
Lovely flow to this game so far, very open. Alonso getting jeers for the home fans, mind, can't think why.
Chelsea just turning the screw somewhat and enjoying the majority of possession. Spurs look happy to counter at the moment.
Is that Messi or Kante?! The Chelsea midfielder weaves his way through Spurs' own midfield and his pass forces Alderweireld to make a sliding interception. Not quite Messi, after all.
Very enjoyable starter for 10. End to end. Barkley sends a near-post header over from a Willian corner. Close, but not quite.
SAVE! Great start to the game. A cross-field ball is controlled by Hudson-Odoi and he advances towards goal at an angle before forcing Gazzaniga to make a simple stop.
We have VAR by the way, and the powers that be deemed the tackle to be fine.
SAVE! What a goal this would have been. Kane goes for the acrobatics with the cross a little behind him, and his overhead kick forces a save from Kepa.
Hmm.... It's a foot-race between Son and Christensen towards the Chelsea goal. It's a coming together of sorts before the Chelsea defender heads the ball on the ground. Spurs fans call for a foul on Son, but nothing given.
Decent start from Spurs who will of course be looking to make 'home' advantage count. What a treat that would be if they make the final - a trip to Wembley!
- 1st Half
And away we go. Tough one to call this - going for a 3-1 Spurs win, not like I have to predict at all, but y'know, why not.
Right then. Not long to go - teams are out at Wembley for what will be the first half of the first leg of the first semi-final. Man City host Burton in the other semi-final tomorrow.
Goodbye my Son?
Not yet. The South Korean joins the national side for some Asian Cup action after the weekend, which means he is available to face Man Utd before jetting off!
The stage is yours, Callum!
As would be expected, Eriksen starts this evening for Spurs, but are contract talks a-stumbling? That and more in today's Paper Round.
No Fabregas in the squad tonight - we thought he waved farewell to English football ahead of a move to Monaco, but that looks to be on hold... for now.
Regardless, here's a video debating where he places in the Premier League pantheon.
Well this is a nice Tuesday treat. After resting plenty in the FA Cup on the weekend, both sides name strong XIs for the clash at Wembley.
For Spurs, Gazzaniga continues to start in goal ahead of Lloris, having done so in each League Cup match so far this season.
Meanwhile, Sarri starts Hudson-Odoi - very much a we-want-you-to-stay move from the Chelsea boss amid interest in the winger from Bayern Munich.
Chelsea: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, Alonso, Jorginho, Kante, Barkley, Willian, Hazard, Hudson-Odoi
Subs: Caballero, Zappacosta, Ampadu, Luiz, Kovacic, Pedro, Giroud
Tottenham: Gazzaniga, Trippier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Rose, Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Alli, Son, Kane
Subs: Lloris, Davies, Foyth, Walker-Peters, Skipp, Lamela, Llorente
Right then. League Cup. Semi-final. First leg. Tottenham. Chelsea. Football.
