That's the most Pompey have shown in quite some time. They just haven't been at the races in this second period.
Steele fails to gather a right-wing corner and gets away with one. The visitors load another one into the box and the keeper redeems himself with a super save to claw out Raggett's header.
Mac Allister threatens a fifth with a 25-yard free kick that flashes into the side netting.
BRIGHTON CHANGE: Gwargis on for Gross.
Pompey are in damage limitation mode now. Brighton have a taste for this and want more goals.

CLOSE! Almost four as Burn's header across the six-yard box is acrobatically nodded away by Naylor. Stunning defending.
That was also Bernardo's first goal for Brighton.

It's looking like it's going to be a positive 150th League Cup outing for Brighton. Can Pompey recover and throw a spanner in the works?

GOAL! Brighton win the ball high up the field. Mac Allister makes a late dash into the box to thump a header home from Jahanbakhsh's cross.

VIDEO: The Seagulls go close!
Curtis wins a header defending a corner just outside his own area. He charges forward and has men in support. He uses them as decoy in the end and hits a 25-yard effort that deflects wide. That was ultimately disappointing after a break of real promise there for the League One outfit.
Gross slaps his hands in frustration as stabs Bernardo's delightful cross wide of the far post.

Pompey have the ball in the back of the net - but it's ruled out for offside. It's nodded back across goal and bundled in from close range, but the visitors' joy is all too short-lived.
CLOSE! A teasing left-wing free kick flicks off a couple of bodies, including Burn before flashing narrowly wide of the defender's own goal.
Pompey's only threat has come from a couple of set pieces. The most recent sees Raggett glance a header wide at the back stick.
Brighton are well on top so far. The PL side have opened the visitors up on a couple of occasions, but aside from the Bernardo miss, they've have trouble providing the killer pass.
Shop window?
A super move involving a delightful dummy opens Portsmouth up. Gyokeres has a clear strike at goal, but sees his shot well parried. The rebound drops for Bernardo but the Brazilian inexplicably hammers over the top.
It's worth noting that Pompey have already played three matches this term. They are unbeaten having clocked up positive results in cup competitions before being held to a goalless draw by Shrewsbury Town in League One.
Jahanbakhsh is quick down the right. He wastes little time whipping in a cross that is overcooked and clips the top of the bar. Almost a sensational start for the hosts.
KICK OFF! Brighton get the tie up and running.

Pompey make three changes from the side that drew with Shrewsbury. Cameron Pring, James Bolton and Ryan Williams all come in.
More from Potter on new signing, Joel Veltman. The ex-Ajax man makes his debut tonight: “I’m really happy with Joel and I can see his quality every day. He contributes to the team meetings and he is a good character and personality. He hadn’t been with us for long before he went away with the Dutch national team so we probably just need to be a little bit more patient, and make sure that when he plays the conditions are right to show what he is about.”
Graham Potter has completely shuffled his pack from the PL loss to Chelsea last time out. The Seagulls boss talked about giving fringe players a chance ahead of the tie: “We don’t see it as a distraction, we see it as an opportunity and a positive. We want to win the game and the team we put out will be a strong one.”
Pompey boss, Kenny Jackett on a potential cup upset and run in the competition: “That would be great. It will be great, away from home, we are looking forward to the game on its own because it is a real opportunity for us. Also as well, early season, see if we can build up momentum with results and some performances.”
Worth a quick flick through?
