What a day for Grealish. First, he signed a new five-year contract to stay at Aston Villa, then he scored the goal that effectively sent his side into the next round of the Carabao Cup. He was the best player on the pitch, although Burton Albion certainly gave the Premier League side a bit of a scare through that early opener!

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Burton 1-3 Aston Villa
- GoalKeinan DavisAston Villa
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Burton Albion 1 Aston Villa 3 (92 mins - Keinan Davis). And that will be that for Aston Villa. Davis beats the offside trap and shows good composure to find the far corner of the net with a guided finish from a relatively tight angle. Villa will be in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Who's he talking about? [Winking face emoji]
There will be four minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
Grealish has almost certainly scored the winner here for Aston Villa, but he has also been the best player on the pitch in general by some distance. What a performance this has been.
- GoalJack GrealishAston Villa
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Burton Albion 1 Aston Villa 2 (88 mins - Jack Grealish). Fitting. On the day that Grealish signed a new contract to stay at Aston Villa, he has scored a late winner to all but send his team into the next round of the Carabao Cup. Lansbury found Grealish just inside the box from the corner and he fired home a volley.
Grealish plays a lovely one-two with Davis to get to the byline, but Burton Albion had enough bodies back to ensure that the Aston Villa captain didn't get any further.
Villa are applying the pressure in the final minutes of this match. They are camped on the edge of the Burton Albion box with the League One side struggling to get out.
JOTA... just wide! Just for a moment there it looked like Aston Villa had taken the lead, but Jota's left-footed shot from about 25 yards out flashes just wide of the post. Not far away at all.
Aston Villa finished the first half strongly, equalising through Watkins. And the debutant probably should have scored a second before the break, striking the top of the crossbar.
It should be kept in mind that this is Aston Villa's first competitive game of the season and you can see that in some of the rustiness in their play. Far from at their sharpest.
- OffAnwar El GhaziAston Villa
- OnJotaAston Villa
A third and final change for Aston Villa with Jota coming on for the away side.
The rain is now pouring down at the Pirelli Stadium. Is there a winner left in the final 10 minutes of this Carabao Cup second round tie or are we destined for a penalty shootout?
It's all Aston Villa at the moment. The Premier League side have had 78% of possession in this second half, but Burton Albion haven't been troubled too much in defence. Holding firm.
Ramsey can be very pleased with his performance on his Aston Villa debut. The youngster faded after a very impressive first half, but he's a player with a bright future ahead of him.
- OffJacob RamseyAston Villa
- OnDouglas LuizAston Villa
... and the second change from Aston Villa sees Luiz come on for the impressive Ramsey.
- OffOllie WatkinsAston Villa
- OnKeinan DavisAston Villa
A double change for Villa coming up here. Davis comes on for Watkins...
Ramsey is the next player to be shown a yellow card for a late tackle.
It looks like Smith might be about to make his first change of the evening with Luiz stripped and ready to come on down on the touchline. Will he make the difference for Villa?
Watkins denied... he was offside! Elmohamady played a wonderful cross into the box, Watkins had drifted away from his marker, but his header was straight at Sharman Lowe. The flag was up anyway.
Is there a winner left in the final 20 minutes for either side? Aston Villa are controlling possession, but they have yet to create a truly clear-cut opportunity in this second half.
Burton Albion make their second and third changes of the evening.
Block to deny Grealish! Brayford needed to get his body in front of that one, with the Aston Villa captain surging towards the Burton Albion goal, but the League One outfit survive.
- Yellow cardLucas AkinsBurton Albion
First yellow card of the evening and it goes to Akins for a foul on Grealish.
That last opportunity shows Aston Villa cannot get complacent. They might be on top, but Burton Albion have scored once and they could score a second. They have the quality.
What a run! Akins bursts through the Aston Villa midfielder, receives the return pass from a one-two and gets the shot away from inside the box, but Hause makes the block to deny him.
There is a sense that Aston Villa are really starting to turn the screw on Burton Albion. They are the ones controlling things and you just get the feeling one of these chances will fall nicely to Watkins or Grealish.
Cross into the middle! The delivery into the six yard box from Elmohamady was a good one, but Watkins just couldn't stretch far enough to get on the end of it and Burton clear.
The only way Burton Albion can stop Grealish at the moment is by fouling him. The Aston Villa midfielder gets kicked up and down the pitch so frequently. Referees need to protect him.
Grealish has been fantastic tonight. Everything he has done has oozed quality and has underlined why it is such good news for Aston Villa that they have signed him to a new contract.
Grealish across the face! The Aston Villa captain takes a magnificent touch to control a high ball over the top, he then got an early cross into the middle, but none of his teammates gambled!
Grealish, Ramsey and Watkins have all impressed for Aston Villa higher up the pitch, but the Premier League side have looked pretty vulnerable at the back. Mings has been poor.
Hemmings was in behind! That was a chance for Burton Albion to take the lead for a second time, with Hemmings released in behind. But the striker pulled his shot wide from a tight angle.
Burton Albion have done well to hold their own, but there was a sense towards the end of the first half that the quality of their Premier League opponents was starting to shine through.
Aston Villa really should have taken the lead at the end of the first half, with Grealish putting a chance on a plate for Watkins. The new striker will surely have more opportunities.
No changes made by either manager at the half time break. Aston Villa grew into the match after a terrible start. Can they pick up where they left off at the end of the first half?

- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Burton Albion 1-1 Aston Villa. It was an incredible start from the League One side, taking the lead after two minutes, but Villa have found their footing in this tie with that Watkins goal.
Still playing at the Pirelli Stadium. The officials haven't made clear just how much stoppage time will be played...
Off the bar! It's absolutely brilliant play from Grealish to create the opportunity, beating two men at the byline to play the pass into the middle for Watkins, but the new man strikes the crossbar!
Smith will be relieved that his side has been able to find an equaliser before the half time interval. Aston Villa have actually played pretty well since the opening two minutes when they fell behind.
Just wide! A chance for Burton Albion with the pass played to Edwards on the edge of the Villa box, but he couldn't get enough curl on his effort and Nyland watches it flash wide of the post.
It was Watkins who got the goal, but the chance was created by Grealish. The pass from the Villa captain was so good that Taylor momentarily lost the ball until it was right in front of him.
- GoalOllie WatkinsAston Villa
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Burton Albion 1 Aston Villa 1 (40 mins - Ollie Watkins). Aston Villa are back on level terms! Grealish played a clever little pass to release Taylor into the box, the left back cut it back for Watkins and the new signing finished into the back of the Burton Albion net from only a matter of yards out.
Villa have created some chances, they have seen plenty of the ball, but there hasn't been the sense in this first half that they are battering down the door for the equaliser.
It's a real shame there are no supporters inside the Pirelli Stadium for this one. The place would have been bouncing, with Burton Albion getting the better of a Premier League side.
Fired wide! El Ghazi takes a snap shot from the edge of the box, but his volley bounces wide of the target. In fairness, that was always going to be difficult for the Aston Villa attacker.
Burton on the break! The home side had players forward on the rapid counter attack, but Mings did well to stick with Hemmings and the tackle is made to prevent anything coming of it.
Watkins has taken up some good positions in this first half, but it's quite clear that his Aston Villa teammates are still working out how to play with him. Not used to his movement yet.
Aston Villa are certainly dominating the possession and have the territorial advantage, but Burton Albion are holding their own at the back. Chances have been few and far between.
- OffMichael BostwickBurton Albion
- OnOwen John GallacherBurton Albion
Burton Albion are forced into a change with Bostwick coming off injured after only 30 minutes.
Bostwick down! This could be a concern for Burton Albion. Bostwick has hit the ground and seems to have picked up a calf injury. Burton are already short at the back for options.
Clash of heads! Daniel and Hause end up clashing going for the same ball, but both players seem to be fine and are back on their feet. Freekick goes the way of Aston Villa.
The chances are starting to come for Aston Villa. They just need to show more composure in front of goal. Ramsey in particular has been a little manic with the opportunities.
Ramsey takes it on! El Ghazi gets to the byline and cuts it back for the youngster, Ramsey takes the shot himself rather than passing to Watkins, but his shot is well wide.
Ramsey has been lively in the opening 20 minutes of this match. The youngster isn't afraid to get on the ball and make himself available. He just needs more of a final product.
Grealish is starting to take a grip of this game for Aston Villa. The midfielder, who signed a new contract with the club today, has been given something of a free role by Smith tonight.
Over the bar! Grealish plays the cross into the middle, Aston Villa had two players in there, Watkins was the better positioned of the two, but it was Ramsey who headed over the bar!
Aston Villa have recovered somewhat since conceding the opening goal in the first few minutes, but Burton Albion will be quite pleased with how few chances have been created by the visitors.
Glanced wide! El Ghazi takes the freekick from the left side, Al-Muhamadi gets on the end of it, but the Aston Villa full back can only send his header wide when he should have hit the target.
That was a poor challenge. It was a lovely touch from Grealish to pluck a high ball out of the sky, but in steaming came the Burton Albion player who gave away the freekick clumsily.
This was the goal!
There's no doubt Watkins is an impressive signing for Aston Villa. He should give them added cutting edge in front of goal, but Smith still has to find a system that works for him.
Burton Albion are a club with a strong tradition of doing well in the cups. Remember that victory over Manchester United over Old Trafford? That paid for their new stadium!
Nyland plays the ball straight out of play. The Norwegian's position as Aston Villa's goalkeeper is under threat with the club expected to complete a deal for Arsenal's Martinez soon.
The reaction from Aston Villa has been strong. They are now on the front foot as they attempt to find the equaliser to get themselves back on level terms. Got caught cold at the start.
Ramsey on the end of it! Aston Villa find some forward momentum with Watkins playing the pass to the back post, but the debutant couldn't stretch far enough to make a connection.
Well, it's fair to say that's a sluggish start to the season from Aston Villa. They allowed Edwards into the penalty box far too easily, but there was nothing they could do about the finish.
- GoalColin DanielBurton Albion
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Burton Albion 1 (2 mins - Colin Daniel) Aston Villa 0. What a dream start for the home side! Edwards played the pass across the penalty box from the right side and Daniel arrived on the scene to lash home a finish. Burton Albion have the lead in this cup tie within the first two minutes!
- 1st Half
The match is under way! It's Burton Albion against Aston Villa in the second round of the Carabao Cup!
Okay, here we go. We are just moments away from kick in this Carabao Cup tie at the Pirelli Stadium.
It's a shame supporters aren't allowed in the Pirelli Stadium this evening. What an atmosphere it would have been.
A lot of excited Aston Villa fans will be watching this for Watkins. Is he the striker their team needs?
This is Aston Villa's first match of the season after sitting out the weekend's Premier League fixtures. On the other hand, this is Burton's fourth game of the season. Will that be a factor?
Of course, today's big news for Aston Villa was Grealish signing a new contract to stay with the club. The midfielder had been linked with a move away, so it's a big deal that they will have him for another season at least.
Team sheet time!
I'm Graham Ruthven and you can catch me on Twitter ahead of the match to let me know your thoughts. How big an impact will Watkins make at Villa? Can Burton cause an upset? Tweet me!
Watkins starts! It's a strong side from Smith for this one and the biggest headline is that Watkins starts for Aston Villa. Can the £33 million man make a good impression for his new club?
